Okay, fair enough... sorta. I concede I'm highly bias against Final fantasy. Ya, in the early games, they were super simple in terms of story, and I could actually enjoy some (3 the best), but the turn based gameplay gets old fast, and really, I get bored after with it. Fire emblem for the GBA was the furtherest I trended into turn based and actually finished the game satisfied. But the recent final fantasy's are just on an unnecessarily large scale of weird shit that crosses the line between creative to just bogus.Defense said:snip
agreed, opinions are different and it is a matter of taste but how you acquire the taste can make all the difference, which was the point I was trying to make. which is why i was surprised to see...s69-5 said:Um, he's just stating his opinion (which is both allowed and valid). In the same way ocarina of time was original when it came out and introduced some never-before seen/done mechanics and storytelling and whatnot, Half life 1 was to first person shooters a completely different take. it was the first shooter in which you could feel immersed and the game itself was unfolding the story with scenes that convinced you of the world that you tore apart when you've put that crystal in the beam.
before half life 1, shooters were all monsters, guns, ammo.. and sometimes tits (duke nukem) and any hints of story were through either the booklet that came in the box or some cheezy cutscene.
hl had scripts.. loads of'em.
trouble with half life 2 is that it stepped away from that and it was made more like show and tell instead of storygrip. + you've seen every innovative element in the trailers that just showed you the entire game before release rly..
edit: tldr: unless you could become a gamer from 1998 and have the same feeling that compelled you to awe at the exciting quality and innovation behind the memorable games that came out at the turn of the century.. OFC you don't get it.. and you never will. + most game genres are an acquired taste
I love me some Final Fantasy, but I see that it figures in this thread on more than a few occasions. All I can say is, people's taste vary greatly. No need to be offended. Some people don't like FF. Some people (like me) don't like HL (or any FPS for that matter).
OP:
Dragon Age: Origins.
The FPS genre as a whole.
Grand Theft Auto series.
I guess I might have put a strong emphasis on what I was writing due to my experience with the game, having played it when it came out. I was certainly not saying my =>opinionargument<= as to why my thinking was in the right place.Well i'm terribly sorry for having a different opinion than you. I bow down to your superior opinion.
