You just reminded me of the book, "The Last Book In The Universe." There are these people called proovs, basically they're genetically enhanced to be smarter, faster, prettier, and just overall better than a normal. They often discriminate against the people who can't afford the injection for said genetic enhancement.

Damn, I never even saw that one... You have bested me good sir, for obscure genetic-engineering-based cartoons...
It actually wasn't really genetic engineering, IIRC. I'm very vague on this, as I haven't watched that show in 15 years, but I want to say the basic premise is that the dinosaurs got stuck in suspended animation somehow before an alien found them and made anthropomorphic. He tried to use them as a criminal gang kinda thing, then they rebelled and had to fight against the other collection of anthropomorphic dinosaurs the dude had made and stop the other group from causing global warming.

So... We blame... Dinosaurs, not just any Dinosaurs, but anthropomorphic Dinosaurs no less, for Global Warming? Someone call Captain Planet and make this really interesting...

Well, I don't see the morality issue, there's nothing morally wrong with it, but I assume all the people who took it would be smart which would make them easier to like. I'd definitely do it.

P.S. I was too high while reading this to realize it was a hypothetical situation until halfway through the post.

Unlikely senario, but sure I'm game.
This question isn't about the people that do take the serum, but about those who do. Many people will feel uncomfortable with the serum changing their bodies, and therefore won't take them. And that's perfectly understandable and reasonable. But the people who won't take the serum will have a huge disadvanatage towarxs those who do take it. Anyone who wants to have a job will be forced to take the serum, because if they don't the company will just hire someone who does.
In short the creation of such a serum will force people to take it and mess with their bodies. And that is immoral.
I would fight to get the serum banned, but if I failed I would join in. Hope I'll become a cool animal.

Honestly? Hell yes I would.

Besides which, have you been reading David Gemmel recently?

Also, for people saying human evolution has halted, that's not true. Just because the environment has less of a direct effect doesn't mean we're not evolving. Assuming we don't go extinct we'll likely interbreed into a single race, and as is always the case whoever's making the most babies will have the greatest impact on the direction the species goes. We're currently evolving immunities to diseases that affect pre-pubescents, as the ones effected aren't able to pass on their genes.
Personally, I believe something quite different. Species are always evolving in tons of interesting and unique ways, but only a few of the changes aid in survival, and so help to assure the breeding and passing down of said changes.

Because of our adaptability and technological advances, even the weak and more unusual traits continue to live on, and so I believe that humanity has amongst the greatest potential in history to diverge and begin to evolve along numerous and different paths.

I would do it, no question. Superhuman abilities and the ability to become a real-life furry. Screw discrimination and hatred, worst comes to worst I threaten them with my shiny new wolf claws and teeth. In all reality there is no downside in that for me.
This. and i think the descrimination is about them dressing up. if they were part animsl, nobody would descriminate. except people like Westboro.

I want to see that. I can picture it now, and it is awesome.

Wow... That is... I'm not even sure. There's no words to describe that. Though the girl-gamer is the funniest of that lot.

1) Such a serum would undoubtedly be prohibitively expensive, at least initially.

2) "Anthropomorph" and "Furry" are two very different things. The OP is actually referring to the former.

First off, wonderful reference good sir! Work it harder, make it better, do it faster, makes us stronger!

Secondly, I would never even think of using it. I don't want to have things I could achieve realistically with the added bonus of becoming a 'furry.' We don't need this, last time I checked stupidity and lack of strength wasn't a bigger problem than disease.

Usually, these kinds of "moral questions" have some sort of downside.

Become superhuman/smart/strong/whatever and become a badass anthro "fox-human," "wolf-human" or other such "furry" seems like two benefits for a lot of people.

Obviously there would be logistical issues, but if these serums become widespread and inexpensive, clothing manufacturers, shampoo/bodywash makers, dentists, healthcare professionals and other industry standards would eventually have options for these superhumans/whatever. I mean if I was part of the first-wave, it might be an issue, but I don't even mean social discrimination, I mean like, do I need to buy buckets of shampoo to clean my fur? If I require medical attention, will they treat me? How will this company compensate me? Do I have to pay them for the serum? Do they pay ME to test their serum?

Will they make keyboards/mice/controllers/headphones/toothbrushes that I can use? Will the transformation even affect my hands?

There are countless more questions that I have, but generally speaking, it doesn't sound that bad.
