to me it makes sense to go

sugar

the hot water disolves the sugar and tea

Last, last, last, a thousand times last.

How are you supposed to get the taste of the tea when it's all mixed in with the milk first? I mean I guess if you prefer the milk in first then go ahead, but I suppose this all depends how you like your tea and also which tea you drink.

Overall the process of making a cup of tea for me takes about roughly five minutes (after the kettle has boiled of course).

1. Boiling water into the cup with the tea bag
2. Two minutes while the magic works
3. Strain the teabag and take it out, as dry as possible
4. About a minute for the tea to stand
5. Milk goes in and stir (I usually judge the amount by the colour)
6. Drink!

(Note: I don't have sugar)

I never put in milk. I only put in sugar if it is unflavored green tea. Even then, just a teaspoon.

I put mine in first, I cannot bare the thought of it going in last, it makes the tea taste awful.
I get slated for this from fellow tea lovers and that I'm "doing it wrong"

Does it really matter?

I think it would depend on the kind of tea you're making and how strong you like it..

I prefer to put it in after, but I also like to have loose leaf tea, so that I take the leaves out before I put the milk in.

As for tea bags, if the bag in in the mug, after; if the bag is in the pot, it doesn't matter.

The 'proper' English way to pour tea is to put the milk in and then the tea.
Although I much prefer being able to get the colour right by adding more or less milk at the end; so I always put milk in last.
Having said this I only make tea for others so I couldn't comment on the taste!

For one tea should ideally be made in a teapot first. If so, you put the milk in then add the tea from the pot.
If you're making it in a cup then my view is that you should brew the tea then remove the teabag and add milk.
Anyone who leaves the teabag in whilst drinking is the antichrist.

Gee, man, I knew this hot button topic would end in a flame war. Where's a nice safe topic, like Palestine, or 360 Vs. PS3? :)
