HMM: Dark Messiah. That game could have been absolutely incredible. But, the character models, the combat, the levels and graphics were just awful. The story was blandy mcbland from blandy mcblandistand. Just playing it for about the 2 hours I did, I saw that it had a lot of potential, but was just wasted or implemented poorly.

Too Human is on this list for me too. It has great concepts and great ideas and an interesting story, but was turned into a train wreck of game that is almost completely unplayable and totally frustrating.

Warhammer 40000: Fire Warrior.

A W40K FPS is possible and if done right could be epic!

It may not be fps but its the closest so far. I especially like one of the comments.

LA Noire.

The facial mo-cap they did was wasted when their actors had seizures whenever lying while being perfectly fine when not. Searching for clues could have been fun and interesting but it ends up with 5 relevant clues and twenty empty beer bottles, and if something irrelevant isn't obviously irrelevant, your character has a sixth sense to say, aloud, that it is irrelevant. Also painfully bad driving thrown in for absolutely no reason to further ruin any mood the game was setting.

Primal on the PS2 was one of the best idea's Ive seen but it was full of glitches and horrifyingly slow movement. Also you controlled 2 characters and if one ran too far you had to switch back and walk a little bit, then switch back. A nightmare but a freaking awesome idea.

For me, it's a tie between Dark Void, the Darkness, and [Prototype]. All three had great concepts with some very interesting set pieces, but all three had major flaws in game (or story) that just made it fall flat. I was doubly disappointed by these games, just because I could tell how great they could have been.

Borderlands. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game but it would have been almost perfect with:

1. Weapon/equipment crafting but getting pats of guns and assemble them and put in mods, you can even take apart other guns and form them into others!
2. Have more creative weapons like a grenade launcher than launches anything from grenades to eggs of aliens who hatch in mid air and then attach to the face of the enemy and you watch as the enemy tries to pull it off just to have it decapitate him/her.
3. More active abilities and not just traits.
4. More epic boss fights like the rakk hive where there's a giant beast and you bring him down with a pistol.
5. Shooting should feel less like COD.
6. Also, more clap trap and more ridiculous dialog/content!

May get hate for this...but (so far at least) Minecraft.

There's just so many feature that could be added in lieu of a lot of the pointless updates it gets. The game world just feels empty after awhile to me...

Bioshock could have been a lot better but the combat was clunky and the story was just ridiculous.

Actually, this. There are mods of villages and stuff and it seem cools to me because it would be fun to take over castles and maybe even make an economy system...

Also brink. Mainly because the parkour sucked.

Oblivion. It was a good game I'll admit however it was to long, to big and overall not enough time was spent on it. Also about halfway through I started wondering if my character just dropped from the sky because nothing ever really fleshes out who you are. I enjoyed it but I could of seen myself enjoying it a lot more if there had been more attention to detail.
if they spent more time on it? they spent four years on it

Brink for most potential story.
can't agree more. Gaa, had they just paid more attention to the story it could've been so good.
Ever seen the old Container city trailers from a few years back at the end there's a cut scene it had depth and interesting characters i wish that had made it into the final produced.
Container City demo? Yeah I remember that. I guess they got rid of the Half-Life style in-game cut scenes because of........uhh....

I don't know. People on the forums have been talking about why for a couple days now.

Well y first thought was time limits, but they could always start the clock after they'd done talking. My second thought was that there'd have to be a few AI members on the team to take the place of the characters who talk, but again, they could just go after the time starts. Who'd notice?

I wonder why they didn't. Instead of a multiplayer game with a guise of having a single player style story, it could've been the single/multi meld that they so often talked about.

I bought the game for the multiplayer. and i am still enjoying the multiplayer very much, but playing through the game you get pieces of the story and think wow there was so much they could have done with it.

The F.E.A.R. series had so much potential. A creepy Carrie/Ringu esque girl with psychic powers? An army of clone soldiers, controlled by a telepathic hive mind? Secret conspiracies? All from the guys who brought us the Condemned games? Sign me up! Unfortunately, it did not work well at all. I really do not know why either. Monolith knows horror. They proved that with the Condemned series. So, how could they mess up such a promising premise, not once, but twice? It could have been so much more, but in the end, it was nothing special. *sighs*

I phrased that wrong, would be more accurate to say if the spent more of that time ironing out the creases and less of it on the immense scale of the whole thing.
