Of this past gen of Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2 and XBox; the XBox was the worst console for me. Why? it only had 2 exclusives that were worth it: Halo, Kung Fu CHAOS. If XBox didn't have Halo, it would be dead right now.
Dreamcast might have been a failed system, but Sega is a great game developer, and they were working in house. Dreamcast's list of exclusives was pretty good. (I did not have a DC, but my friend did)
Sony got it right by being a cheap DVD player that can also play video games. Not to mention Sony's game development team (Jax, Ratchet, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus just to name a few)
Nintendo practically said that the Gamecube is not a home entertainment system, and they didn't try to be an entertainment system. They made a video game system. People said that the Gamecube was a children's video game console, and that was because the console didn't focus on sports and FPS. The console didn't focus on the gore factor. What people don't realize is that Nintendo never focused on that. They wanted to be family friendly (Mortal Kombat anyone? no blood?)
They made quality games in house, but pretty much all developers wanted to make games with blood, sex and violence (truly a sad era in video game history).
Xbox wanted to make a console with as much blood, sex and violence as possible. They were not a kid's toy, and they were asking developers of blood sex violence games to come and make games. (DoAXBV was one of the Xbox's top selling games). All other consoles could sell and make games that didn't focus of blood sex and violence. Were the games bad? no. Were the graphics bad? no. Was it the best console? no, but all of the Halo fans will disagree.
They say the Gamecube sucked because it didn't have Halo, and to be honest the Xbox would have failed if it didn't have Halo.
a good console is measured by the number of quality exclusive games it has, and Xbox only had 5. (Halo, Dead or Alive, Kung Fu Chaos, Ninja Gaiden, Halo 2)
