The games that advertise and demo as one genera of game and end up being other ones. It's so stupid. "new action-adventure? Sweet!... waitasecond... its a sim-style game...." those are what kill the mood. Even if I like both genera's, it kills the mood for me. Consistency is nice.
You mean like Brutal Legend?

Speaking of Brutal Legend, the more RTS stuff you are required to do, the less interest I have in the game until I got to the swamp wherein you find the Goths. I turned off the game shortly after that point and never went back
Yeah that game was a horrible bait and switch. Looked like a good action adventure, actually turned into a very poor RTS. And I think I stopped somewhere near where you did.

There are SO many, but here is one off the top of my head.

Far Cry 2
Now, quite a lot of people who I know hated this game, but I enjoyed it and tried to convert them into liking it. This was right up until the ending. "So," Mr Far Cry 2 says to me "would you rather blow yourself up or just shoot yourself? It doesn't matter too much to me since you've already killed all of your friends; you know, the only characters who you had anything close to an emotional contact with; and either way you'll still be helping the person you've been trying to kill all game."

Well done Ubisoft, you really know how to make the player feel like he(or she) has accomplished something. Why you decided that I should care about some NPCs that I hardly ever saw, I will never know! Why did I even HAVE to shoot myself? How would it have defended the civilians?!

I'm going to stop now before I really start ranting, and trust me, I could carry on for quite a while.

Lost Odyssey, when I was instantly KO'd by some random giant crab thing. I was already frustrated with the game, I just drew the line when that happened.
I'd say the same game, but because they put all the save points AFTER the bosses. So if you failed the boss; Congratulations you get to do the better parts of a dungeon again, enjoy.

Also: Final Fantasy 13, for um everything? Well endless meaningless corridors and boring combat.

Most recently, the homefront length... After 4.5 hours of playtime the credits rolled and I literally said to myself "Is that it?"
I thought everyone got the memo [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108337-Homefront-Has-a-5-Hour-Campaign-Sort-of].

Either the linear corridors, the linear level up system, or the auto attack feature of FF XIII, So pretty much combat and exploration in FFXIII in general... So pretty much the fact that FFXIII was a game and not a movie, or a tv series.

I was happily playing Dragon Age 2 and getting ready for my expedition into the Deep Roads when I stopped to have a chat with Sandal's father. We got on the topic of the Grey Warden from the previous game, and the dwarf said something along the lines of "Yes, the Grey Warden was a great man".

That totally broke immersion for me. I've always played as a female and it was very set in my mind that both the Grey Warden of the last game and the Champion of this game were female. That one line shocked me back into the "oh right, I'm playing a game" mode of thinking.

Same thing happens to me when someone refers to Commander Shepard as a male.

Aurora. Interface-wise compared to this, Dwarf Fortress is the tutorial for Snuggly Kittens in Magical Wonder Kingdom For Toddlers.

Reverse of Arcadia

When I was told I need to chase after a guy on a poorl designed race course with horrible controls for the D-Wheel, chasing a guy who gets a head start and goes faster then you... and if you lose, you need to go back to the last save field to re-do a 5 minute cutscene you can't skip.

Mass Effect 2 - It's harder starting at max level on the hardest difficulty than starting on level 1, because you don't have the upgrades you normally should.

Also, the inability to change your character's name.

Also, the fucking dialogue wheel.

Also, 'tactical' gamers on online games.

The clipping in CoD 2: BR1 and other people in any game that has multiplayer. I still hold the belief that people are the best and worst aspect of multiplayer in ANY game.
