Your girlfriend sounds lame.

Sorry, I'm sure she's not, I just don't understand why girls have to go around encouraging the stereotype that girls don't like shooting people in the face with lazers and bullets. I LOVE VIOLENCE. And I hate anyone who would suggest something like Twilight the video game.

Why not go cheap and get her some older Final Fantasy games? Or get her Bioshock 2 and when she doesn't like it say "That's okay, I'll play it!" And then all will be well in the world.

Hey guys! My girlfriend recently got into gaming. She's been playing Little Big Planet and games from PSN Store on her brother's PS3 and she would like to get more into gaming.
This might already be covered since it's from the PSN store, but I would bet Flower [http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/Flower] would be perfect. Also, you cannot possibly go wrong with Peggle/Peggle Nights - I had to get my wife her own Steam account to play those on, because she kept booting me off mine. Most of the quirky, artistic games are going to be downloads though, which may be difficult to give as a gift.

As for full games, I'm almost certain that Katamari Forever [http://www.amazon.com/Katamari-Forever-Playstation-3/dp/B0028A6UUY] would be a win, as would Afrika [http://www.amazon.com/Afrika-Playstation-3/dp/B000ZKDOUI/]. The latter would probably be particularly impressive if she likes photography (which girls tend to do). There's also the Spyro and LEGO Star Wars/Indiana Jones/Harry Potter games, which are light action. Heavy Rain [http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Rain-Playstation-3/dp/B002CZ38KA/] might also be a good option when it's released, but it's definitely on the darker end of things, so it depends on her sensitivities whether or not it'll be appropriate.

I don't know about Final Fantasy XIII though. If she's into anime and Japanese culture it might work, but there's just as much of a chance that she'd find it boring or too combat-heavy.

Personally, I don't fall for all of those dull games like flower, despite my female gender. I prefer games life Half Life 2 and BioShock. I do have (loosely defined) friends that seem to like things like the Sims, so get her that, maybe?

Let her play Sims 2 for PS2 or PC. That thing will FORCE you to blow hours out of your life. Or get her games like Bubble Town or popcap games. Honestly, basing this on my family, women care little about story and levels. They want to hear electronic music and the satisfaction of getting to level 11 before they are maxed out.

I would says Braid is pretty artistic... Or maybe Left 4 Dead 2, she could paint the world red.. That's also kinda artistic.. In some wicked and evil way..

Believe it or not, I've gotten a girl into Bioshock (mostly because she's a fan of Ayn Rand, but still...)
Wait... You got a Rand fan into a game that's essentially built on the untenable nature and inevitable failure of Randian Objectivism? BU-WHAAAAA?!

OT: The Katamari games are good, as are puzzle-based games like Bejeweled (or Puzzle Quest if she likes a bit o' narrative), Peggle, Fat Princess, the Maw, Braid, Flower, or various other Pop Cap games like Plants vs. Zombies, Zuma or Bookworm. She might also like the LEGO universe games, or some E-rated platformers like Psychonauts, Spyro, or Jak & Daxter.

Apologies for anything already listed.

Maybe she personally just doesn't want to play violent games. Girls don't need to play violent games just to prove they can.

Good lord, you guys can be a bunch of dorks. "Girl" doesn't necessarily mean "fufu princess" who only wants to play artsy games in multiple colors of pink.

Geez.

I met my wife in Dark Age of Camelot. She's a gamer, but looks down on a large portion of the suggestions you guys would make... though she has played the Sims... hmm.

Portal was a good suggestion. Even my anti-gamer nieces loved Portal.

Go for just "Good" games. Bioshock if she can handle shooters yet. Mass Effect or something like that if she likes decent stories.

Better yet, get two computers and play Left 4 Dead together. My wife was never a big FPS player, but we started playing L4D together regularly and now she's pretty good. We mostly play on Advanced for a good balance of fun and challenge. She also enjoys TF2... mostly because she likes to watch people burn though, she only plays a pyro.

How about Animal Crossing?
It's creative, you get to build your own town and I certainly think it's artistic. The game is also better off played in short gaming sessions so it's perfect for a new gamer.

Folklore is a good one...
What about the one where you roll around collecting garbage and dogs and stuff in your massy body of crap? That was quite a flowery, artsy one...

Sorry if anyone else has mentioned it, or if it's not on the PS3.
I'm a die-hard 360 fan, even though I have a PS3 :D
If you disagree...I'll cut you. Or block you or something. Lol
