Well believe it or not their is such thing as "smart" teens, but I agree with the children statement fully. Its not as much children themselves its just their baflingly low standards that developers can make horendous crap and still make millions off them. Their should be petitions for stuff like this, Im seriouse.

You were like that, too. It's a phase of either ogling and "drama" (as with the girls), or ogling and explosions (as with the guys). They'll grow out of it, just like you did.
I'm a girl and I would rather see explosions instead of a sappy love story. Does that make me un-girly. O.O

It obviously ain't POP culture if the majority of them dont know who they are.

you have to understand, it's a different generation, we know a whole different set of culture than the guys graduating senior year, when we were in middle school.

man, for a "pop culture geek" you don't understand it very well.

Probably the hype. /:
You know how people say how xbox 360 is better then ps3 even though they probably only played one of them and lie about trying other? Well i guess that relates to hype because they thought it be awesome, agreed among it, and didnt enjoy movie, but still they say it is awesome because they THOUGHT it was going to be awesome and didnt want to be corrected. Because they kinda made a alliance with the movie and protect it. I use to be like this /:

Also my thought process use to go like this
"Man that movie sucked, of my friend seems to like it, well i guess there reasons why it is good and i am crazy, yeah it was good."

Yeah, but they will grow out this.

In time they will learn to recognise characterisation and other tasty good things and yeah.

The movies aren't "bad." It's all subjective in the end anyway.
Ah, those are the words I wanted to hear. Thank you, good sir.

Well a blue car wouldn't be any better. Can I change the adjective instead?
Yes, yes, whatever works for you.
But, ya know, subjective is neither bad nor good. It just kind of, in its own nebulous way, is. And people will still rant that "This is way better because..." or "That sucks because..." Spoken word poetry for example. I love it; I write it; I think it's amazingly intelligible and just a great source for inspiration. However, many academicians believe that Spoken word/Slam poetry is incredibly low brow and takes poetry to a place it doesn't belong or something like that. I completely disagree as I think that it elevates the medium to a new level of existence. But, mine's just an opinion. I can't exactly back it up with anything besides opinions upon opinions of facts. Everything gets filtered before it comes out - it gets colored in my own personal hue - in this case I suppose it would be tinted an aqua-blue hue, but that's neither here nor there.

Frank Herbert stated something to the effect that Hollywood follows these very basic rules: 1. don't take risks, and 2. find what succeeds and copy it. Sort of like penguins crowding at the edge of the ice floe until one falls in; if he's eaten by a killer whale, the rest don't go swimming. This is how the system perpetuates itself, with the help from the populace, most of whom regardless of age has all the intellectual depth of a sidewalk puddle.

These kids you've worked with will grow, gather life experience, and try new things. Heaven forbid, they might actually develop some taste, on their own. I know I didn't give a damn about plot, character, quality music, etc. until I went to college. I'm not too worried about future generations (aside from their driving skills), partially because Hollywood has always let the dross float to the top, but also because OMG WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE IN 2012!!11!1!

Not knowing Quentin Tarantino is a crime. A fucking crime. I have yet to see a good movie with someone. Ever (or at least, since my parents stopped being responsible for bringing me to movies). I always go alone either because I don't feel anyone would enjoy it like I do, and mainly because I like to see them in english, in which they're made, but here people speak french and listen to fucking dubs.

Dubs are an abomination.
It's like saying "Who's Ghandi?"
"Ghandi?"

Bad idea to compare the greatest of films for original ideas and sayings to just action films. Movies like Citizen Kain and Gone with the Wind is something to appreciate but they are not going to appeal to everyone and they are not exactly the most entertaining either. You should compare them to other action films like the Indiana trilogy or Jurassic Park.

And yes, pop culture sucks and it has sucked since the late 70s when disco and punk came in, but I will agree it is worse today. Disney and other scum are selling sex to kids and young teens, they look for attractive teenagers with no talent and rub the media in your face. Also it doesn't pay well anymore to be original and interesting, they keep doing the same thing over and over again and it will pay, even if the acting is rubbish and the story is lame.

I'm 16 and i just saw "The Dead Poets Society" for the first time. I thought it was amazing and inspiring. Very little of my classmates thought it was boring.

The future will be fine. You will be old and crotchety and no one will want to sleep with you soon enough.

So I have to ask you, have you had similar experiences, what do you think about the future of pop culture and how do you feel about the culture of teens today?
Alas poor taste I knew it well.

I thought I would never say this but, kids today suck.
It also feels strange to say this because im only 22.
I feel like I was born at the wrong time, whenever I try to have a conversation about this with people my age, I feel totally alone.
When did explosions, tits, and more explosions begin to pass off as actual cinema?
Even movies like "Commando" had a decent story and good characters.
"Citizen Kane" is said to be "the best movie of all time" and is one of my personal favorites but most people my age have never heard of it.
It makes me sad.

and for me, if you wee that guy again who said "who gives a crap about story and character",
slap him.
slap him across his stupid ignorant head.
and then send him to SING SING! (citizen kane reference)

Dear god I hope they do. I think Michael Bay is an example of what happens if they don't. He actually seems to legitimately believe that his movies are good.
the day Bay movies are generally accepted as good is the date of the apocalypse

But yea, hopefully most of those kids will grow out of it by the end of highschool.

Damn kids/teens with their Twilight and their Harry Potters.

P.S. Damn my generation with our 90's pop music and our boy bands and our Sony Playstations.

Kids should be in test tubes electronically fed information and released when they're 20.

I couldn't agree more about dubs. I don't speak Spanish but Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies. What do I do? Seek out a dub? Fuck no! I turn on subtitles so I can listen to the actors do what they originally did and watch the movie the director originally envisioned.

Luckily for me, as for Quentin Tarantino (who is my favorite director) movies I live in an English-speaking nation so people want to see them in the original English.

I didn't know who Quentin Tarantino was until I was probably 13 though. Mainly because my mom was so overprotective that she wouldn't let me see his movies until my dad essentially told her to get fucked and showed me Pulp Fiction. I immediately realized that he was one of the greatest movie-makers ever to live and watched all his movies within the following month. I was so excited when Inglorious Basterds came out that I shat bricks and me and 4 of my friends saw it on opening day. We're all 15 and 14.

OT:

There are still some decent movies, but they are now fewer and I expect further decline. Music hasn't been consistently good since the 70s, and they've even managed to ruin punk by now [rant]I say "they" when I play in a band that I suppose could be considered to contribute to the problem because we do play some so-called "pop-punk", but at least we can recognize that our music isn't real punk unlike most of the poseurs around today.[/rant]

So, yeah. I think that movies are getting worse as generations progress.

To counterbalance the negativity of this post, I feel that I must, in addition, post the following smiley cat:
