Maybe try Mirror's Edge? A realistic female protagonist (no slutty DD bimbos), optional T-rated violence, fun running/jumping action, and a race mode if you don't like the story/combat.

Get her an artsy fartsy game like Okami. She'll be too distracted by the beauty to think about gameplay.

I had that problem with Morrowind, after I started adding mods. You can wander the damn earth for a month before you actually start playing it.

I've heard great things about Flower. Also, as has been mentioned before, Portal. The Orange Box is only about $20 on the PS3 and if she decides to move up Half-Life 2 and The Episodes are great two, as well as artistic in their own way.

World of Goo and Crayon Physics deluxe are just ridiculously fun and appropriate for all ages. Also maybe some fantastic, less violent RPGs like KOTOR.

Any sort of game that involves playing an instrument might be good. If she is all artsy 'n stuff, perhaps you should get an rts were you can win by only making buildings, like age of empires 2, and then have her put all the towers in cool designs.
win by only making building???? age of empires? aoe is alot more then that.

Get her Linger in Shadows. I've been told its very artsy.
Flow and Flower would also be good choices.

For full games I would go with Mirror's Edge.
Ratchet and Clank is also a good action game thats fairly lighthearted.

And if we're not limited to the PS3, I would suggest Okami, Portal, Beyond Good and Evil, and if she's into RPG's the KOTOR games are really good.

Its star wars so it should at least feel familiar.

Civ 4 is a really, really great PC game. Its pretty easy to get in to, and is a blast to play. Lead your civilization to victory through diplomatic, economical, technilogical, or militaristic means.

Though its probably one to introduce later, since it does seem a bit overwhelming at first.

I would say FF13 is a good bet, my sister likes most of the FF series. I would suggest trying to find any other good RPG for the PS3. Its a shame you don't have an Xbox360, I know plenty of girls who love Fable 2 and both Mass Effects.

Try persona 4. It has fighting, but it also has a good mystery story and awesome character development.

Mirrors Edge and the newest Prince of Persia game.
As a long time girl gamer, I endorse this statement. Then again, I like violence in my stories. Rather, I like conflict. I'm sort of a weaver of story myself, and understand that a story without conflict is dull. However, Prince of Persia [2009] is not the gory kind of violence that some of my girl friends would be turned off by, and contains just enough sexual tension between the Prince and Elika to get any one of them giggly.

Mirrors Edge... I personally love. I love that game to death. There's something about this game that inspires me, and fills me with productive, proactive energy. However, when I showed it to a few of my gal pals that are only casual gamers at best, they got motion sick very quickly. So before you buy this one for her, ask her if movies like Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield make her ill at all. (A "Yes" reply means this game is out.)

Both games require a certain amount of eye hand coordination taken for granted by todays gamers. So PoP 2009 may be the one to get, since it's "Death" mechanic barely takes the player out of action for more than a second.

After flipping though my games, those are my Disk-based recomendations.

PixilJunk Monsters [PSN] is all kinds of addicting tower defense fun. :)

flOw [PSN] was free on the PSN over the weekend. Check to see if it still is. That one may be a winner too, though it lacks plot.

Flower [PSN] is alot like flOw, in that there's little to no plot, but in both cases, there's no violence, and they're totally artsy.

Dark Mist [PSN, Hong Kong]; this is a solid game. It's only available in the Hong Kong store (which takes US currency), so it'll take some homework to get it. It's like a mixture of Legend of Zelda (nes), and any cute Asian game. :) It's quite fun, easy to get into, and challenging at later levels. There's an expansion that I whole heartedly recomend.

There are other games I'd recomend, but these are the strongest suggestions, I believe.

-Any of Nintendo's main franchises
-Most JRPG's

Wow, I just realized that the games I'm recommending for your girlfriend are my favorite games as well.

EDIT: If you only have a PS3 then Nintendo games wouldn't work. They're really one of your best options - they're not very violent and they're tons of fun.

Ooh, wow, I can't help ya there. Most of the women I know are into FPS's like HL2 and Bioshock.

(My sister loves the Halo series)

Little Big Planet You already have that, oops.

Uh, try Peggle, I'm sure that your computer can probably run it even if you game on PS3.

As said, Portal is good, other than that, it's hard to say, just browse the PSN store for stuff that looks good, there aren't many games out there that I can think of for the Ps3 that aren't violent...

those are good but i'd go with flower or elephunk, or similar stuff from the psn store (your best bets) and disk based i'd go, portal, okami (it has fighting but its art based and you draw attacks but is really fun), though you said it, folklore, and prety much any JRPG just cause its turn based attacks and has "cute" sidekicks

I'm curious now, after 5 pages of replies what your thoughts on the recomendations given to you. :) You know your girl best, and it sounds like you're trying to put some thought behind your gift. What do you think based on the thread recomendations and what you know of these games? Any that the people have recomended that strike you?
