Same way any improvement to the game that creates a more skill-based and consistent playing field will make the game better?
I could use the same argument for dedicated servers for PC gamers. But hey, to each his own.

How do these people drive?

Pretty good idea though, I guess it must get so annoying after a while.

I have Red/Green color blindness but its not like we can distinguish between the 2. Its just tuff to see the difference in purple/blue and yellow/green. It totally sux balls when they make the indicators yellow and light green >.<

But this certainly a reasonable request. a tiny code patch to change the color isnt hard. But knowing how greedy IW has become its probably not "cost effective" to cater to 10% of the gamer populations. <.< (yes im a PC, and this is out of spite! XD)
mm you might want to read one of the other articles on the Escapist on the costs of games development and reconsider calling IW "greedy"

(tho I can't say much in terms of Microsoft games studios haha)

but no, this petition is indeed reasonable and IMO worthy of taking time to sign and hope for something to come out of it =)
O i've read it. it cost them about $50 million to make the game. which anyone not living under a rock the pass 2 years will know they will recoup day one. the other costs comes from Activision and their ridiculous $200mil advertising, which paid in spades. The fact it will at most cost them an extra mil or two to add proper support to one platform, which in hindsight they could have charged $60 still, and double if not triple their sales on that side. GREEDY is the proper term sir if not a bit juvenile.

That point aside, i can support this petition since i am red/green color blind. tho in this case it doesnt affect me, I don't own the game :p
=) well actually that still makes 'greedy' not an entirely proper description (juvenile indeed)

yeah it wouldn't have been too much harder to create dedicated servers with extra anti-piracy measures created and latched on...taking away all of them would the somewhat lazier approach if anything (not that I really mind because I don't use the PC as my primary platform...)
or unless you really love custom mods and all that fun fun stuff

Gamer Petitions Infinity Ward for Color Blind Option in Modern Warfare 2

A petition has been started to get Infinity Ward to add support for color-blind gamers to Modern Warfare 2.

Color-blindness probably isn't something that you often think about in relation to videogames, but for the thousands of men and women it affects, it can be a significant hindrance when playing certain games, especially when playing online.

One such game is Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2, which uses red and green to differentiate between friend and foe. As red-green color-blindness is the most common form, this makes the game almost impossible to play effectively.

Helen Hodsey has started a petition [http://www.petitiononline.com/hodsey77/] on behalf of her color-blind husband, as well as a Facebook group and has already managed to reach the ears of Infinity Ward's community manager Robert Bowling on Twitter [http://twitter.com/fourzerotwo/status/6244421745].

While online petitions rarely make a great deal of difference, I'm hoping that this one gets plenty of coverage, because unlike certain other Modern Warfare 2 petitions [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.150774?page=1], it's for a very good cause.

I hope not to see another of these comments, directed at people who are genuinely upset about the practices of a company in the game industry, through a medium designed to interact with development, marketing and consumer/enthusiast fronts.

Need it be pointed out that Mrs. H and/or her husband could be playing on a dedicated server with a modded gametype just like the one being campaigned for (created by fellow consumers in their own free time no less) had the other party mentioned, now freshly alienated, been listened to?

YOu people need to realize that this is a fucking videogame; it's not like any of you are going to win something if you play it enough. Pretty soon we're going to see petitions for people upset because they keep getting shot in the game.

This is one of the most rediculous partitions I've ever seen, you dont even need to see red/green in order to play this online, all you need to know is which team you're on and what the guys you need to fill with lead look like. I sure as hell dont wait until the guy I'm aiming at shows a nice red name tag before I open fire, fuck there's even a perk so people cant see yours.

IW have treated the Pc market like shit with MW2, getting some actual service is more important then being too lazy to remember what the other team look like.

My friend is always whining about enemies being in red in the minimap because he can't see them.
But I remember some games have a colour-blind option you can select, and most games at least let you fiddle with some gfx options.

But if MW2 doesn't like ppl playing it's games because they don't support their particular disability it's their choice. Maybe also make an option so you can aimbot for people that are completely blind or terribly lazy?

I'm not agains color blinded people in any way, I even wish they get some way to work this out, but I really want this to stop here... I mean, if industry start caring TOO MUCH about this (as they do, sometimes, to avoid being sued or something), in one year there will be no games with color differentiation of anything, nor color puzzles, nor "red key opens red door" anymore...
That'll be a loss to everyone
You sir, win the great honor of being the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back for me. Long have I visited this site randomly and refused to put myself through the misery that is talking on forums about something I truly enjoy. Gaming.

After laughing hysterically at the awesome crowd poking fun at the trolling idiots, I had to stop, register, and make this post to ask you something. Do you watch Glenn Beck every day or something? If so, please take my advice and stop posting here. They will be on to you very soon. They will infiltrate your computer and steal your private data. The next thing you know you will be in jail for writing bad checks from banks that you never even belonged to.

I agree. This is one of those petitions I can full hearty understand.

I hope they implant this.
Ok... I have protanopic (the most severe kind possible)colour blindness, and I have no problems playing Call of duty 4 / MW2 whatsover. I can see fine, and I don't even take note of the colours. If someone walks in front of me and they don't have a name, I shoot them, they're hostile. Simple as that.
This petition in my opinion ( being one of the people "inflicted" with this "disease") is just bullshit and I don't support it one bit.
I've been playing games since I was aged 4 (I'm now 21) and colour blindness has only ever held me back in games once (goddamn you Adventures of Alundra).

Well good for you, Sparky. That doesn't help other people who want to... ENJOY their gaming experience a bit more at literally no expense to others.

I love this thread.. it is calling out all the people who think that they are so special despite their problems, that everyone has to man up and get used to pain. The parallels with any other taboo subject on an internet forum are just priceless.

Edit: 10 to 1 this asshat looked up color-blindness on wikipedia just to look smart...
Ye... no... you fail completely. This "asshat" as you so elegantly put it was diagnosed with protanopic colour blindness when he was roughly 8 years old and was having issues in primary school because of it.
I'm one of the people this topic represents. I am missing red cones in my iris so i have trouble differentiating between reds and greens and yet I have no trouble playing MW2.
I'm unable to become a fighter pilot or an electrician, but I can play Modern Warfare 2 just fine.

Gotta love living life through video games then... We are all here for that, surely. But specifically to kill people over and over again? Thanks for the bumper sticker on the back of your car that immediately tells me I never ever want to have to have a conversation with you. Not in fear of losing an appendage, but as an act of mercy. I wouldn't want to confuse you so much that your head would start hurting and you'd have to go torture an animal or something.

Well, that's where you're completely wrong. I have no interest in being a fighter pilot or an electrician. I'm a sound engineer, and I dont live my life vicariously through videogames.
I'm merely stating that even though I have the worst case of colour-blindness I don't have an issue and I don't understand what the petitioners issue is. You don't have to be a complete arsehole about it. I mentioned I struggled once through a videogame due to my colour blindness and suddenly I'm the type of person you don't want to have a conversation with? Are you just out to vilify me or do you have a serious chip on your shoulder?

Wow! Talking about Bias from the author of this news article. I think the people behind the PC petition had every right to complain considering that Call of Duty: MW's PC multiplayer was turned into shit compared to the PC multiplayer options in the first modern warfare.
That, my friend, is a bias.
Also, what is wrong with PtP? I understand that with dedicated servers you get to set the match to your liking, but you are still going to be playing with laggers and hackers, so its hardly different. I've PC gamed, so I would know. Dedicated servers changed the game in zero ways, so I am unconvinced.

Didn't even know who tat might be (of course I just googled him now and I now), and I don't have the patience of watching some boring videos on the political views of boring american journalist #348, so I'll assume you're calling me "extreme right" in some twisted way. Well, I guess political views are relative to what the observer is whinig about ("you don't think MY problem is the greatest in the universe, then you should be a Nazi/Communist - depending on your side of the fence")
