I have a hard time telling if all the __xXxLoNeSnIpEr420xXx__s are ironic or not. I hope so.
Someone I know legitimately named himself xX_sAmMaN69_Xx, (his name is samuel) and he's named himself something to do with sniping before. I don't think it's a joke, at least for the most part.

Anything to do with weed usually annoys me. It's like the only thing a person could think of about themselves was that they enjoy smoking weed. The egregious numbers, symbols, and capitalization is also stupid and incredibly hard to read; half the time I don't even know what to say over the mic to call the person. That's why my xbox live name is simply "Weentastic". It's original, its kind of an inside joke for me and my friends, and it sticks out remarkably well in a roster of 16 people whose names are all gibberish.

All the Xs and all the ones with Snipes in it. Also there are things that are common on XBL where it's random adjective + random noun = username.

Like Disturbed Tomato for example. Wat?
Ha I quite like that! My old AOL name was Runny Chicken (which, in retrospect, sounds a bit like a post-dinner toilet incident...).

- People who use leet speak.
- People who replace letters with numbers.
- People who use names of characters, with letters replaced by numbers.
- Overuse of X.
- 420 or 69.
- Any weed reference at all.
- Clans.

There are many more things that annoy me, but I can't think off the top of my head. But there are a few times when you look at someone's user name and just judge them on it. It's like email addresses.

Any name using leetspeak really. But that's a given.

Typically the ones that get irritating are some of the racial ones. stuff like XxXPin0y_pwn3rxXx or aznprnst@r or shit like that.

We get it. You're not white. That's cool and all, but do you really put so much stock in your race that you want it to be a primary component of what others use to identify you? You're literally making the racist player's arguement FOR them.

Same thing with anything 420 related.

Anything with 'lol', 'noob' or 'pwn' in it will make me rage a little inside. Notable exception is Lulzy for whom I have a soft spot:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/shamusplays/6993-Shamus-Plays-LOTRO-Part-1

Mostly I just feel sorry for people with overly generic or vulgar names. I'm sure their experience is worse than my own.

I think a bit of baroque window dressing is fine, no harm in a few xXx's or swirly ASCII art. Pro-tip: You are not meant to pronounce it.

I even tip my hat at the sight of well done 1337 speak, it's such a rare thing to the point that it's almost classy now.

Numbers, accents, umlauts and scandinavian characters is just a way to get around the requirement of unique user names. It looks ugly but if all pronouncable letter combinations are taken what is a gamer to do?
But there is a reason that names like Legolas, Darth Vader and Stalin is prohibited, people who bypass those restrictions with the use of accents or numbers deserve public ridicule.

So basically we will have to do the [Witty adjective][Noun] routine? You people mock those usernames but you guys are not actually any "funny" or "refreshing". Your usernames are also pretty much annoying - I just chose to ignore it because FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS! or something like that. I admit mine isn't that special or "unique" but I don't see a problem with that.

How many people have internet access right now? When my generation starts having real jobs and families, mortgages and minivans we will have MILLIONS of kids and teenagers on the internet PLUS the footprint their parents left. Assuming those accounts are never deleted... we will start taking every available username that makes sense.

So if I use xXElPatronXx or ElPatron_x3 it's because someone took ElPatron and I won't be changing my callsign just because of ONE game I can't use it in.

Also, multi accounts.

Anything that you can't say out loud convincingly is a terrible username. How are you supposed to feel any character and personality coming from a person named *xxxh4rdc0r3Kn0bl1ck3rxxx* or some bullshit?
>character and personality from an online adversary

What the tits, man? You're doing it wrong. Not only their personality is usually "childish"/"mental issues"/"quiet" (pick two), but you don't want your opponent to have personality. You have to dehumanize them until you stop feeling sorry for remembering them they suck at live and draw caricatures of them with huge bellies and neckbeards like the Nazis did with noses in their hate propaganda.

Okay I went too far with that. You don't need personality in online gaming, if you want it you will get what's coming for you and you'll regret it.

Any names with numbers in them. It's worse if the numbers replace letters (i.e. DRIV3R), but even names with numbers at the end annoy me (i.e. Blahblah18). If Blahblah is already taken, why not choose something more original instead of putting a number beside it?
Also those xX____Xx, as many pointed out, and those that voluntarily misspell actual words (i.e. Teh or Da instead of The)

But if you can't get the username you wanted, obviously you should just think up something completely different because someone else thought of it already, and everyone needs to be a unique and original snowflake and why would you want to share a username with somebody else even though it's entirely impossible to be completely unique and there's a good chance that any username you can come up with, someone else will think of as well.

Why do we keep getting so many threads about "Blah blah blah that you hate?" You know what? That's what I hate. I hate all of the threads that are complaining about "[blank] you hate!" I don't usually get annoyed by pointless hyperbole, but "hating" usernames? Really? I hate the people who are devaluing the impact of the word "hate". It's not enough anymore, it's lost all of its meaning.

For the record, for the people in this thread who apparently don't even like numbers being in the names, this is my username because I picked it when I made my first e-mail account something like eleven years ago and I've stuck with it since then, because at the age of nine I wasn't exactly a super-genius who was ready to come up with an amusing, clever name that might have been less-than-easy to memorize. I have a hard enough time keeping track of the various passwords I have to use for everything.

Captcha: "laugh at me" ... well now, have some self-esteem issues, do you SOLVEmedia?

The most stupidest one?: GAYANDPROUD6969.

Wow.

The worst one?: xXPredatorx69Xx.

I sent him a message which said: "You have the most douchebag gamertag I have ever seen."
He then sent me a message which said: "no you havnt"

My most hated one?: xxxxxMax97xxxxx.

The more 'x's the more I hate.

And anything with:

'Assassin'
'Ninja'
'Samurai'
'Scope'
'Optic'
'Sniper'
'Girl'
'x'

Leetspeak, abuse of the letter X and alternating between capitalized and non-capitalized letters seems to be the quickest way to make a stupid username that is also unpleasant to look at.
Very much this.

Besides, names like "MasterOfEvilDoomOfDarkness" or "ShadowLordOfMightyPain" are really ridiculous. There is no need to shove into other people's faces just how evil and 'badass' you are, and how much everyone should be afraid of you.
Edit: I call this phenomenon the 'MapleStory Syndrome', by the way.

So, we've all reached a point in our lives, when we saw somebody's username online, and said to ourselves, 'Shit, I hate those names!'

I mean, what is it with the obsession with the letter X?

Every time I log on I see XX-Insert name here-XX Or weird letters placed in the word.
And the abundance of the following:
Toxic
Sniper
Magik
Assasin

As a full innuendo, we all see names like 'Xx I ToxIIczz v xX' or some shit like that. It really annoys me.

So yeah anyway rant over.
Pretty much this.

If I had to pick one, I'd say this guy [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view] has a pretty horrid one.

That or the ones that directly reference a game, especially when it's not the game I'm playing.
I hate trick links like that. I'm too stupid to see it's a joke at first. :(

OT: I'm agreeing with the xXxX_____XxXx crowd, and anything involving odd capitalisation or 1337sp44k.

If you can't pronounce it out loud, you can't read it, and therefore you've decided to put what may as well be Martian hieroglyphics in your name box for all the good it does people.
