Just the unofficial patch which is available here really.
Warning: that mod actually changes the gameplay from the developers' intent.
Not really, or at least not offensively so. There should be an option that pops up on installing the mod to choose between a core experience and an 'expanded' experience. Not sure if those are the exact terms as it's been awhile since I myself last used it, but nothing extreme is changed on choosing the basic option and it's worth installing for the fixes it provides.

Obviously if someone wanted an absolutely 'pure' playthrough just using the developer patches and playing entirely without mods is an option, but aside from fixing a few game-stopping issues the official patches don't do much and the game is still a fairly buggy and flawed experience as a result. Myself, I'd say installing that fan-patch I mention above is worth it. There might be some slight changes even with their basic option, but even so it just allows for a smoother and more enjoyable experience.

That's my take anyway.

Its my favorite N64 game and everyone I know who's played it agrees that its one of the best out there. It had everything. Aliens, zombies, giant bugs, teddie bears, and it was gorey as hell.
You do realise that Rare went on to create Conker's Bad Fur Day, right? Which had ALL of those features you mentioned, and while not a dedicated third person shooter like JFG was, it ended up having better 3PS controls anyway? Not to mention it also had multiplayer, that you could deathmatch against teddy bear bots in, with blood and stuffing splattering everywhere?
Conker wasn't as fun to me. Plus, its like comparing Dead Space with Gears of War. Different game types

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine. It was a fun game, but I felt like it fell a just tad short of what it could have been.
and a tad short over all o.o.

it defiantly needed a last boss fight, not an out of nowhere QTE-a-thon

I'm going to say though ....

Other M needs a do over

fix the story so Samus isn't pathetic, fix Adam so we actually get WHY she respected him to begin with, and fix the missile system, yes it worked, but it still sucked.

also, put it on the 3DS :p

Well sorry- but it's the closest you're ever likely to get. Good to know that you know about it though.

Tenchu 1-2, i played the first way more than mgs.
Someone mentioned SR3, i`d like to see the second with the tech of the third. SR3 and THQ`s dlc practices killed the franchise for me.
Pilouu ( hope i got the spelling right)mentioned Grim Fandango :). All of the old Lucas Arts adventures, i love the MI 1-2 remakes. They have a constant place at my hdr.

Soul Calibur 5 the game could have been brilliant rather than just good. I really liked the combat in it (not as much as the original soul calibur but more than 2-4) and the character customisation is great even if it could have been expanded on a bit more like let me shape the characters face and more clothing options.

But the real reason it needs a do over is to put in all the missing content like character endings in arcade ,gallery, survival, team battle, options in battle (infinite time is missing) a chronicles of the sword/tower of trials/edge master mode the inclusion and choice to use different weapons that actually affect how your character plays, basically put in a decent single player experience, I also dont see why a simple stage creating tool could not have been included for fun play.

If they took the fighting mechanics of SC mixed in SC5s character cutomiser 4s weapons and 2 and 3s various modes and topped it off with an awesome SB type intro and arcade endings they would have an amazing game on their hands.

I am hoping there will be an ultimate edition but that would break SC tradition so I am not holding my breath.

I'd really like to see Mass Effect 1 done over with the more modern gameplay. ME1 is just not fun to play, at all, which is a shame since y'know, story and choices and new characters to play through the trilogy with.
Funny, I was going to say Mass Effect 2 to make it play more like Mass Effect 1, because ME2 is just not fun to play. There's more than enough shooters out there, and "gamers" really need to stop stealing all franchises to become shooters. Mass Effect just wasn't made for you.
Got to admit, I'm finding Mass Effect 2 a huge step down from Mass Effect 1, story and gameplay-wise. Still a great game, just not as good as the first

Command and Conquer 4 - Make it not suck.

Heroes of Might and Magic 4 - New World Computing had a ton of cool new ideas planned for this game but so much stuff got cut because of 3DO's bankruptcy. The RPG system was supposed to be much more extensive and complex. There was supposed to be artifact crafting and spell research. There were supposed to be a lot more diplomacy options. There was supposed to be variable size battlefields as well as new strategic options. You can actually see vestigial of some of the cut ideas like the blacksmiths and the prisons. The blacksmiths were supposed to be used for crafting artifacts and you were supposed to be able to ransom/interrogate/convert captured enemy heroes.

I'm probably going to get flamed to hell just for mentioning it here, but Sonic 06. Fix the bugs, the game-breaking glitches, the bullshit story, the terrible voice acting, polish up the graphics, and make it feel more like an actual playable game.

Restored Content Mod basically puts it what it was meant to be, there wasn't much past that.
If only. The Restored Content Mod only implements content that was, to some unfinished extent, already on the game disk and had already been worked on by the developers to some vague degree. Unfortunately modders, including those of the Restored Content Mod, quickly discovered references both in the game files as well as the cut dialogue and content that refers to entire segments that were never put on the disk; namely an entire planet named M7-48 and an overarching plot involving the GenoHaradan from the first Kotor among other smaller bits of content.

To their credit the people over at Deadly Stream who made the The Restored Content Mod are trying to put those back into the game as well in an upcoming mod, but they're more or less working from vague references and guesswork as opposed to the developers original intent. We'll never know fully what Obisidian's real intentions were.
You know what thinking back you're right, I hadn't played in so long I forgot that those weren't finished. I remember the plans for it and that's probably what made me remember wrong. Either way the mod does a great job, so I guess there's some other games I'd like to see get a do-over first, but yes you are right that'd be a good one.

I completely agree with this. As someone who grew up with Sonic games only to see the franchise butchered completely after Sonic Adventure 2, I would love to play another decent Sonic game again.

Actually lack of t/d and scrapping k/d ratios were things i commended that game for. Theres already a billion killwhore ego rubbing games out there, this game took the high road and based points on what things needed doing. So someone like a medic could come out on top without firing.
Never mentioned anything about k/d ratios and like I mentioned countless times before the games release, the Battlefield games have t/d and it works just fine.

But yes, I guess they did take "the high road" and less then a month after release new copies were going for $20 on Amazon. The game failed and it failed for a reason.

There are decent Sonic games again: Colors and Generations. But yeah, I'd really love to play a modern Sonic game that played like the Adventure games, but I doubt Sega would ever make that happen.

OT: Mirror's Edge, so if they ever get around to that sequel it would be very welcome.
Ahh you beat me too it. Mirrors edge is a game that simply needed to be fleshed out and polished.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Still a damned good game, especially with the community patches to smooth out the experience. One of my favourites even! But it just could have... *should* have been more. Oh what I'd give for more games like Bloodlines. In my ideal gaming world Bloodlines wouldn't need community patches and would have been shipped perfect, would have sold fantastically, and Troika would still be around making Arcanum and Bloodlines 2.

Knights of the Old Republic 2

If you're ever played this game with the Restored Content Mod you'll know what I mean when I say this game had the potential to not just be better than the first game, but to absolutely blow it away in nearly every regard. The gameplay was more diverse and better balanced, the story was extremely compelling, the characters you interact with fantastically well realized. Only problem? Never finished. It was clearly shipped incomplete (Yes I know why!) and even with amazing mods like the above it's just never been allowed to reach that high promise.
I wholeheartedly agree about KOTOR 2 though while I bought Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines on steam for some reason it won't work on my computer. God I wish they would do an HD collection of the KOTOR games and finish KOTOR 2.
You need (and I mean that literally) this unofficial patch: http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php

Download it, run it, it's fairly self explanatory and will work with your Steam copy. After that the game should run just fine. Also, obligatory piece of advice for that game: Don't play Nosferatu or Malkavian on your first playthrough. Save Malkavian for later, trust me.

Huh didn't think I would literally need a fan made patch but thanks. Just had it installed but I never got around to getting rid of it so I might as well use it. Also thanks for the bits of advice. I remember hearing those before but forgot the reasons. Something about them being hard I think.
EDIT: Hey what's the difference between basic patch and plus patch?
