Two things could - not as movies, but as 3D cartoons. Team Fortress 2 would be just hilarious to see. Look at Meet The Team videos, then imagine a two-hour long movie with character interaction beyond just shooting (like Meet The Spy, for example). Ratchet & Clank, meanwhile, is a perfect source material - some New York newspaper (if memory serves right) even said that it's "as close as you get to playing a Pixar movie". Seriously - it has cute characters, wacky humor, acrobatics, ridiculous firefights, and "quest for the rest" subplot. Everything you need.

That, of course, assuming that people who write those games will also write the movies - otherwise it's likely to be a disaster.

A cool Vampire Flick based on the World of Darkness? The tv-show Angel came close enough in the first seasons, but an NC-17(ish) horror action movie, maybe a cameo of Robert Pattinson getting his ass kicked... yeah that could work.

If we wait a few more months, we'll see if Prince of Persia makes a good movie.

I reckon god of war could translate amazingly onto film.
There is/was plans for that and I wouldn't mind on the condition is was entirely CGI work and the studio that made the games were in constant contact for advice. Because Kratos' moves just don't translate well to real life as far as I can see.
Plus, the guy is build like brick shithouse. I don't see what actor they could get to play him.

GoW could make an amazing movie, but so could most games. But we all know that game movies are made in order to make a quick buck.

All of you people who say cinematic games would work well as movies are wrong. Why? Because those games are already borrowing heavily from movies you might as well just remove the gameplay from the games, cut all the cutscenes together and call it a movie. Now tell me it makes a good movie. You'd have to add bits in here and there, then change stuff, then remove bits, then move stuff arouund, and by that point the studio making it might as well change EVERYTHING and by that poitn you have a pile of crap, which is what I think happens to most game movies.

No, you know what COULD work? Borderlands. Make it character centric, keep the humour, throw in some backstories for the 4 leads and some vague McGuffin about the Vault for the plot. Then throw in gunfights, followed by more gunfights, followed by car chases across alien infested wastelands, then some more gunfights. Make it funny/action packed in a Zombieland sort of style and you'd have a solid movie, that wouldn't be too far removed from the source material to piss off any fans and you're golden.

This is the only game movie I think would work and that I'd want to see. Everything else (God of War, Metal Gear, etc) I've already seen and played, and no movie conversion will ever top them, so why bother?
You're definitely on to something. The problem with making cinematic games into movies is that there's nothing new to contribute. The games are already their own movie versions of the themselves. Now a Borderlands movie or a Red vs. Blue-style Team Fortress 2 movie, that could work.

Generally speaking, making a movie about a video game is about as redundant as writing a novelization of a movie. Its not going to be very good or very inspired, and its only purpose for existing is so the overly zealous fans can drink it up.

I have to disagree with a lot of what is being said here.

MW2 did not have a good story. It's not a bad game but the story was horrible. MW1 had a pretty decent story, MW2 did not.

The Max Payne movie was extremely bad but not, as someone here claimed, because it lacked slow motion but because the people making it had no god damn idea what made the game great. There was no voice over in the Max Payne movie. Why was there no voice over? WHY? The Max Payne games could make excellent movies if they were made by competent filmmakers with a firm grasp on modern film noir and a willingness to embrace the use of overwrought metaphor and noir tropes.

Good movies CAN be made from video games. The reason this has not happened yet is because all the movies that have been made from video games have been made by people who are awful at making movies.

To try to end on a more positive note, Dragon Age does some borrowing from Lord Of The Rings, intentional or not, it might make a good movie in the same vein as Peter Jacksons work.

RE 4. It would be so damn good if they got someone camp enough to play as leon, and a midget awesome enough to play the mini napoleon.

And Krauser.

Also, I think a non space marine WH40k movie is due. I would really like to see a movie from a commisars point of view, or something like that. And besides, with all the Black library at their disposal, it shouldnt be too hard to make a good film about the guardsmen.

If they could do the power armor and troops correctly, Warhammer 40,000 would prove to be an unbeatable movie convert. But that would all swing on how well the characters are designed and presented. There is talk of such a movie I believe.

Heavy Rain basically is a film...so that could work. But I would love to see a Bioshock and Left 4 dead film.

Well obvious ones out the way (and not counting ones already in motion i.e. Bioshock, POP, Condemned, etc):

Mass Effect 1&2
Assassins Creed 1&2
Dead Space
Batman: Arkham Asylum

But the movie I'd like to see is *and yes I know its out there* a Team fortress 2 movie. I love the characters and I know it'd be HILARIOUS (if done right)!

Yea i would love to see a bioshock film to but how are they going to do that when you never really learn anything about the main charcter besides his name and the fact that he has a tatto on his wrist.

bioshock, mass effect, pretty much any game founded on a extremely solid story. the problem with movie makers is they always seem to go for the games that are more hack & slash than story based ones, and when they try to introduce a deep story it sucks.
