Okay, fair enough... sorta. I concede I'm highly bias against Final fantasy. Ya, in the early games, they were super simple in terms of story, and I could actually enjoy some (3 the best), but the turn based gameplay gets old fast, and really, I get bored after with it. Fire emblem for the GBA was the furtherest I trended into turn based and actually finished the game satisfied. But the recent final fantasy's are just on an unnecessarily large scale of weird shit that crosses the line between creative to just bogus.

But but as far as gameplay, couldn't they at least transition into a sorta Kingdom hearts kinda thing? sure thats a button mashing cousin to turn based, what with all the menus and the characters are for the most part the same in many cases, but your actively part of the combat, and its much easier to get involved in the game then to half the turn-based combat break the action of some climactic battle every encounter.

Modern Warfare 1 & 2 and Medal of Honor, not because of the 12-year old playing Xbox Live maggots but because the game didn't feel all that realistic to me. Even after playing on the hardest modes it still felt like the characters stared at you and talked like a statue with only their mouths moving. I mean random small motions like stretching or looking away or something would've made it feel better.

Anyways that and I don't see what all the hype was about.

I don't get the hate for CoD to be honest, so I'll just sit quitely in the corner.

I never saw what was quite so amazing about Team Fortress 2. It's good, but nothing particularly inspiring. Valve gets far more love than I think it deserves to be honest.

You see, CoD has an excellent control scheme and runs very smoothly (offline at least), so it's quite immersive (I see immersion similarly to Yahtzee recently stated, where you stop thinking about the mechanics of the game). So, although I may get lynched for this, I prefer CoD (especially WaW) to TF2.

Oh dear, I just said I liked CoD but not so much TF2, and then used Yahtzee to back up my point. That's right everyone, I'm trolling (I'm not) I'm a 1337 simpleton.

Halo -- Halo 3 and Halo: Reach specifically. Halo was a nice fun game, the multiplayer was fun -- it's like they took golden eye's multiplayer, gimped it, updated the graphics then released it. Halo 2 built very well on what Halo did, introducing some new options to the game. Halo 3 to me did nothing to revolutionize FPS games. Reach is just Microsoft trying to milk the cash cow until it dries out.

Any and all sports games: If you want sports go play fantasy football, or watch ESPN or something. I play video games to escape reality.

MMORPGers, especialy World Of Warcraft. The lack of a definitive ending robs the experience of any real purpose for me.

Bioshock. I hated that game. It was boring, had simple gameplay, weak story, and I didn't like the setting. I don't know why people love it so much. It's just an average shooter to me.

Final Fantasy. The combat system is stupid, just flat out stupid. Couple that with my hatred for all things anime and you have the most over-rated game of all time.

Every single valve game. Seriously everyone seems to praise them. Portal 2 was weird and had a horrible antagonist that everyone loves and I just can't see why. TF2 was just a basic shooter. And Half-Life, oh Half-LIfe I will never understand the greatness of these games. Boring main character, no memorable characters, bland gas masked enemies.

Halo series, I don't need to explain why, read previous posts.

Gears of War, pretty much same reason for Halo. But even worse. Seriously the main character has not only the most try-hard badass name, but he has the most bland personality, a voice that makes me cry, and the armour, is all that really necessary? Why does he have radios speakers on his chest?

Darksiders. Like God of War/Devil May Cry but...worse in every way.

Half life
I seriously feel the need to reply to such a post..
In the same way ocarina of time was original when it came out and introduced some never-before seen/done mechanics and storytelling and whatnot, Half life 1 was to first person shooters a completely different take. it was the first shooter in which you could feel immersed and the game itself was unfolding the story with scenes that convinced you of the world that you tore apart when you've put that crystal in the beam.

before half life 1, shooters were all monsters, guns, ammo.. and sometimes tits (duke nukem) and any hints of story were through either the booklet that came in the box or some cheezy cutscene.
hl had scripts.. loads of'em.

trouble with half life 2 is that it stepped away from that and it was made more like show and tell instead of storygrip. + you've seen every innovative element in the trailers that just showed you the entire game before release rly..

edit: tldr: unless you could become a gamer from 1998 and have the same feeling that compelled you to awe at the exciting quality and innovation behind the memorable games that came out at the turn of the century.. OFC you don't get it.. and you never will. + most game genres are an acquired taste
Um, he's just stating his opinion (which is both allowed and valid). Remember, not everyone is going to like the things you like.

I love me some Final Fantasy, but I see that it figures in this thread on more than a few occasions. All I can say is, people's taste vary greatly. No need to be offended. Some people don't like FF. Some people (like me) don't like HL (or any FPS for that matter).

OP:
Dragon Age: Origins.
The FPS genre as a whole.
Grand Theft Auto series.
agreed, opinions are different and it is a matter of taste but how you acquire the taste can make all the difference, which was the point I was trying to make. which is why i was surprised to see...

Well i'm terribly sorry for having a different opinion than you. I bow down to your superior opinion.
I guess I might have put a strong emphasis on what I was writing due to my experience with the game, having played it when it came out. I was certainly not saying my =>opinionargument<= as to why my thinking was in the right place.

i feel what i wrote was both my personal opinion to the game itself and to how my reasoning works in saying as much.

you can write what you like and dislike.. but don't give arguments as to why "i never understood that game" cause said game was "x". you might feel that way.. but trust me.. how you ended up to that conclusion compared to others invalidates whatever you say after the word "because".

and knowing this, since most people agree on opinions not counting as labels.. makes this thread kinda useless unless making a club for "people who don't get X" is worth a damn.

on that note..

to be very OT: I always disliked playing Final Fantasy, even though I tried FFVII and VIII from a friend.. but due to their popularity and quite amazing fan-base I've admired it as the staple of JRPGs it is.

note:what's the point of "i never got/i hate X" topics?.. hmm maybe that should be a title for a thread.. owel.

Minecraft. Seriously, it's been done better. I'm not going to say in which game, because people would get tired of me banging on about it.

But it has tame grizzly bears trained exclusively for war.

Badass warriors who fight to their last breath, with half their body torn away.

Flaming lakes of magma, which you can tap for your own questionably moral ends...

and MORE freedom and detail than Minecraft ever has had, or ever will have.

OK, maybe it's a bit obvious which game I'm talking about. But it annoys me that the creator hasn't got nearly the same recognition, despite appearing to've worked MUCH HARDER on a MORE AMBITIOUS project. I get why people like Minecraft. I do. I don't understand why they lurrve it.

Half Life 2. It's a bland game with bland nonthreatening enemies and a two cliche stories mixed together and crammed into one bland, non-compelling narrative taking place in a bland environment, with the main character being the 20 time nominee and winner of the bland awards.

I think this thread really shows why sticking to a genre you like is important, but that sub-genres are important as well. A CoD fan hates Bioshock or the original Deus Ex and visa versa. JRPG fans hate Baldur's Gate and Fallout while the opposite again is true.

I admit. I loved Bioshock, Baldur's Gate, Halo: Combat Evolved, Fallout 3, and Morrowind.

Conversely, I dislike every other Halo, CoD 4 (just not for me),the modern Final Fantasies (the NES ones were good).

And the exceptions that prove the rule: I loved Golden Sun and the original AVP and Unreal Tournament

Seriously half the people in this thread are just trolling

E.g. fallout 3
Bioshock
shooters on a console
zelda

Any game that is popular. Nope, nope, nope it's not as good as a crappy game that came out 15 years ago that isn't comparable that isn't even in the shame genre and appeals my very specific sub genre taste, I am right and you're wrong.

[/the mindset of half the people in this thread]

If you don't get a popular game, maybe stop thinking about it in a close minded fan boy way

OT: Pac man. 255 levels of boredom. I can understand it's one of the oldest actual video games but people saying it's the greatest game ever? It's boring by today's standard plus space invaders was better
