That "puzzle" in HL2 in Ravenholm when there was a wire connecting an electrified fence to a power source. You have to fight a room full of zombies in order to turn it off when you could just shoot one of the dozens of buzz saws to cut it.
Yeah these types of things come up more often now that we're given more freedom in games the times when it is restricted seems to stand out more. I can still remember the "seesaw" puzzle in HL2 and wondering "why can't I just climb up this ledge that's slightly too high to jump over?" I understand they were trying to teach us an in-game physics lesson for later on, but it still bothered me somewhat.

OT: Rainbow Six: Vegas. I installed the game, started the first mission, realized that I couldn't jump AT ALL (ankle-high walls and ledges seemed impassable!) and then quit the game, un-installed it and haven't touched it since...

The fact that the newest Pokemon game restricts Experience points. If you don't know about it, what it is is that higher level pokemon get less experience from defeating a wild pokemon than their weaker counterparts. Good for low-levels, but frustrating for training your team. I knew about it beforehand, but never envisioned how frustrating it would be.
That and the fact of every boldore, sawk, and later graveler having sturdy.
YES!

Also, the further on I go into the story, the more I think, "Why the hell did Bianca even come on this trip anyway?" Also, Cheren reminds me of Sasuke, and not in a good way.
They keep them 2-d for the 5 year olds.Bianca is there to show a starter and give you fly and that is all I can tell

Any game that has an 'options menu' where the only option is usually one or two things, when i need sound, visual, options etc

Lack of flexibility turns me off pretty quick. I'm looking directly at the Uncharted series right now, because those are some DAMN inflexible games. You HAVE to switch to whatever weapons your enemies are carrying, and you HAVE to kill enemies in exactly the right order as they come in the room in waves. It's two-dimensional hoop-jumping in cover-based shooter form, and that just irritates me.

When I accidentaly skip a cutscene and there's no way of replaying it.

OR

AUTO-SAVE! EVERY FUCKING GAME SHOULD HAVE AUTO-SAVE!!! Grrrrr... was playing Half Life the other day on ps2 and I died on the tunnel rail system part. But I didn't save and I found myself back on the transit system listening to the current topside temperature... Needless to say, I haven't touched the game since...

The games that advertise and demo as one genera of game and end up being other ones. It's so stupid. "new action-adventure? Sweet!... waitasecond... its a sim-style game...." those are what kill the mood. Even if I like both genera's, it kills the mood for me. Consistency is nice.
You mean like Brutal Legend?

Speaking of Brutal Legend, the more RTS stuff you are required to do, the less interest I have in the game until I got to the swamp wherein you find the Goths. I turned off the game shortly after that point and never went back

S.T.A.L.K.E.R - probably seems unfair because they aren't super perfect, but everything else about their games are.

1. The ever-shrinking game world per sequel; the zone just doesn't seem nearly as threatening when there's less of it to die in. The first one you felt that - "This is a big scary wilderness, I could get lost here, fuck.". In the last one: "Meh, that's it? this is like shorter than the walk down to my bus-stop!"

2. Becoming less terrifying: in 1- the bloodsuckers are mostly invisible, in 3 - they are TOTALLY invisible, and for some reason, they are less scarier than the first - because the panic you feel from being able to just barely SEE one coming at you makes you shit your pants just that much more. Same can be said with a lot of other things - for some reason the first one had the best atmosphere - where the sequels either were too pleasant, or just lacked the grittiness of the first.

3. Nigh-invulnerable creatures: seriously- emptying 6 assault rifle clips to kill one monster? If you want to make it difficult, make them move faster, be less predictable, have more special attacks and maneuvers. Not give them 6 inches of plate armor.

4. Poorly scripted AI and events: ZP mentioned this - being asked to do a mission, and then moments later, find the friendly neighborhood have just done it for you pro-bono. Getting missions where for some reason- your target happens to have travelled into a place you aren't allowed to fire your gun (and he decides to live there... forever) - and then of course the village is after you pitchforks n all after you shoot him out of impatience in waiting for him to wander outside the city walls or something.

Otherwise a fantastic series :D
I'm currently working on finishing Shadow of Chernobyl. My biggest problem is how much damage you take from a single shot. It's all random. You could endure 15 shots point blank from an assualt rifle, and then later get taken down by a single graze with a Makarov. I love the game, but it's a little deppressing when I have to load the same save file 10 times in a row after killing 13 out of 14 enemies. Of course, I'm a noob, so maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
the sound effects in cod world at war, the guns sounded like toys, not even good toys like halo's guns, just shitty toys, probably more noticeable since I had been playing lots of bc2 and no one has better gun sounds then bc2

also one of the medal of honor games... the one set in the pacific, I couldnt bring myself to play more then a few lvls since the pearl harbor part was just soooooo stupidly unrealistic and totaly not even close to how it happened

i was really appalled by a line in COD blops (possible spoiler?) during the vietman mission where you have to stealth slit the throats of natives and with the last one an npc says something like 'that never gets old'. ffing disgusting and totally unnecessary glorification of something i hated doing in the first place.

Yeah first time I fired my sniper rifle out a window from inside a building I was like 'HOLY SHIT that was loud!'

And yeah, in one game, I can't remember which one it was, the game let's you shoot down something like twice the ammount of zeros that were actually shot down in the entire actual event. That pisses me off.

Wind Waker, and the FUCKING sailing. Phantom Hourglass wasn't as bad since the world was smaller and when you wanted to go you didn't have to select the sail, select the Wind Waker, play the fucking Wind's fucking Requiem, direct the wind, select a weapon to use on the sea, then pick your nose for ten minutes as you slowly travel around a for the most part boring and uneventless sea.

What makes me so annoyed is that one person thought this was a good idea, but everyone.

I think only like 4 or 5 zeroes were shot down during pearl harbor, maybe less... probably less, the amount you shoot down in the lvl just really killed any immersion for me since you are not only shooting them down but your doing it with a machine gun on the ground or something really stupid, its been awhile

I think Far Cry 2 did health pretty good. It mixed regenerating health with a health bar.

Dialogue system in Dragon Age 2 if I pick something recent (and no, I don't wanna cause any flamewar). I was so ready to buy the game and enjoy it. Until I saw that abomination.

Roman constantly calling you up in GTA4 was pretty annoying sometimes, but you could turn it off, and it wasn't a game breaker for me, but i've seen a hell of a lot of people ***** about it in these forums.
Hold the phone, you could WHAT?!? I... I never knew... ( ._.)
