Game Franchises You've Lost Interest In

Ever have a game franchise you used to like, but not so much now? How come?

The franchise I've lost interest in is Sonic, mostly the games though still into the comics and the fan stuff. The reason would have to be hearing the disappointment critic and fan reviews of some of the bad games a few years ago like ShTH and 06. During that time, I guess I've grown out of Sonic to a point that I kinda wish it would have ended. Though I still have fond memories of the classics. Sonic Colors seem to be having high reviews, but I don't care about it that much and probably wouldn't buy it. As successful it sounds and that it could make Sonic popular again, somehow I feel it wouldn't last too long since Sega seems to be milking him to death which could lead to their downfall IMO, and I've too much faith in Sonic Team.

Also, I've grown to be more of a Fighter/RPG person, sometimes FPS as well. Though I still like platformers. SMG2 was heaps of fun, and I'm planning to get Kirby's Epic Yarn. However, Sonic just isn't doing it for me anymore in gaming. Well, unless Sonic switches to another developer or company like Nintendo or Capcom, I might get into it again, but not at this point.

What are yours?

Final Fantasy for me I think. Every game is worse than the last and there's only so much Japanese lady-boy angst I can take.

I used to be a big call of duty fan, but after modern warfare 2 I felt that there was no soul to it and all the once epic shoot-outs had become very very dull. I guess thats why I'm not going to get Black Ops. In a way I wish things would end and the gaming community could start to move away from FPS, but theres simply too much money and there are infinite scenarios to stage a full scale war. Maybe if they tried something unusual like WW1 I might get intrested again.

I'm more of an RPG/Racing guy now, theres always a challenge and i like just building my character up. Although i do still have a soft spot for Killzone 2, but then again i dont see myself turning back.

I would say Final Fantasy after X, but I am looking forward to Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII.

So I'm going to go with Pokemon. The original Gold and Silver versions were the peak and they've just gone downhill since.

Sonic, Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, Mario, Mega Man, Metroid is also circling the drain.

Let them die, Nintendo! Let them die!

I guess I might as well go for the big one and say...

Halo.

I really enjoyed the first one. Say what you will, it gave me many hours of enjoyment. But the second was about as much fun as a kick in the teeth. And after that they levelled out into "okay" territory.

I don't hate the Halo franchise. Most of the games have a few decent moments in them. But they no longer elicit the slightest stir of interest from me.

Probably the COD franchise.
MW2 was addictive, but not exactly fun.
I don't plan on getting Black Ops any time soon.

Like others have said, the Call of Duty series. I liked 2 and 4 but after that the games just didn't interest me. Not that they were bad, but I didn't like them.

Final Fantasy, because after 8 it just got sad.
Total War, after Medieval 2 it just seems to not have a soul anymore.
Silent hill, Loved 1 2 and 3, but after that it just...eh.
And Starcraft. ...Even if it only has 2 games. 2 just....eh

Any game with an ungodly amount of installments, ala, Final Fantasy, several sports games, notably Fifa, and GH/Rockband (which are the same game).

Also most brown shooters.

CoD. I stopped caring after MW, and even that I picked up a few months late.

Splinter Cell a little too - I liked what they were going for with Conviction until they actually force you into firefights. I suspect an issue may have been with the development switch but they could have really done something with improvisation of the environment but no, Sam's even more tooled up then when he was in the previous games. The story felt a little cheap too:

If his daughter has to be alive - which is far less interesting a proposition than him being mad as hell and out for revenge I might add - then don't reveal it in the second fucking level.

Final Fantasy, first and foremost. Loved I, VI and VII, liked most of the rest, even XII, but XIII was just plain awful.

Resident Evil 5 was sort of disappointing, but I must have enjoyed it someone, since I put quite a lot of hours into it. The mansion DLC was also very good, so here's hoping for a return to form next time.

Resistance 2 was pretty disappointing. The first one was fun, but I think the general lack of games at the time made it stand out more than it deserved. When they turned the sequel into a Halo clone I more or less lost interest, probably won't be picking up the third.

And then there's Zelda, lost interest in that after Link's Awakening. The 3D ones never really did it for me.

If Versus XIII isn't a return to form after vanilla XIII then I think I'll have lost faith in Final Fantasy. XII was a step forward in terms of everything bar story for me, XIII has regressed it back beyond last gen games gameplay wise. I loved VI, enjoyed VII, VIII was my favourite, and IX was entertaining.

I don't think Pokemon needs to die, I just think it needs a rethink in terms of gameplay, there are only so many times I can pick from 3 starter pokemon, fight 8 similarly themed gym bosses, and catch the same pokemon with different sprites.

And any series with a silent protagonist, I just feel it's lazy storytelling.

the only ones I can say I liked and lost interest with were Final Fantasy, Silent Hill, and Pokemon. The first two were classic examples of series being handed over to people who had NO clue what the hell they were doing and the pedigree has suffered badly with no one having the humility to admit their mistakes. I'll admit Pokemon is still a good series, but I grew out of it after Silver and Gold.

Pokemon for sure. It doesn't make any sense to keep going, and it had enough for two games worth of playtime in each game. Not to mention all the spin-offs. It's literally the only series that I've gotten tired of after having too long of a run, though perhaps it's just because I don't have the patience for some other long-running series like Final Fantasy.

Sadly, Kingdom Hearts.

The first game fed me everything I wanted and more, and like a good little addict, I was hooked. The second expanded on that, but the gap between the two games totally pissed me off. Not to mention, I felt that the second didn't have the same atmosphere as the first, which made me favour the predecessor.

358/2 Days was wonderful. The story was actually amazing. I felt so sorry for the Organisation members, I was drawn in, and the final boss actually gripped me by the balls and made me cry. (Not the final final boss)

Birth By Sleep looks like it is making the plot more ridiculously convoluted than it needs to be, and I'm losing interest.

Sadly, because Square are so fucking clever, I've come too far to just give up on it completely, so I'm still going to pick up every title I can find...
