The gamestops here are totally fine... they never pressure me to buy or harass me about my purchases. Of course I usually diffuse the situation be pre-emptivly saying "I'm going to hate myself in the morning" when buying something like Ninety Nine Nights or Dynasty Warriors.

It sounds like more of an issue with that particular clerk, you can just ignore him, refuse business (like you did) or talk with the guys manager if he countinually harasses you. Part of customer service is knowing when NOT to talk. I cashier at a grocery store and I see people much, much fatter then me, buying tons of junk food. Do you think I say shit about it to them? No, I say mmm that looks good. When i'm really thinking, good fucking lord do you need 3 slabs of ribs!?

Do remember it's just a kid, and probably his first job. If it's something he does perpetually talk to his manager so he can get checked. If your anything like me that'd make you feel like a dick, but if you -really- can't ignore him, thats the only way to help him improve himself.

The irony is that people keep coming up to me and asking if a game is good, unless i'm in my school uniform

They always want to make money, and try to convince you to buy their more favourite expensive game. COD 4 is still about full price DAMMIT!

There used to be a pretty awesome EB games where I live but gamestop pushed them out. So now I have this really fucking annoying IT looking guy that critisizes me for every single purchase I make. Not that I buy a lot of stuff from there but when I decide I am gonna go find a few old cheap titles it sucks.

At least the guy who worked at EB games used to talk to me about morrowind all the damn time. All my favorite old stores got pushed out by either best buy or gamestop so yea..

Nah, they're pretty cool in my experience.

Except this one time this guy that knew nothing about video games try to take to me about them. I mean he was advertising Wolfinstein which I clearly knew was going to be bad and telling me that the new SSB: Brawl was gonna come out when the game had already come out months prior.

This doesn't count, but I clearly remember a family with a small boy that was looking to buy a new console at Best Buy. Initially they were looking at the PS3 when he recommend that if that wanted a good game console, they should get a Xbox360, which was interesting.

Huh... The EB games/Gamestops around here are fine... The clerks are friendly and they don't really push anything.

For some reason whenever i go to a gamestop they always ask me to pre-order my games.

About 2 weeks ago i went into a gamestop to get Dirt 2 on the release date. I go in and they say they only have 2 in stock and they're both pre-ordered. So thats fair enough, i guess alot more people then me wanted the game. So I go to a gamestop about 10 miles away because they have a copy. I buy the game, hand over my $60 cash and guess what i get.

Clerk- "Your stupid to not pre-order this game"

Me- "Not really, I don't pre-order games, I wait for the reveiws and see if i want it badly enough"

Clerk- " So you garente (sp?) a game in store for you"

Me- " Didn't you just hear me, i dont pre-order them because I'd like to know how good it is first (in the nicest way possible of course)"

Clerk- "Its still stupid"

Well excuse me for liking to know what the game is and how good it is before i fork over $60, that really starts to get on my nerves.

And today i went to gamestop (the one that i like for they don't have these douche bags) and buy Ferrari Challenge. And guess what i get from the new achne faced guy.

Achne-"Oh that game sucks, you should get Burnout Paradice"

Me-"Oh i already have that game, and anyway you can't compare the two, they're in different genras"

Achne- "No they're not, you drive in both"

Me-"Yeah but this is a realistic racer and Burnout isnt, so they're different"

Achne-"Oh well it still sucks ass"

Me-"well escuse me for personal taste."

Then I go up to the register to by the thing and he asks if i want to pre-order and games. I politely say no and start walking out of the store.

Achne- "You should do it though, its stupid not to".

Then I have to go through the whole frist conversatino again, i fucking hate 17 year olds, they all suck, and this is coming from a 14 year old.

I went in to buy Mirror's Edge at Gamestop once. I was pretty lost in thought so I wanted to get the game, maybe grab something fruity, in that my beverage in question would be fruit-flavored, at the Starbucks next door and get back to whatever it was that I was thinking about. My cashier, of course, had other plans.

"Hey, we have this used."
"What?"
"We have this used. You could save 2 dollars."
"No thanks. I bought Fallout 3 used and my disc was all scratched. Not really worth the 4 bucks I saved."
"Oh? Not our fault. You could have returned it within 7 days."
"Well, I didn't."
"You sure you don't want this used? You could always return it in 7 days."
"No, I'm pretty sure that I'll be keeping it."
"Tell you what, you could probably beat Mirror's Edge in 7 days."
"Right, but I think I'll just get it new."
"Yeah, sure thing. Do you want to preorder anything today?"
"Nope, just this."
"ODST's coming out soon."
"Yeah, I'm sort of on the fence about that one. I'll just stick with this."
"Madden, Modern Warfare 2... Some of these come with nice preorder bonuses."
"Nah, no thanks."
"Modern Warfare 2 comes with a poster."
"Cool, but I'm fine, thanks."
"Alright, here's your new copy of Mirror's Edge. Have a nice day."

I can accept that store policy forces them to try and sell us on preorders and used games and whatnot, but good god.
Oh, and he was wrong about Mirror's Edge. You can't obsessively improve your time trial runs over and over in 7 days.

You have a bad EB games? The ones in Toronto are just fine. Where do you live?
Being a Torontonian that I am, I second this statement. Even though I don't usually buy things at EB games, they're pretty good here.
The people at the one near Yonge & Eglinton (it's further north than that, I don't know the name of the sidestreet though) are really nice. I pre-ordered Scribblenauts but wasn't on the list for some reason, and they remembered me. And I got the hat. <3

hehe i was in gamestop where i live and they are all nice. Some time ago a fun thing happened though. I was browsing through games to pc and the clerk came over to me and started asking if i was gonna buy this game wich i was checking out. I said nah this is not my style i prefer this i said and took another game down. Oh me too thats a really nice game. In the end we actually became friends and after his workshift had ended he came over to my place (wich wasnt very far from the store anyways) and we played some on my xbox360. Now we still play coop games over the net like Titan quest, Team fortress 2 and a hellova lot of other games so i have had good experience with gamestop.

Talk about it! if you go to gamestop and dont play WoW or COD they'll ban you from buying there! No shit this is true! I tried to buy digimon world ds but the guy said they didn't have any left. but the guy didn't realize there were like 18 copies behind him for sale!

The Gamestop near me is pretty good, if I, a 18 year-old male can walk in and buy Harvest Moon DS: Island of Happiness, and not get any smary comebacks or rebuttals or whatnot, its good, the worst i got was a The Cake is a Lie joke when i bought the Orange Box...a lot better than the EB games near me >_>

Why is it every time I go into a game traders or EB games store I end up having to justify my personal opinions on games?

The most recent encounter was two or three weeks ago, roughly around when the new Halo game was coming out, I was EB games on my lunch break, looking over the pre-owned Xbox 360 games, when the PFY (Pimply Faced Youth) manning the store came over to me and asked if I needed anything, a polite "No thank you I'm fine" should of sent him back to his hole, but he must of been new so I got a dissertation on the game I currently had in my hand, and then a question about weather or not I had pre-ordered the new Halo game, my reply of "nahh not really into FPS games" should of shut him down.

But oh no, it was like I had murdered his dog after sleeping with his mother, sister, and girl-friend in his childhood bed.

After a 10 minute rant on how Halo is the best thing to happen to mankind since toilet paper and how FPS games are the pinnacle of modern gaming, I put the game I was going to buy back on the shelf and walked out of the store.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind FPS games, I rather enjoyed a few of them, but I'm more a 3rd person action/adventure or RPG gamer that some times indulges in other genres, I'm perfectly happy with people playing whatever they enjoy, but for some reason every time I voice my personal preference I get treated like a leper.

It's far from the first time it's happened, the reaction I got at one store after saying I wasn't really interested in Bioshock 2 as I couldn't really get into the first game, finding it kind of clunky despite being awesome to look at with an incredible story line was similar to the reaction one would get wearing a Swastika into a Synagogue.

Why is it the people working in these stores never seem to grasp that just because they enjoy something it doesn't mean everyone else will enjoy it as well?
just one question for ya. which FPS do you prefer for the SNES, DOOM or WOLFENSTEIN?

This is part of the reason I don't buy off EB anymore, that and their prices are rediculous. Sure they have price match, but that is never an argument for me, why would I use extra effort to go get a cheaper price and give my money to EB, when I can get it for the same price at the other place I saw it.
I'm sure there are other EB stores that are great, but I'm very much a fan of my local Gametraders. Usually have a good chat with the staff. The owner there always gives me nice discounts.
Just need to find a store you like and stick with them instead.

I have done that in the past as well. I hate the clerks who are half my age and think they know video games better than I do when I have been playing them for much longer than they have been alive.

In the future, may I suggest having some fun with one of these PFYs. I have done all of the following:
1. Asked to speak to the manager to complain about the harassment and derision and gotten a discount.
2. Pretended to not know how to speak English and then after the idiot made fun of me, complained to the manager and got the kid in trouble.
3. Told him to fuck off.
4. Started telling other customers in line about where they could find the game cheaper.

P.S.
I also hate the idiots (and they are idiots) that recommend the same game on the PS3 when I asked if they had the game on 360. Obviously I am asking for the 360 version because I own a 360 and not a PS3.

I personally just use game trading sites. I can go and get a game for a certain points value (done in points and not cash as it is much more secure and more easily moderated) and later on trade it off for the same amount of points and begin trading again.
