Reading through the thread I have to concur with people naming Bioshock and Grim Fandango. They'd both make excellent movies. Although considering that the game with the best concept, story, settings and plot is without the shadow of a doubt Planescape: Torment, I'd have to say that if any game should become a movie, it's that one.

I once had an idea for a trilogy based on Zelda:OoT, but I'm not sure if any number of movies could really do that masterpiece justice. The temples would also probably be rather difficult to put into a movie scene. But if it was possible, I would love to see it!

On a (very) similar note, though, Darksiders might make for an interesting movie...

There are a few game movies but most fail.
They should stick to being a game.

Nothing. I have no hope in a good video game movie ever coming out. Y'know why? There is absolutely no precedent for it. NONE. Not a single GOOD video game movie has come out... ever. Yeah, there are some So Bad It's Good movies, like Resident Evil or Mortal Kombat, but nothing that would actually be considered a good movie that can stand on its own merits. And until a good movie is made, I will be the first to instantly decry any video game movie, no matter what director or actor is supposedly behind the project.

All of you people who say cinematic games would work well as movies are wrong. Why? Because those games are already borrowing heavily from movies you might as well just remove the gameplay from the games, cut all the cutscenes together and call it a movie. Now tell me it makes a good movie. You'd have to add bits in here and there, then change stuff, then remove bits, then move stuff arouund, and by that point the studio making it might as well change EVERYTHING and by that poitn you have a pile of crap, which is what I think happens to most game movies.

No, you know what COULD work? Borderlands. Make it character centric, keep the humour, throw in some backstories for the 4 leads and some vague McGuffin about the Vault for the plot. Then throw in gunfights, followed by more gunfights, followed by car chases across alien infested wastelands, then some more gunfights. Make it funny/action packed in a Zombieland sort of style and you'd have a solid movie, that wouldn't be too far removed from the source material to piss off any fans and you're golden.

This is the only game movie I think would work and that I'd want to see. Everything else (God of War, Metal Gear, etc) I've already seen and played, and no movie conversion will ever top them, so why bother?

I was going to say MGS but, upon reflection, that too would be horrible.

Perfect Dark could make a good film. It's got aliens, evil futuristic corporations, it's like every sci-fi movie rolled into one!

I thought the Silent Hill film was awesome.

Uncharted could make a good film, but it'd practically just be Indiana Jones.

The MP movie was a fail, he only does 2 bullet time dives, where in the game he does millions (assuming the player does millions).

Hmm.. Duke Nukem maybe?

None. Fans will ALWAYS be disappointed.
Indeed. There are more movie based games that work then visa versa, and even the majority of them suck ass. Only movie based GAMES that I like are the Riddick ones and the new Batman one (I've only played the Demo as well).
