Spyro.Everything about it is a clusterfuck of clashing opinions on how best to milk the most money out of dewy-eyed, gullible little children and their ignorant parents. I mean, I enjoyed Spyro right up until it suddenly changed gears and went through a re-boot.

Oh, what's this? A new character? Cor, sounds good. Oh wait, she's a bad guy. Oh, wait she becomes a good guy in the most cliche way! Then the big bad is revealed! Oh no, cliffhanger! Well, good job putting the big bad at the START of the next flipping game, you money-grabbing bloody idiots.

That's even without my unending contempt for the drastic personality changes of the classic NPC characters. Remember when Hunter was entertaining?

Gotta add Rayman to the list. Hoodlum Havoc was a pretty fresh addition, and then what came along? Raving Rabbids. Least thought-out marketing choice in the history of gaming, in my opinion. Ubisoft were smoking some heavy drugs when they came up with that idea.

"Yo, dude, what's that franchise called? The one we get a crapton of cash from?"

"You mean Rayman?"

"Yeah, man! I had, like, the best idea! How about, we take out the main character, right, and, and just shove in a bunch of mentally deficient amorphous rabbits?"

"Duuuude! Best idea EVAR."

Yeah, thanks for that, you pothead losers.

Resident Evil 5 killed the Resident Evil series for me. Sure, I had only played 4, but if the story and the gameplay are WORSE than they were in Resident Evil 5? Fuck it. I'm not submitting myself to that kind of torture.

Ever have a game franchise you used to like, but not so much now? How come?

The franchise I've lost interest in is Sonic, mostly the games though still into the comics and the fan stuff. The reason would have to be hearing the disappointment critic and fan reviews of some of the bad games a few years ago like ShTH and 06. During that time, I guess I've grown out of Sonic to a point that I kinda wish it would have ended. Though I still have fond memories of the classics. Sonic Colors seem to be having high reviews, but I don't care about it that much and probably wouldn't buy it. As successful it sounds and that it could make Sonic popular again, somehow I feel it wouldn't last too long since Sega seems to be milking him to death which could lead to their downfall IMO, and I've too much faith in Sonic Team.

Well, unless Sonic switches to another developer or company like Nintendo or Capcom, I might get into it again, but not at this point.

What are yours?
I was going to say the same thing the moment I saw the topic. Sonic is what got me into gaming and yet I'm completely turned off to the games now. It's kind of depressing really. My last favorite game of the franchise was SA2 for the Dreamcast -- though flawed, I fucking loved it and it was everything I could want from a Sonic game. It started to go downhill after that. I enjoyed some of the Sonic Advance games -- and even Sonic Rush was kind of fun (though I did get bored and found that new cat girl character to be pointless). I couldn't even get farther than a couple levels in Sonic Riders because I found the whole concept to be retarded -- like why the hell does Sonic need a hoover board when he is as fast as teh speed of sound?) annnd while I did play all the way through Shadow the Hedgehog.... I'm not gonna lie that thing was pretty awful. I suppose the game play was better than the dialouge but that's not saying much. I was so pumped because Shadow is such an AWESOME character -- well, at least that's what I thought before the game. I guess SEGA wanted to go edgy and sort of put an RPG eliminate into the game? Well it didn't work. There were some fun levels, but some of the missions were annoying and the guns and vehicles seemed kind of pointless (ESPECIALLY considering the vehicles moved slower than Shadow walked. :| )

I'm pretty sure Nintendo can't save Sonic's ass... but I'm not really sure if anything can. It's kind of depressing really. u_u

ALSO:: Why did they get rid of the Chao system after SA2?

All of them, i look for interesting concepts and hope they are done right. Very hard to find these days since most games just like to copy another game and just add in 1 new, worthless concept.

I'm just going back and playing old games now-a-days, since they have more replayibility and ingenuity than the games of today

Zelda, easily. I don't think I'll be buying those anymore. I recently realized that I don't like puzzles and I absolutely hate getting stuck because of a puzzle. I hate running laps around some damn temple trying to figure out how the hell to get on with the game.

I think Mass Effect, also. It's just...the writing is great, the combat is mediocre and far too scarce, and the setting is very very bland. I don't think there are any ideas in there that I haven't seen in some other science fiction setting. The setting does very little to distinguish itself except for its above average race design. Dragon Age did the same thing with its setting (minus the race design, [sarcasm]because you can't have fantasy without elves and dwarves, right?[/sarcasm]), but I hated that one because the combat was no fun at all.

If Versus XIII isn't a return to form after vanilla XIII then I think I'll have lost faith in Final Fantasy. XII was a step forward in terms of everything bar story for me, XIII has regressed it back beyond last gen games gameplay wise. I loved VI, enjoyed VII, VIII was my favourite, and IX was entertaining.

I don't think Pokemon needs to die, I just think it needs a rethink in terms of gameplay, there are only so many times I can pick from 3 starter pokemon, fight 8 similarly themed gym bosses, and catch the same pokemon with different sprites.

And any series with a silent protagonist, I just feel it's lazy storytelling.
Welcome to the escapist and I believe we have a thread winner, he sums up everything I feel about FF and Pokemon perfectly. Well done.
