Condemned is the scariest game I ever played... Especially this bit:

And that bit:

and Doom 1/2 can be scary sometimes... but very rarely.

Parts of Master Blaster when I was 8.

LoZooT on a 42" screen in the pitch dark fighting nearly any boss, or the entirety of the Grass Temple in the same conditions.

War arc in Conker BFD under the same conditions.

Dead Space manages to scare me even after I've played through it once. It's the necromorphs...the way they move, the sounds they make- it's unnatural.

And the ending clip scares me every single time I watch it. Doesn't matter if I know that it's coming. It just does.

And there was the entire end of F.E.A.R. 2. The combat was mediocre, yeah, but oh my God was the ending unsettling.

Surprised to see no one mentioned Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines Ocean House Hotel... Reminds me a little bit of "the shining" and "the changeling" but with the first hand interaction of course...
Also as most of you mentioned, Fatal Frame 2 is something else(which is in my opinion the best in the series) broken neck lady and the twins scared me enough to watch some Steven Seagal flicks with the intention to recharge my manliness...
And finally there was a moderate game for the ps2 called Ku-on...It was not really that much of a scare but the atmosphere was so intense, you had to think twice before moving on...And the music was haunting...

I honestly am unable to see what so many people find scary about F.E.A.R. I tried so hard to be afraid of that game, but I just couldn't. I loved the game, even managed to finish it, but all the time I was expecting something scary and it just didn't happen. Sure, there is the stairs bit, and that bloody corridor, but I failed to be impressed by them. Maybe I should play the game again...

OT: I already talked about CoC: Dark Corners of the Earth, especially the horrifying Flying Polyp fight, and about the voice-recording in Blair Witch 1, somewhere else in these forums. But there is a very simple scene in Silent Hill 2 that got my back crawling for no apparent reason. It's when you go into an empty store and on the wall someone painted (in red, obviously) the sentence: "There was a HOLE here. It's gone now."

I can't explain to this day why that creeped me (especially the all-capitals HOLE). And that is why I love the first two Silent Hill games so much, they are full of moments like that.

Sadly I haven't played Condemned 1, but the Hotel level in Condemned 2 made me almost cry for my mummy.

Also the office level in the first FEAR, where you first encounter those cloaked ninjas. It takes ages for them to actually pop up, you know that sómething is there (bodies, lots of em) but you have no idea what or where. I was absolutely terrified there. That is, until I learned the trick on how to beat them: listen for decloaking sound, pop slow-mo and look around you.

When I was younger, the Redeads in OoT I just couldn't stand...
I found the OoT ReDeads kittens compared to the Wind Waker one's (played WW before OoT). That scream...o gods that blood curtailing scream.
Hahahaha yeah, I nearly shat my pants when the first one appeared, but they just became funny when I realised the slow-mo thing.

FUN= SLOWMO + KICK TO THE FACE

Fear didnt actually SCARE me so much as just keep my heart pumping all the way through, as in adrenaline. Its the closest you could get to an action film methinks.

Condemned: Criminal Origins and Bloodshot

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time... I was too scared of the zombies when I was a kid. So much that I never completed the game.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Bloodsuckers primarily. Tentacle-faced humanoid vampire things with glowing red eyes and are mostly invisible most of the time. They also take a whole lotta shotgun. Also some of the mutant animals are just damn creepy to see.

Also, ninja wolf attacks in Oblivion. You're walking around, enjoying the lush green scenery, and then suddenly... BOOM! Wolf noise. Screen blurs and shakes. Scares the crap out of you.

That demands explanation...

And Clock Tower (the original) did me no favors. (Hides in cupboard and cries)

Trust me when I say this. Never play Fatal Frame at night when you are by yourself! You will scare the crap out of yourself.
I tried that. On Halloween no less. Suffice to say, I couldn't fall asleep that night.

Walking in an eerily quiet Ravenholm, anxious and on edge, when.....
Poison Headcrab: SCREEEEEEEECH!
or: Fast Zombie: WUAARHAAHRHAA!
Me: GAAAH *BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*BLAM*
It's not unusual for me to empty the entire shotgun at one target because it made me jump and FREAKED ME THE FUCK OUT.

Even more so when you finally beat it and you're left to piece together the story and absolutely nothing you can think of makes any sense. Doesn't help that every non-cutscene piece of dialogue sounds like Stephen Hawking's robot voice ran through some of the most unearthly filters ever.

Also, if Susie (the disembodied head) wasn't so damn hilarious, I'd be terrified of her.
