It surprised me, but Isara's plot twist in Valkyria Chronicles made me sad enough to stop me playing for the day. I just couldn't face it. I don't know why; it wasn't particularly well done. I didn't think I would be so easily affected.

Hmm, depressed is a strong word, but I think I get your meaning.

Will start off with GTA IV. First, I found the newer, more realistic feel of the game top be an improvement on the previous GTA titles so that didn't bother me at all. It was the ending though that really got me. When you had to make that choice (which you didn't know would have such terrible consequences at the time) which resulted in something truly awful happening it was bad enough. The game really got me down when it game to finishing off the final main story mission. Usually, when a GTA is finished it feels great to have th whole city laid out before you to do what you wish. When it came to that point in GTA IV however, it just wasn't the same. You may be free to do what you want around Liberty City but you had still lost somebody important to you and no matter how many vigilante missions or stunt jumps you did, you could never have them back.

Lost Odyssey. looked forward to it for bloody years and it was an EPIC FAIL! How do people like this crap. Just remake Final Fantasy VII i suppose. After all Final Fantasy VII is j-rpg perfection...
I for one liked Lost Odyssey which was all the more surprising as I tend to avoid JRPGs like a plague for the most part. Though that's a discussion for another topic, the one thing to say in closing:

Part of the advantage of LO over the FF games for me was actually have some comparatively sensible and plausible characters for once (that, and a drunken womanising mage :p), as opposed to the usual array of mainly teenage brats who in reality probably couldn't even function outside their bedroom let alone save the world. :)

I just felt that Lost Oddyseys dialogue felt EXTREMELY parched. I just didn't like it. I've been told I should have given it a chance farther than the second disc. but if it takes that long to get good, I don't want it.

World of Warcraft. Taking a break, only to realise you've just completely wasted a whole day.
Seconded, but this is about 1000000000 fold after you quit WoW, sucks to realize how much time I wasted... *sigh*

That and Shadow of the Colossus, just before the final boss fight, you know the part I mean.

In RPG's where you bond with the character then they die.
Slightly off topic, but I saw an AMV of a game, and it broke my heart for some reason! I think it was the music playing that did it. I just remianed silent for about a week, not eating or laughing. Strange times.

Nice avatar by the way.

Metal Gear Solid 2. The whole ending sequence was just so depressing. The only thing that allowed me to sit through it all was sheer awe in just how amazing it was.

Half-life 2 Episode 2: I'm pretty sure most people will know what i'm talking about.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Same as above.

STALKER: Clear Sky.

And I haven't even played it.

GSC did a great job with Shadow of Chernobyl, and was nice and loose with their players and all, then Clear Sky was released...

They included a five-install limit. StarForce DRM. Released a buggy (but that was expected) game, but seemed to almost disregard American bug reports. Released an even buggier game to the Russian market (they were guinea pigs).

I was ripped in half. Do I buy it because it's GSC? Do I not buy it because of the DRM? If I don't buy it, should I torrent it, even though it's GSC? Should I take it up with GSC and be all like, "Yo homeez, what iz up wit ur shitz wit da DRM????????????"?

I ended up not doing anything. When my computer gets upgraded, though, CS is as good as pirated. Bastards and their DRM...

World of Warcraft. Ain't nothing more depressing than a game that rewards you based on time spent instead of playing better, and furthermore punishes you when someone else spends even more time.

Not exactly depressed, but struck a cord with me as a child/adolescent.

Homeworld, when you return to Kharak, your planet, after the hyperspace core test, to find it devastated and aflame, with Agnus Dei in the background whilst it pans across the debris and the stricken world, a very moving moment... so kind of depressing, but not in a bad way.

the Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance games... They were so fun but i felt bad for what happened at the end of the first one and how there were still some storyline loops. A third game where another major alliance player throws his trump card would be terrific.

Any game with a Bad/good ending, if the bad ending appears I feel depressed I didn't do the best for the character... then I leave the game alone.
So, you didn't like it when the future refused to change? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oMXF9mzc38]

Anywho, E-102's ending in Sonic Adventure is still sad to me. Also in Mass effect, when I had to kill off Kaidan. There's been quite a few others, but I can't remember them at the moment.
