I think all of assassins creed is great the mini-quests were cool running around and helping the civilians and killing guards for fun stealing extra blades from thugs.
damn straight. simply runing around was fun. i sometimes stab random people just to get the guards chasing me so i can run around. also there were a lot of fun missions before the assasination, despite the assasinations being the most fun to do

gears of war comes to mind
I have it for my computer, and i can say, that was the most repetitive gameplay i ever encountered.
Run to a specified place
bad guys pop out of ground
Duck, shoot, repeat

Any Valve game.

I fail to find what makes these games fun to other people.
Haha i just beat Half-Life 2 and the episodes on The Orange Box. I enjoy the short frantic combat followed by puzzle solving and so on. Of course that same reason I love it I can see being the turn off for other people.

Any RPG. It's the turn based combat and the fetch-quests. The only one I have ever enjoyed was Diablo II, but I do love that game. Well, Dark Alliance was pretty cool too, but that was also kinda casual.

But yeah, as soon as the game begins in an rpg I lose interest.

I mostly agree, mainly because I hate anything fantasy related. There are a few exceptions, though. Paper Mario and KOTOR come to mind.

So, wait.. you hate RPG's that have turn based combat and fetch quests? Or you hate all RPG's because you were misguided in the idea that they had to be turn based and have fetch quests?

And, do you think that RPG's have to be "fantasy related"?

I'm not sticking up for RPG's. I'm just kind of chuckling to myself because you guys are not even sure what they are, it would seem.

As for games that bore me.. games based off of physical sports, such as baseball or football bore me to no end, as do their real life counterparts.

Alright, I could be "mistaken" when I say rpg, but I mean anything like Final Fantasy or Oblivion. And even though Oblivion doesn't have turn based combat, it is still an rpg, and one that bores me stupid.

Although I do have an rpg to add to the list of the ones I like and that is Pokemon for the gameboy. That game rocks.

Most sims. When SimCity 2000 came out in the mid-90s, I liked it a lot. Played it a ton, and then got tired of the shtick. Zone the land, put power lines, add pretty stuff... And then, boom. Land value. All the later SimCity games, while more polished and slightly deeper, just feel like more of the same. When I got SimCity 3000, the gameplay definitely felt kinda blech and stale. Maybe it's just the SimCity series alone, but I tend to get bored pretty quickly for most simulation games.

Roller Coaster Tycoon was probably the only exception, just for the sake of making more custom roller coasters.

The same could be said of just about all video games...

What makes a video game a video game is that it allows you to do a specific thing, and I can't think of any games that let you do something different every chance it gets.

I amend the above statement. Grand Theft Auto could technically count as a game that would let you do something different every chance it gets, but I personally get bored with sandbox mode because there's nothing driving my actions anymore. In the linear storyline, however, it gets repetitive.

For instance, Portal - You go into a room, solve puzzles with portals. Go into a room, solve puzzles with portals and blocks. Go into a room, solve puzzles. Go into a room, solve puzzles with portals and blocks. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Hating a game for having a repetitive concept is like hating a pizza for having bread in it. A pointless waste.

The level design in Gears of War certainly isn't repetitive, and in all actuality there is more to Gears of War than running and shooting. There are several puzzle-like segments, such as the Berserker fights and the kryll levels, as well as the corpser boss battle.

I'm going to say xenogears. Yes it would be a great interactive storybook or a movie if it weren't for the fact that you had too keep mashing the x key just to go on. For me though the story was way too deep and needlessly complicated. I can understand how some might like it but when you mix every single rpg, epic, and anime cliche into one game then throw in a super large dose of confusing metaphysics. I think i would have liked it better if it was shorter because by the second cd I think I was checking email and msn while mashing x key just because I had either guessed, or just plain didn't care about the story anymore. I only finished it because I'm rather anal about finishing all games I start.

I found the game makes a great pro argument about getting turbo controllers.

Oh and all halo games. The later being worse. I just really hate copy and paste level design, and games where the only objective is to kill everything then go to the next room and kill everything. The formula works great for the first three hours but doesn't last much longer then that.

The multiplayer saves it a little bit, but frankly unless your hardcore competitive even that gets boring. I think that has more to do with the fact that it's the only freaking game anybody I know ever plays at gaming parties. Common can we please play something else.

Metal Gear Solid, any sports game. But I should quantify this by saying that I have played through all of Xenosaga (1, 2 and 3). I like RPGs a lot, especially the crazy japanese ones.

Sports games, every one is a remake of a remake of a... well you get the picture. Same gameplay repeated forever does not entertain me.

As for MGS, I find the sneaking around tedious because if you make any mistake you need to start over again, over and over.

Mass Effect.

It was so boring it prompted me to sell all of my 360 games except CoD4 and Halo 3.

I have since added GTA IV.

Once the random trash became harder than the bosses, it was all downhill from there.

Battlefield 2 Online.
Run to Jet, Get Teamkilled, Respawn.
So on and so forth I got majorly pissed off at that game.

Any game that requires I read more than I play. Shadow Madness (absolutely retched, buggy game) is one of those, especially since the endless books you're pressured into reading have absolutely no content. It's even worse if the game is badly translated to the point that the reading is a difficulty - so not only are you forced to read endless crap, but it hurts to look at the words.

And no, I'm not condoning rpgs or anything due to their novelesk appearance. I also consider having to read menu after menu after menu after menu to get anything done just as bad, if not worse in some cases.

If the creator is going to pull a game from the depths of his or her rectal regions and decide it should be like a mini book, they should at least make the writing interesting and not, as it usually is to me, a chore.

So yes; games that make me read more than play are the games that bore me the most.

Resistance and Halo 3.

Halo 3 had such potential to be on the scale of "Battlefield" - I mean, look at all the weapons and vehicles! Then I get "capture the flag" and only 16 players on some small sized maps? It's fun for a few hours but I don't see what keeps people hooked.

and resistance is just boring, the only things that feel like they aren't "artificial" are the aliens. I would have much rather wanted to play an alien and gunned down those lifeless shell's they call "Allies" or "Squadmates" in that crap game. It gets cooler when you get hedgehog grenades and things like that, but overall I can't push myself through it because it's just frikin' boring. I'll admit that Resistance 2 actually does look pretty promising and interesting, so it's good to hear that the first game did good so that the second could get some more money and work out the kinks.

Expansions to games that doesn't add anything new, but only ups the power level of everything. I always get bored with GTA games before I finish them as well.
