So, many of us here are discussing disappointment with the ending of a certain recent game, but I'm wondering - which games actually do have endings that totally knock it out of the park? Spoiler any details!

I'd say Portal and Final Fantasy 3(6) are two great examples.

Jak 3 had a great ending, random Jak + Ashelin romance aside. Thankfully Jak-X fixed that by putting her back with Torn.

Planescape: Torment had an amazing ending, I know it is kind of lame to always tout that game as being the end all be all of RPGs but it is where I stand.

I Agree with Clive Howlitzer on Planescape: Torment, pretty damn good!

I think Portal two actually gave me goosebumps; a choir of turrets?! I felt humbled by this gesture. And seldom does a game narrative end in the player's mortal enemy simply accepting defeat. Beautiful.

Baldur's Gate 2's ending was pretty good, bit open due to the expansion-pack (that's a word you don't get to use often these days! Its all DLC now....) but still pretty satisfying.

Bioshock! In spite of the shitty end cut-scene.

Shadow of the Colossus.

MGS 4, great way to end the series.

Loved the first God of War's ending; fantastically heart-wrenchingly tragic. By far my favourite.

Chrono Trigger. Just the sheer number of possible endings makes it memorable and satisfying.

Yeah, PS:T. Also Spirit Engine 2, Devil Survivor, Link's Awakening, Tri-Achnid, Halo: Reach, New Vegas, and many, many others in a variety of different genres.

inFAMOUS 2, sure it's sad (I'm talking about the good ending) but it really raps up the story well.

Red Dead Redemption, they'd never leave him alone, but boy was it moving

Dragon Age: Origins, endings that can be sad or happy depending on your actions can be difficult to get right, DA is defiantly a game that gets it right.

Alpha Protocol, both Bioshocks, X-Blades (satisfying in the sense that I didn't have to play that junk anymore)

GTA3-4 /gta:sa. lad& bogt(i liked all of them)
RDR
SR2 (short but great & you can get some kind of secret ending which wraps up ties between 1&2,great)
Dead to rights retribution (the whole game seems like an eighties schwarzenegger movie)
Batman arkham asylum
Uncharted 1-3 (3 was a bit lacking,
what about the other characters like Chloe and the british guy? ND could `ve wrapped it up better.
The first Killzone

Sorry, i messed up the spoilertag, now it`s right.

Deus Ex - showing that being able to choose an ending regardless of how you played the game prior isn't necessarily a bad thing.

captcha - believe me.

Max Payne 1 had a very satisfying ending:
Shoot way to the top of a tower filled with spec-ops guys, then proceed to blast a radio-tower over on top of the helicopter the main antagonist is in.
This bit that he says is neat as well:
"They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark on everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger, and it was over."
Also, mainly because Max Payne is a total bad-ass and I'm kinda hyped for MP3.
EDIT: Also Bastion, regardless of which option. I will admit, the ending where you
send the Bastion, and the world, back in time to before the Calamity
made me tear up a bit, courtesy of me getting really emotionally invested in the characters and story, along with the song in the background:

~Baldur's Gate 2 Throne of Bhaal

An Epilogue to describe what happens to everyone, not to mention the final battle being satisfying.

~Dragon Age Origins

I loved that game's ending, being celebrated as a hero after defeating the big bad and talking to your party members afterwards was amazing.

~Fallout New Vegas

They went almost overboard on how much detail they put into that game's endings.

~Legacy of Kain: Defiance

I actually really loved that game's final narration

~Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal

After going through a second entire region you explored through the previous game, defeating all the gym leaders, and reaching the top of the final dungeon. You meet the protagonist of the previous game and fight him

It blew my 10 year old mind at the time.

~The Witcher

Oh god that ending was so epic

~Mafia

That game's use of crime movie's cliches were so spot on, that it got the ending down so perfectly I don't think any other crime related game could top it.

~Both Max Payne games

Given how they both start in media res, it is really interesting seeing how it gets to that point, and what happens after.

I always thought the line after that was better. "The storm seemed to lose it's frenzy. The ragged clouds gave way to the stars above."

"MAX PAYNE. THROW DOWN YOUR WEAPONS AND PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEAD"

"A bit closer to heaven"

I totally forgot about Max Payne 1-2
& Binary Domain (you can get a real nice one, there are slightly different ones).

Edit: Woah, i have to type faster. Two replies with MP above. Which reminds me...
Army of two ( only the first. The endings from aot2 were shitty, like the whole fourth grade story).
