I'm not sure how you can, as it was a group of gamers - the minority no less - trying to get Infinity Ward to make their version of the game better than the others. Don't get me wrong, I'm as annoyed as anyone about the lack of dedicated servers, but it's by no means a good cause.
Considering all the talk of hackers, aimbots, people shooting through the walls and people seeing through the terrain I hear about for the PC version which they can't take care of on their own as they could with a dedicated server admin, I would posit that it was a good cause for PC Gamers.
I would also argue that having dedicated servers on consoles would also be a good thing were that at all possible. Share the love and all that. You've said yourself that dedicated servers would make the game better. How is asking Infinity Ward to make the game better anything except a good cause?
Whilst having support for colour blind players is important, you're saying having a stable connection, an increased player count and the ability to decide which game you want to join is not?
The consoles are way behind on getting dedicated servers, which are actually quite cheap from what I've been gathering by talking to owners of various servers.
What's stopping all the console games from getting dedicated servers?
OT: I personally have red-green/blue yellow color blind disorder, so I think this is a great idea, though I don't personally plat the game. The only problem is that there are so many types of colorblindness that they could never account for them all...
I don't care what color the teams are, but it's silly to go and demand IW cater to handicapped people. If they want to do that, that's up to them, but I don't find this a particularly worthy cause.
I might be more inclined to support it if it were about giving free copies of the game to terminally ill cancer patients. Even then it'd just be silly, 'cause IW isn't responsible for them.
Plus, are there not other ways to distinguish between the teams besides color?
I drove my preschool and kindergarten teachers crazy because I learned to read before entering preschool (thanks to my mom's hard work), but colored water purple on coloring assignments, and cried when they told me that's not the color of water. 10-11 years later, I got confirmation that I had a high R-G deficiency. 4-5 years later, I'm still pretty certain that blue and purple are the exact same color and that everyone in the world is fucking with me.
Anyway, thought I'd make a list of games that you're FUCKED if you try to play with R/G deficiency:
Zuma-The balls have different patterns, but when they're rolling fast it's impossible to tell. I stopped after 4th temple because there was yellow and green which fooled me, pink and...some color that I still don't know what it really is (looks pink to me, think someone told me it was purple), and something else.
ShadowRun-The colors from the two teams looked absolutely identical. I had to get two tech upgrades everytime just so I knew who was on my team and who wasn't. Booted from most servers after killing damn near everyone, friend or foe.
Hexic HD-Yes, colorblind option was useful and thoughtful on Hexic developers part. But, like someone else on here said, when the bombs started dropping, they didn't follow through with the symbol. So you spent all your time trying to get the damn greens lined up to get rid of what you thought was a green bomb, only to find out that it was yellow. KABOOM!
I'm sure there are many others I've been frustrated with, but those are the ones that come to mind at the moment. I've never really blamed developers. It just seems an unfortunate situation. Developers have a whole mound of issues that affects everyone, and the 8-9% of people that have a form of colorblindness, I feel, shouldn't be at the top of their list. However, the idea that beta testers should include someone who is R-G deficient (the most common one among males) is pretty neat and simple to do.
More on topic, I've been playing MW2 pretty consistently since release, and haven't really had a problem with it. The people do have different skins, and I just look over the scoreboard at the beginning and make note of who's on my team and who's not. I even want to say that I can tell a slight difference in the name color tones (odd seeing as I'm pretty high up on the color-blindness scale), but maybe it's just my imagination (or something else with my brain. The science behind color deficiency is ridiculously intense.) Still, I heavily support this for those that do have a problem with it. The maker of the petition doesn't sound like "This should have been caught early on and developers should be ashamed of themselves for not thinking of colorblind people". It's a polite way to ask for a fix that makes an experience more enjoyable to seem people. Though to be honest, I doubt I'll turn it on if it gets implemented. I'm used to it being the way it is.
Well... retards have WoW, sexually ambiguous people have Final Fantasy, quadriplegics have the Wiimote and ducktape... I don't see any harm with a G-R switch.
Oh yes, this "good cause" will certainly be taken seriously by our friends at IW. I'm also sure that a certain Mr. Bowling will personally make sure of that, just like the last petition:
"Definitely made a big wave, and the response will not be ignored. I'll ensure everyone at IW sees the petitions and responses to it."

I bet there's mod for this already or will be in the near future
Nope, not happy at all, which is why, and this is the important part, I didn't give them my money. If you bought the game, you legitimised their behaviour, simple as that.
