I agree with alot of the ones posted already so rather than repost them I'll just throw in my 2 bits.

Champions Online. I actually really did enjoy this game, for about a week past launch. Then I just didn't want to play anymore. I don't wanna say it's a bad game, but it obviously didn't hook me well enough.

Superman Returns by EA
and
That Matrix game that came out when the second movie did that was supposed to intertwine with the movie story, but just made everything even more confusing and had horrid controls.

...oh AND Age of Conan

Most games with advertising budgets disproportionate to their development budgets. Or with Peter Molyneux hyping them.

Final Fantasy X-2

No matter how many games I dislike, I think this is the only one I wish I could literally beat myself into forgetting ever existed.

Once again i have to make a case for Too Human...sigh, what a joke that came out to be.
Too true. Too Human was a joke of a game, I felt bad for buying it as a B-Day present for my older brother.

Gears of war 2.

I didn't pay it for the story, but the story was so bad that that I faceplam many, many times

example: gaint worn.

And the muiti player was killed by little changes and long matchs makeing time even when the muiti player was hype alot.

Prototype, after beating the game twice and spending a couple of hours chopping people in half, it lost all novelty in it.
K, you see the problem with this post right? You beat it twice, and spent several more hours cutting people in half. That's at least 30 hours of play. How is that a a let down? I barely get that play time out of most games.

Gears of War 2. it Got so much hype, but when i got it, i found that game play was essentially the same (except there were even more bad guys to shoot), graphics where they essentially turned up the brightness on the tv for me, and the entire second half of the story made no sense.

I was too disappointed to even try multi player, which i hear is as glitchy as hell anyway. Horde mode was probably the only good thing about it.

Hey, once you think up Kain, the mold shatters.

OP: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for the DS. I was excited until about three days and two play sessions after I got it. I forgot that it was a direct remake, with no addition to the plot (that was made over 15 years ago) whatsoever. The characters could have had more depth, as well.

Red Alert 3 and C&C 3, great series before EA managed to buy out Westwood
Of all the games. I hoped they would just leave RA3 alone and not make it a C&C3 clone with different skins. I was sadly mistaken. No, the Jap forces morphing does not make up for it. That is a new mechanic, not a different engine.

Halo 3
CoD: WaW
Assassins Creed
Empire: Total War
Portal(it just wasn't the divine piece of perfection it was said to be)
Half Life 2, ep. 1&2 (Yawn)
Mass effect (too damn short, flawed gameplay)

Spore...

I would like to compile a list of games that, quite frankly, didn't live up to their hype.

Starting off the list

Spore :)
Oh, the very first post beat me to it.

Yeah, no game will ever be as disappointing to me as Spore.
As much as I love Spore, the game's climax brought about, quite possibly, the biggest disappointment I have ever felt.
