I'd like to clue you in on two facts on guns:
-Guns Are Bad
-Guns Kill
These are the two reasons I agree that guns should be prohibited. Most murders caused by people are them wielding guns they legally obtained. Now if we made them ILLEGAL we could stop the guys before they start killing.
In the names of a true non-American: Take The Guns Off The Hands Of Them! Go Gun Control!!
Edit: Now to add other arguments backed with facts
- To whomever said violent crime was higher in Britain I would like to remind you that the rate of firearm deaths among kids under age 15 is almost 12 times higher in the United States than in 25 other industrialized countries combined. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
- To quote Professor Martin Killias "The level of gun ownership world-wide is directly related to murder and suicide rates and specifically to the level of death by gunfire."
- To further show the effect of fire arms, in one year, more children and teens died from gunfire than from cancer, pneumonia, influenza, asthma, and HIV/AIDS combined (I am guessing in America for this Source has given no name however the country this is talking about for the rest is America). (Children's Defense Fund)
- To put things into numbers, every day, more than 80 Americans die from gun violence (Coalition to Stop Gun Violence), between 1979 and 2001, gunfire killed 90,000 children and teens in America (Children's Defense Fund and National Center for Health Statistics), studies show that 1 percent of gun stores sell the weapons traced to 57 percent of gun crimes (ATF Studies), In 1998-99 academic year, 3,523 students were expelled for bringing a firearm to school (U.S. Department of Education, October 2000).
- Furthermore American kids are 16 times more likely to be murdered with a gun, 11 times more likely to commit suicide with a gun, and nine times more likely to die from a firearm accident than children in 25 other industrialized countries combined. (Centers for Disease Control).
- Finally another quote from Professor of Criminology Thomas Gabor "Homicide rates tend to be related to firearm ownership levels. Everything else being equal, a reduction in the percentage of households owning firearms should occasion a drop in the homicide rate"
According to these I am firmly for gun control.
