Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

final Fantasy 7, pretty much a good mix of basic Turn base, with good Cut Scenes, none of that fancy CGI we all come to hate

Banjo Kazooi

Rare, I love the N64 one...why did you leave Nintendo, and 2nd, Grabbed by the Ghoulies....you guys are dead to me

They're all classics sure, but not cult classics.

I use this definition: "A work of fiction that is extremely popular with a select audience but may or may not be successful at the time of the work's original publication".

See now all of those you mentioned were EXTREMELY successful (minus maybe Banjo Kazooi which I wouldn't say "EXTREMELY") and aren't cult classics really.

I guess your right...how about Morrowind. I mean its fun, but hard, so only the brave may tred its swampy lands

Golden Sun series? I'm not sure if that really counts.
How about...

The original megaman series? They have a rather cult-ish following. I love them.

Majesty. A fantasy RTS in which you don't have direct control over the heros that populate your realm, and have to bribe them into doing their jobs with bounties while managing your town. There's also a sequel that's mostly improved gameplay-wise but lacks a lot of the charm.

I made an account after reading this thread because this disscusion is right up my alley.
This is a long list by the way.
In no particular order:
This is a difficult list to put together by the way, there is a very fine line between obscure, classics' and
"cult classic"
Also note that I do not know ALL of them, just A LOT of them

Grim Fandango
Psychonauts
Beyond good & evil
X-Com
System Shock 1 & 2
Balder's Gate 1 & 2
Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2
Sam and max: Hit the Road
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark forces 1 & 2
Fallout 1 & 2
Space Quest
King's Quest
Ultima Games
Diskworld 1 & 2
Painkiller
Master's of Orion 1 & 2
Phantasy Star: Online
Mother 1 & 2 (aka: earthbound 0 & Earthbound)
God Hand
Killer 7
Eternal Drakness: Sanity's Requiem
Timesplitters: 1, 2 & 3
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
Jet Grind Radio and Jet Set Radio Future
Soul Blazer trilogy
Blood
Deus Ex
Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2
Myst (even though they haven't aged well at all)
Clock Tower games
Tribes
Call Of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Wing Commander 1 & 2 and it's spinoff
Privateer
Legacy of Kain (maybe)
Monkey Island 1-3
Day of the Tentacle
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Ico
Planscape: Torment
Betrayal at Krondor (this game DEFINES the the term cult classic in gaming, if you haven't heard of this game, shame on you, everyone who has played this game considers this game the BEST rpg ever made in video games)

That are some games missing or some games on the list that aren't considered cult classics.
I might add some games later if I feel like it but it's hard to list games that aren't so much cult classics but are just "classics".

Edit: Zork is a good one.

Big Rigs- Over the Road Racing, even though it sucks in every way.
I think Crackdown 1 will eventually be considered somewhat of a cult classic, even if it's sequel slightly ruined it's legacy.

Scrolling down to the post box without looking at the thread, I'm predicting SH2, Psychonauts and Planescape torment within the first 5 posts.

Edit: 2 out of 3 correct and the last one on the same page.

Moder Warfare 2 by far one of the most under-rated games of the current gen.....

HA!

In all seriousness go grab a copy of Killer 7, though not completely obscure, it was missed by quite a lot of people. Also If you can find it I still think Total Annihilation never really got the glory it deserved even though it's fantastic!
really you could append that statement to anything by Suda51 since he seems to just make such weirdly cool games like No More Hero's 1 & 2 ( i am the only person i know who has even seen the games let alone bought them in my town )

also out the the games i have not seen mentioned yet ( dont rage if i just missed one from the list ) Breath of Fire II a lot of people considered a cult classic, and Darwinia which is by the same company that made Uplink is one of the very unknown games that has a rabid fanbase of those who played it
