QTEs, compulsory multiplayer, tacked-on multiplayer, and basically everything Final Fantasy 13 did.

One that isn't so much a feature but Im sick of seeing is pre-order exclusive DLC. Meaning stuff that is only availble if you pre-order and will never be available on the normal shop.. or costs a ridiculous amount. Oh you didn't pre-order our game, well, you can get the costume that came with it... for an extra $10. I don't care if you still bought it new, you should have bought it before it existed based on our promise it would be good.

The intrusive objective marker and the long and painful tutorial. I dont want the game to hold my hand.

Fucking objective arrows. I might be waxing nostalgic for a time long since past, but I remember when not every video game you played had a list of objectives tacked on to it, since, y'know, they had actual level design. It just adds insult to injury when the game is a linear one like CoD or Battlefield, since there's only one direction to go and one thing to do. Why do I need to be told where to go in a narrow tunnel or corridor?
Agreed. Floating objective markers spoiled a lot of Far Cry 3 for me because regardless of how small they are, they're what you're focused on and they're hard to ignore. The environment itself just becomes so much background noise.

Unnecessary Multiplayer.

Seriously, for one whole year, if any single player campaign focused game didn't have multiplayer, regardless if it was good or not, it would not sell. I honestly didn't care for it if I wanted to play the single player campaign, but it was just annoying that the COD kids were the determining factor to what all gamers demanded in their games.

Might've exaggerated a bit, not sure what will happen if you're not online for more than a few minutes, but the EA hate train is a fun one, so I apologize if I made it sound worse than it is.

I already created a thread about my thoughts about the most games I played in the past.

THEY.ARE.THE.SAME.F*CKING.VIDEO.GAMES.I.PLAY.EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!!!

I really get sick playing the "same" game over and over again. The same FPS, Adventure, Puzzle, Fighting, etc.

That why I really like games like Killer7, Puzzle Quest, CYPHER: Cyberpunk Text Adventure, Zeno Clash [and 2 very soon], Odin Sphere, GodHand, Okami, Catherine, Persona 3 and 4, Dark and Demon Souls and I hope for the other game I am waiting: Dragon Crown.

They are different both for their gameplay AND from their Theme [see for example Zeno Clash].

It's not a game feature, but I'm so far beyond being over online passes. I bought FC3, and I have an Ubisoft Uplay account. Guess what? It won't use it. It wants me to buy another one. Then machine gun/turret secions and multiplayer that is not needed.

Forced stealth sections. Hotline Miami recently brought this little bugbear of mine to the fore by breaking the flow of gameplay with a sickening crack by chucking one of these completely unnecessary, annoying and shitty mission types in.
Trauma.

[HEADING=1]I FUCKING HATE TRAUMA[/HEADING]

That is the worst level I can think of that I've played in the last year. It's aggravating, it's slow, it's not fun.

Dishonoured has a similar ability to let you see everything of import, but that ruins part of the stealthy aspect of the game as you can just run around easily avoiding enemies.
It ruins the stealthy aspect by helping you avoid enemies?

And the main purpose of dark vision is to see the enemies. That's one you could easily ignore (as I did in my first playthrough).
It ruins stealth by removing the element of patience required when scouting ahead. You don't need to be careful because you know exactly where every enemy is, so you don't actually need to be stealthy any more. You just takea few seconds to see where the safe spots are and run through the level. There will never be a moment when you need to carefully check around a corner to see if the coast is clear, or a moment when you are caught unawares because you already know there is noone around. It destroys the tension because you know you are safe and sound.

Basically I want the 1990s deathmatch shooters I missed out on to make a comeback.

"Branching Storylines" that in reality are just the same exact story with one or two differences. If you're gonna let me have options, I want to see some real changes!

Scripted, unavoidable quicktime events that involve smashing one button/key over and over again.

Also, tutorials integrated into the first hour of gameplay.

If it's done really smoothly, like in Metro 2033, I'm fine with that. I that game you can turn off hints and the "tutorial" aspects are very subtle.

Then there's Dead Space, which literally freezes your controls every couple minutes for the first level to force you to read a popup while listening to an identical voiceover telling you how to do something really obvious that one of the characters JUST told you. I swear the game tells you no fewer than FIVE times in the space of 2 or three minutes that you should shoot at enemy's limbs instead of their bodies. If you're gonna be that ham-handed about it just put a damn quick-reference screen in the menu with all the dumbass hints in one place and let me play the damn level without smacking me in the face with instructions.

1) I agree. That being said, Donkey Kong Country Returns is a good example of Nintendo using motion controls in a way that isn't terrible. You basically play DKCR like you would play any given NES game after all except for the odd shake of the wii-mote to...I think ground pound, I don't remember. Skyward Sword was just God Awful and I don't even know about Twilight Princess because I had the presence of mind to purchase my copy on the Gamecube

2) I dislike this: Even if you beat a level but say, forgot to grab all three Star Coins in NSMB(insert number or letter) and find yourself dying more often than you grab the coin you still get the box that activates the super guide. It's the equivalent of playing a game at your friend's house and after you die once or twice, said friend tries to wrench the controller from you so s/he can "show you how it's done" and that just annoys me to no end.
Point 1. Yeah, DKCR wasn't that bad. It was challenging but rightfully challenging. The controllers were easy to handle so if you lost, it was your own damn fault. But with games like Skyward Sword...I mean, I love the story in that game, the music, the characters, the color palette, but the controllers are not very accurate.
See, the game is reaaaaally easy, actually. Remove the Wiimote and replace it with a classic controller and the game is just painfully easy compared to other Zelda games. I suppose that's fine. Doesn't do it for me but okay. But then the game isn't rightfully challenging. The game is challenging because of the time it takes you to master the motion commands and stuff. It's as if someone asks me to play Dora the Explorer Winterland or whatever with my hands tied behind my back and only using my tongue. Of course playing the game is gonna be challenging!

Point 2. The thing I hate about Nintendo is how they're specifically targeting their products towards children and families and NSMB is living proof of it. But fine, I guess I can ignore it; maybe the game wasn't targeted towards someone like me or whatever. It's rated E and stuff. But games like God of War, Dragon Age, Catherine...they're rated M! Give your audience more credit than that.

Oh, and one more I want to add. If you're gonna add multiplayer to a game, make sure it doesn't deprive you of another half of the game. In other words, if I decide to play by myself, I want to know I'm missing a side story or a whole new different campaign. Or if you are gonna do that, at least don't charge for Online Passes (Right, Far Cry 3?). I know that's the point; buy the game new and you get access to both parts of the game for free. buy it used and suffer. But...eh, I'm just being nitpicky again, i guess.

I didn't feel any more tension in my first playthrough (hard difficulty) without even knowing the patrol patterns and without Dark Vision than I did in my second where I used all the powers.

It's a game where you can teleport, stop time, summon rats, and hold enough ammo to stop the orks. But it's also a game that doesn't force you to use any of those. This (especially teleportation) makes me think dishonored is more about fast stealth than Theif stealth.

So in that way, Dark Vision works to assist with that. If you don't like that, more upgrades for the other powers I guess.

This reminds me of the reason I wasn't going to buy Arkham City! AC is single player but in all of the hype and, trailers and whatnot they focused on Catwoman being a big part of the plot and revealed that you would play as her at certain points of the game. Then about a week or two before release, it was revealed that you had to enter an Online Pass to unlock the Catwoman content. Locking content in multiplayer titles is kind of a dick move...locking content that is said to be important to the plot in single player games is a far more erect dick move! Then Arkham City came out on the Wii U with every bit of content and DLC unlocked on disc with no need to input a code of any kind...all it cost me was a digital copy of Batman: Year One, a movie I watched on netflix last week and wasn't at all impressed with. Net win for me but I feel like a scab was just ripped off by a fishing hook dammit.

Lack of split-screen multiplayer in the current generation

I recently cracked out my old Xbox just so I could play some split-screen with my brothers in Star Wars Battlefront 2. They even removed 4-player split-screen in Halo Anniversary. WHY??
