To tell the truth, I was half joking. That entire mini-rant above came from me finally getting my hands on the book last year and seeing the similarities in the two. Of course, that could be said for any story that includes powered armor. Starship Troopers was written almost 60 years ago and is more or less a classic. If I compiled a list of sci-fi that, directly or indirectly, borrowed from Heinlein (or that Heinlein borrowed from), it'd pretty much include everything ever written. Also, I don't really know all that much about the Halo lore, as you call it, I only ever read Fall of Reach. So, sorta not-sorry half-apology over.HG131 said:What? Are you high?! That's 100% insane.hittite said:Halo is an obvious rip-off of Starship Troopers (the book more than the movie, but still some of both.)
P.S. Welcome to the Escapist. Stay out of The Basement, and I'd suggest looking up the forum rules so you don't anger the mods.Trust me, he's just insane. Go to Halopeida if you want to read up on the lore for free.Pararaptor said:How so? I know little of Halo's lore, but just about all of Starship Troopers.hittite said:Halo is an obvious rip-off of Starship Troopers (the book more than the movie, but still some of both.)You just chose bits and pieces of the stuff and ignored most of the canon! SPARTANS are not gung-ho, the ODSTs (the ones normally dropped in) do not have "enough firepower to level a small city" and like I said, YOU IGNORED 99% OF THE LORE! Besides, you are citing Movie Bob for your opinion. Makes it even less credible.hittite said:Well, let's see, gung-ho space marines wearing half a truck's worth of powered armor and carrying enough firepower to level a small city each are dropped from orbit in metal coffins to fight an inscrutable and genocidal race of ugly aliens. Does this scene sound in any way familiar? The only way it could have been more obvious is if Sgt Johnson had used the "you wanna live forever" line.Pararaptor said:How so? I'll admit that Halo is not the first or the most obvious thief of the set-pieces of Starship Troopers, and heck, I'll even admit that it works pretty well. But I agree with Movie Bob on this, Halo really does play like a cross between the book and the movie. Not that that's really a bad thing, in fact I think they pull it off really well.
