Usually if I'm at home making it for myself whack the teabag and milk in the cup whilst the kettles boiling, then drink it with the teabag in the cup.
But that's just because it makes for the shortest amount of time in the kitchen away from what I want to be doing, as I can grab whatever food whilst the kettles boiling and just fill the cup up on the way out.

Doesn't differ much if I'm making it for other people, just the way I stir and brew it instead of leaving it in the cup. Needs to be made with love.

A watery tea is the worst thing in the world, and will make me hate you the whole time I'm drinking it if I get handed one.

I always put the milk in last. Very occasionally I put in the milk before taking out the teabag if I'm in a hurry but that's it. As someone said on the last page, cold milk 1st makes the water cooler so it doesn't brew properly and the sugar doesn't dissolve as well and it can scald the milk and makes it taste different. Doesn't make a huge amount of difference but I prefer the milk last way.

If you're using a pot, it makes no difference.

If you're using a bag, you need to put the water in first, let it brew, and then add milk after you've taken the bag out.

Adding the milk first cools it off too much and the tea will not extract properly.

Teabag, boiling water, leave for 5 minutes so the tea can strengthen significantly, add milk once the water is opaque, press air out of the teabag so it sinks, and drink.

Prepare for ridiculously oversimplified science.

If you add milk first is impedes how much the tea can spread it's concentration through the water, and milk isn't good at binding with the tea.

I don't tend to use sugar, prefer without, the rare times I drink coffee, I need sugar to stomach it. Usually 3 teaspoons.

Last; though I normally don't drink milk-tea.

I suppose the same goes for coffee though (which, being a Norwegian, I drink), and in coffee I always put the milk in last.

The forum is quiet here... ^_^

OT: Sugar and milk first; then the water. If the water goes in first, I always end up pouring too much into the cup.

Black, teabag first, stir, take it out, put sugar in, stir again, drink. Milk is for the mainstream! :p
Black teabag first, pretend to add water but don't, put sugar in, stir again, choke whilst trying to drink. Water, you say? No, water is for the mainstream; you have to be hardcore to have tea without water! ^_^

Oh yeah, when he wasn't writing about totalitarianism he was all about the tea and other exciting things such as the beauty of the toad and the fact that the quality of English murders have really declined.

I usually put the milk in last - but occasionally I put it in first.

Oh, and also, this is extremely relevant and irrelevant at the same time:

Teabag out, milk in, and if I'm going to smoke a cigarette with it, a spoonful of sugar. Stir. Give it a minute. Drink.

I put it in after, I feel the tea blends in better.

My family say I make the best cups of tea they have ever tasted and that's something considering my Mum drinks the stuff all the time.

Milk goes in last, otherwise the tea leaves will not be able to properly infuse into the hot water. Tea should be given a couple of minutes to infuse before milk and sugar is added.
I personally don't like the milk and sugar combination - I prefer condensed milk or similar dairy products as the former combination only serves to hide the flavour of the tea, rather than accompany it.

as long as there's a little in there, i don't care when it goes in. i usually put it in first but it's not 'wrong' to do it the other way round, it's just an alternative way of doing it.

Does the Milk go in first or last?

I put mine in first, I cannot bare the thought of it going in last, it makes the tea taste awful.
I get slated for this from fellow tea lovers and that I'm "doing it wrong"

Does it really matter?
I prefer it later, it gives the tea a chance to mix with the water and add the flavour, milk first is weak and just tastes like strange milk.

I always put in the milk afterwards. I love watching how the milk turns into a cloud in the tea before I start stirring it around.
Add a cinnamon bar and some honey and it's ready for me to drink :-D

As a primitive, savage Ammurican I don't even use milk in tea. Just copious amounts of sugar .

Well, i RARELY use milk, unless its to enhance a particular kind - Most Russian flavors go well with milk, for example. Based on that, it depends on how you like it. Personally i add it after, but you have to use less if you do.

Here, I'll write down my entire Tea-making method for you!

First, boil your kettle [http://www.homeandcook.co.uk/repository/product/breakfast/Kettles/krups_flf3/krups_kettle_flf3.jpg] with enough water [http://www.dfid.gov.uk/r4d/images/articles/water.jpg] to make enough cups of Tea as you need/want at the present time.

Secondly, pour some Milk [http://www3.thestandard.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/milk-bottle.jpg] into the Teacups [http://www.pressies4princesses.co.uk/img/our-gifts/slogan-mugs/love-you-very-much-mug-2.jpg] you plan on using to drink the tea from.

Third; after the kettle [http://www.homeandcook.co.uk/repository/product/breakfast/Kettles/krups_flf3/krups_kettle_flf3.jpg] has boiled, place two/three [http://wedonetwork.co.uk/wedotech/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/teabag.gif] Teabags [http://verdecoffee.com/images/categories/tea-bags.jpg] into your Teapot [http://jamorama.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/teapot6bk1.jpg], and pour all of the hot water into it.

Fourth, leave the Tea to brew in the Teapot [http://jamorama.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/teapot6bk1.jpg] for five minutes or so.

Fifth, return to the Teapot [http://jamorama.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/teapot6bk1.jpg], and pour it's contents into the Teacups [http://www.pressies4princesses.co.uk/img/our-gifts/slogan-mugs/love-you-very-much-mug-2.jpg].

Congratulations! You have now made a cup of Tea! [http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2007/11/26/cupoftea2.jpg]

(Gosh, that took me ages!)

Depending on the tea, the milk may well never go in. The order isn't important really, it's all about the ratio and the combination of flavours. If the tea goes in first, you'll have a high tea:milk ratio because there's less room to put milk in, and vice versa.

Also, Earl Grey and milk is bad. Don't do it.
