Games becoming too short?

I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. Games are not getting shorter. When the hell did you play a 40 hour FPS on the PSone? Games are not getting shorter, they are staying the same length. Hell, most action games on the SNES you could beat in one sitting (pretty much any beat-'em-up on the SNES and before) but you're complaining about 8-12 hour campaigns?
I guess I just think that an action based game would get completely tedious and ridiculous after the first 15 hours or so.

Long games are the problem, not short games. Padding what should be a 20 hour game with 10+ hours of bullshit doesn't make it any more satisfying to play.
Then the problem is not in the game, but the developers who don't have ideas for a fun story.

Keep in mind that on the old console games pretty much resembled what you could find in arcades, mostly. It was obvious that you can't be in an arcade for 15 hours just to finish one game. And if it was a more complex game in the NES or SNES the problem was the save feature (or lack of thereof).
About action games...it depends, often there's an action game that you do almost the same thing over and over and it's still fun, and in others it's tedious. It depends on the overall appeal of the game. If the design is good, the game fun to play most of the time and you can save and return to it later at any moment, then would a couple more hours really hurt that bad?
For me the singleplayer campaign in Gears of War could be 5 hours longer and I wouldn't be bored at all. Same goes for Call of Duty 4 and Mirror's Edge (especially you!).

Fable 2 to me is the worst game I've played when it comes to replayability. It's supposed to be an RPG, there is really nothing else to do but the main story line, and once you finish, you play for another hour, get enough money to buy all the houses, and you're done! Shortest "RPG" I've ever played.
Nothing else to do?
So there's no Temple of Shadows, no Real Estate, no Gargoyles, no sidequests like the one where you get to reanimate Lady Gray, no Demon Doors, no assassination jobs?

I am in agreement, im starting to see no point in buying games anymore, the last 3 games I bought (dead space, RE5, Resistance 2) I had finished the campaign in the same amount of time i would have if i had merely rented it.

Multilayer inst really an issue for me, as i have a gaming pc, and console multi player feels slow, the controls are sloppy, and the graphics are worse.

Yes games are getting shorter, but if you play on the easy difficulty you shouldnt expect 20 hours of gameplay, when I played Call of Duty 2 (best Call of Duty ever), I played it on veteran because I am hardcore, I tokk almost a weak to beat, it was tough and challenging, but when I played it on easy to get an achivement, it took 1 sitting.

Also Think about how many hours you play in 1 sitting, when GTA 4 came out my brother played it almost 12 hours a day for 4 days then bitched about it being too short when he finished, I then had to remind him he pluged almost 50 hours into it, try reevalutaing your sittings

As for speeding through games I call that being a *****, Ive seen a video where someone beats the main story in oblvion in 8 min, thats impressive, but its hardly the way to play

I agree, I have to put the difficulty on the highest possible for a campaign/main quest to last more than 2 days.

I might be exagerating a little bit on the time, it may have been under 15 mins or something, but thats still impressive, but he uses the paintbrush tick and lots of tricks but no MODS

In a real RPG like Oblivion, there are many more meaningful quests to do after the main quest. In Fable2, I already got all the gargoyles, whats the point of assassination missions when there is nothing to make money for? I already bought all the houses, but again what is the point when there is nothing to make money for? I finished the demon doors within a half hour of finishing the game, I finished the side quests within a week, found all the keys. Oblivion I have played for 150+ hrs and I still can find stuff to do. To get almost all achievements in an "RPG" like Fable 2 supposedly is in a week, to me, is much to short. Worth a rental, but easily finish everything in a week.

they do, its just that they save the ends for DLC, so that they can make an extra buck or 2, without having to take the extra time during the development to finish and test those pieces of content before release.

its lack of replayability doesn't hinder the fact that the game is really fun the first time around though.

Best example is Wanted: Weapons of Fate. I loved the game, even though games based on movies generally suck. It had some nice gameplay elements and the action was SICK!!! But it only lasted about 4 hours on HARDEST difficulty! Seriously, WTF!!! Only four hours!!!!

Thats not the discussion, the topic is are games becoming too short. As a so called "RPG" Fable 2 is wwwaaaayyyyyto short. Especially compared to games like Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I don't think they are. I'm well into 40 hours of Fallout 3, I played Mass Effect twice and racked up 40 hours. There are just some genres that should not be long. 8-10 hours is perfect for a shooter, while RPG's tend to drift around 20+.

Personally, I hate long games. They just begin to feel long and dragged out to me.
