If they're putting the effort into actually advertising it, they put effort into the game as well.
The game version of the movie "Battleship" would like a word with you, about every other commercial is an advertisement for that game. (Didn't actually buy it, but look up any review for it)

You had pretty much sum up 2008 Alone in the Dark and abit of The Last Story for me.

I was impress with the game engine with Alone in the Dark and the many trailers of it however what I was watching was the Xbox 360 version (I owned the Wii.
Needless to say I was super pissed when I played the Wii version and the changes to it like you cannot combine items together and for some strange reason the plot was different in the Wii version.

With the Last Story they hype it out to be an awesome game and the gimmick/ mechanic it used (like hiding behind walls) and it's made by the same person who did this Final Fantasy game so you know it's awesome (same with the soundtrack).
When I played the game, the story and soundtrack was bland (I've been spoiled by the awesome varity in Xenoblade Chronciles) and the game is too lineral.
You should always look up whether or not the Wii version is different than the other versions. If it's an entirely different game, it more than likely sucks. ESPECIALLY if it comes from Ubisoft. Call of Duty Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 show them how it's done.
Yeah I guess I was a fool back then althought I guess I was obligated to buy it since I preorder it due to me being a sucker for exclusive stuff for preordering it.
Either way I tend to buy it after reading some reviews and people comments these days well most of the time.

It's shallow and repetitive with no real motivation to do anything, besides doing things for the sake of it.

You're never really rewarded for your efforts, there's little point scavenging loot as you can make your own items that are 1000% better then anything the game spawns and the combat is lame. It's a 5/10 game at best IMO. I was a fan of TES too...
I can get you not liking the combat and finding it repetitive... but everything else just sounds like any other game in existence. Surely the whole point of levelling up forging and enchanting is so that you can make better weapons? As for motivation to do something... well... I don't really get what you want there. I mean when I do a quest in Skyrim I just do it because it's there and I get to explore the map a bit, so yeah, just "for the sake of it" I guess. I thought that would be enough.

I mean you're entitled to your opinion but I just think there are better reasons to dislike it.

Edit: Oh shit, yeah, the topic.

Well when I was first getting into PC games I heard about Hellgate: London, which sounded badass but turned out just to be bad. I eventually bought it about a year after it came out, but yeah, it WAS shit. Also DNF... I thought no game could be bad enough to make me regret spending £2.50 for it... I WAS WRONG.

I'm surprised I didn't see it somewhere on the first page...

Final Fantasy XIII.

I was a big fan of the series going way back. FFXIII was arguably the most disappointing game I've ever played.

Yeah...

Duke Nukem Forever. Unlike other people, I haven't been waiting 12 years for it, so I have a lesser right to be dissapointed. In fact, I just bought Duke3D about 10 months before DNF was released.
That doesn't change the fact that I was really excited for it, and I was let down. I still love the Duke Nukem games, I just hope that the developers will learn from their mistakes.

Hyperdimension Neptunia. You looked so fun, dammit. And the idea is solid. Why was the execution so bad?
Same here, and yet I bought the sequel.

(And some ***** threatened to call the Police when I went to trade it in, based on the cover art.)

How is it? I've heard it is far better. Is it worth the purchase? And over-reactionary idiots be overreacting.

Aliens Vs. Predator.

I loved the whole concept and how it would work.....but the Multiplayer turned from greatness into:

It turned into Predators win when they get the Disk weapon. Also, Aliens can go fuck themselves and Marines are hardly given a chance. The worst part was that the Aliens were the most fun to play as in my opinion.

Executions, while cool, either took too long or had this awkward moment where you'd end up with a whole train of people instakilling each other.

I liked playing as the Alien because I wanted to scout out an enemy, destroy the lights and pick them off like a real Alien would have. Instead....I could to it maybe once, but then a predator beats me in a melee fight.

There was this REALLY cool moment in the campaign though, towards the end where you fight Aliens as they come down this bridge. The music is just right, the weapons laid out are right, the amount of Aliens is cool, even that fast moment where you have to turn on the turret if you want so much as a chance.
I loved that game. The campaigns were awesome.

I also slaughtered as the Marine. People got pissy and left because I was topping the leader boards!

I played the demo for too human so I knew not to get it. Eternal Sonata. This isn't entirely the games fault, when I was younger, and more stupid, I loved JRPGs, but I grew out of them and Eternal Sonata made me realize that. Wasn't that game supposed to be based on someone's life? Was magic like super aids back then?

Black & White. The first and last time I bought into the hype for anything.
I'll second that! We have only ourselves to blame though. I was at maybe the fourth gym when I had a moment of clarity, and realized I'd once again handed Nintendo my hard earned money for the same game they've been making for almost fifteen years. I blame the gold/silver remake and it's focused laser of nostalgia.

Brink. The trailers made it look like I'd be involved in complex battles and using the environment and movement to get an advantage on the enemy. Nope, just another failed shooter that did nothing particularly different.

OT: I played the demo of Kingdom's of Amular and thought it would be fun.

Oh, how wrong I was.

The Conduit for the Wii

I was all set for this to be an amazing sci-fi shooter to rival the likes of Halo, it's trailers, hype and general interest from the media made me preorder, but the day it came was a bit of a disappointment. It's gameplay was uncomfortable with the Wii controls, it's plot was pretty sub standard and it's online capabilities (which was one of the main reasons I was first interested in the game itself) were extremely limited and dull.

Such a shame, it could have been so much more..

Are you joking or was SHE joking? What the hell kind of charge could she possibly put on you for trading in a game?
Something to do with me being a sick white fuck with one of those "Jap kid porn games", tbh there was so much screaming involved I didn't get all of it.

I could have called her out on being in there buying her son (still in school uniform so ~ 12 yo) MW3 and BF3, but figured that would be a bad idea.

Better all-round, but the grinding got to me pretty quickly, plus I didn't get on with the influence mechanic.
