Shadow of the Colossus, no contest. Metroid Prime (the first one) is merely excellent. Also, the first Burnout.

Fallout 3 (listening to the radio while exploring made it so much more fun)

GTA: Vice City (brought some truly good memorable 80s tracks to go with your inevitable vehicular manslaughter count)

Mr. Kondo made the single most hummed tune ever, SMB 1-1.
Though I prefer Sonic music myself. There are only a few 3D Sonic tunes I like, but most of the Genesis games have great music. Sonic 3 Robotnik boss music is one of my all-time favorites, and I have S&K's Doomsday Zone theme as my secondary ringtone (the MGS Codec bleeping is my main, with Doomsday being used for friends).

Modern game music just isn't as memorable as the classic midi soundtracks.

I find the lack of Chrono Trigger in this thread to be deeply disturbing.

Possibly the most epic music in the game is about a F***ING FROG.

Seriously though, there are very few bad tracks in the Chrono Trigger OST.

Fallout 3 - I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire, and the one that says something about the stars being the shootiest.

Modern Warfare 2 - Boneyard Intro, Boneyard Flyby, Intro Extended.

Final Fantasy VIII - The Landing.

I've got the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune soundtrack on my iPod because I really enjoy both it and the game, and I'm a Greg Edmonson fan.

Greg Edmonson also did the soundtrack to Firefly (and Serenity), where Mal (Nathan Fallon) really reminds me of Nate. Small world - in my head at least.

The music though, stands on its own - magical.

The music of the Halo series fills me with so many ranges of emotions from calmed and soothed to psyched up and badass and all points in between. It is great stuff.

This should really be in 3 catagries.
For the overall, original soundtrack, I'd say the Final Fantasy games, and specifically Final Fantasy VIII.
Licensed soundtrack I'd go with Vice City.
Individual track, nothingbeats Hell March 2 from Red Alert 2.

Halo has the only orcrastra(or watever you call it) music I actualy like.
...really?
That's a bit sad.

Anyway, mega-contribution to the topic in no particular order:
Focus lies on original music in my case.

Note: The above is actually a rendition of a traditional swedish folk song; but it meshes so perfectly with the subject matter I thought it was worth an admission.

Tempest 2000 on the 'ol Atari Jaguar. That even had its soundtrack released on CD, & it was pretty popular. It had some good techno.

Eternal Champions on the Sega CD has a great soundtrack. I used to listen to it all the time, which was easy because all I had to do was put the game into a normal CD player.

Some of the renditions of the original Metroid music's pretty cool too.

I also agree with the Halo games, Vice City, & Braid
