As long as I can afford it, why not?
I can be stronger, smarter, faster, and stay warm in the winter? Sign me up!

So long as the side effects aren't too horribly debilitating. One doesn't undergo such a drastic change without side effects.

Depends on what animal traits I get. Do I actually get fur? Then fuck no. I'm hairy as it is. I have no problem with ears, eyes and tails though.

Nothing against people who want to stay the way they are, but I can at least admire a fox's work ethic over a human's. They certainly don't get to become couch potatoes.

I mean, if we've stopped evolving because we adapt the environment to suit our needs via tools... why can't we also use the adaptations other animals develop through the rigors of surviving as a species--as tools?

I would, no question. As long as I retain all of fingers. Having a controllable tail would be a plus (a tail would be really useful, like when you first learn you can pick thing sup with your feet you thin "how did I live before this?").

Soooooo.
The serum turns you into Dren?

No I wouldn't,
I will use the Gurren Lagann beastmen as a template
as cool as it would be to be animal/man on the level of Viral
http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/contents/gurren-lagann/images/chara/viral.jpg
you have just as much of a chance of looking like Guame.

another huge problem with this is that furries would no translate well into reality and would be more uncanny valley then attractive for the most part.
Beside getting cat eyes, that would kick ass.

Wasn't there an episode of Batman Beyond like this? But yeah, I would totally take it and built an utopian city with all the other splicers. Hopefully it would be more like Genosha and less like Rapture.

They cease to become traits of survivability and become mere traits of vanity, in which case it'd be interesting to see if the traits even persist for several generations without ecological stress to put them to use. Vestigial traits are common between species for a reason.
Also, I wouldn't care about looking like Guame if it meant surviving the impact of a giga drill breaker just by curling into a ball. I think he's kind of cute, actually, in an angry plush animal sort of way.

First i thought, what about the socioeconomic difficulties then i thought, screw that, I get to be a lizardman.

So yeah, i would use it if the opportunity arose.

EVERYONE STOP! We are forgetting that when we were kids there was one cartoon that dealt with this very subject:

If I could be the Great White, I TOTALLY change my opinion on this!

Furries are bad enough on the internet. I'd keep my regular human abilities and brains thank you.

I'd be tempted to become wolf-man.
1. Wolves are awesome.
2. Increased strength, endurance, senses.
3. Canines (teeth) look awesome.
4. A wolf-tail? Hell yeah!
5. If I had to have an animal's ears, I'd choose wolf-ears.

Obviously the person who uses it is going to face a lot of social problems, discrimination prominently. Honestly, I'd do it. Discrimination be damned I'd probably be smarter than all my co-workers, score one promotion for me.
Unless your boss is discriminatory.

OT: Yeah, I'd probably do it, provided that social problems, supah powahs, and furry-dom are the only side effects.

I would definitely consider doing this , there would have to be a few provisos. First, though

1)it's medically sound i.e. it's not going to kill me

2)I want to be able to still talk

3) walking on two legs is pretty important too I guess

But if those are not a problem then I would be first in line. The idea of not only improving my looks, but also my intelligence is too good to pass up.

In the comments I've noticed a lot of people talking about rapture, the X-Men that would be one of the reasons why I'd want to do this because considering my dim view of humanity I can envisage this starting all kinds of new problems in society so I'd want to be prepared and as I've always said there is no better way to be prepared than playing with my genetics, like a cat with a ball of yarn But then again, maybe I'm wrong and all the quest for world peace is been missing all these years is the addition of tails.

and yes, the porn would be amazing

Would they need to persist for several generations? I was kind of under the impression that such a change would be simply for individual benefit, not to create the second man.

Novelty isn't always 'useless'. Practical? Probably not. Useful? Fun? Definitely. Does every decision have to be some make or break "let's better the human race" sort of thing? Those usually fall through because no one person's situation matches the next anyway.

So yeah, maybe a decision like this is inherently personal and 'frivolous'. But wouldn't it be a dull world without the occasional frivolity? I kind of think that's why furries exist to begin with.
