Good question...

I'd say Bioshock 2. A few months after it's release and it's already got no online community.

Majora's Mask... I loved and still do love that game, but Christ, the swamp is bordered with 2D cardboard cutout trees which look absolutely awful. I'm sure they could have done better than that, seriously.

The only one I can think of is Secret of Mana. Tried it again after 15 odd years and stopped playing after about 20 minutes. Mind you I also wouldn't touch the modern equivalent either so maybe thats not really fair. Same could be said of fighting games.

Doom isn't too bad, other than the slightly puke inducing brown corridors etc it's still quite entertaining.

I don't normally get snobbish about graphics, but maybe that's because I can remember playing a lot of older titles first time around on the PS1. Since I've never played KOTOR up to now the visuals don't compare very well at all to newer Bioware titles like Dragon Age, and given the gameplay is very very similar it's hard not to notice.

*ducks and hides from the legion of KOTOR fans*

The original Tomb Raider. You could cut glass with those weird pyramid things on her chest.

The original DMC. Am I the only one who thinks the sword throwing animation looks a little goofy now? Still, at least you had Ifrit; greatest gauntlets in the series.

MGS has aged...poorly.

The story is great, but the general gameplay has not aged too well. Then again, MGS4 still used the annoying shoulder button inventory system...
Okay, so is it worth the $10 or so on PSN, or should I skip straight to MGS2?
I actually got it again and I have to disagree with him. I feel that while you do miss first person shooting, it still holds its own really well. If you want to experience the story, and want a more of a run and gun MGS (there's only one or two silenced weapons I believe, and dead bodies disappear) then pick it up. You'll want to aim down the sites and have that awesome third person camera that the current MGS games have, but I don't think you'll have a problem playing it. For stories sake, I'd say give it a shot =]

That being said, OT: I find Goldeneye for the N64 to be sort of struggle to play now. Maybe I didn't give it enough time and after another 10-15 minutes I would've been adjusted to it once again, but I think that modern console shooters just control so well compared to the shooters from back then.

I'd say Final Fantasy 7, when it came onto PSN it was pretty cool to be playing it out where and whenever I liked. However that wore off quickly and it was like, ok not point in going on. Also the graphics pale compared to some rpgs we can play on mobile systems. Persona 3 Portable comes to mind.
I think it would hold up better if it had better out of combat character models.
I think that is more taste really. I like to think of it as Final Fantasy Lego.

OT: I would say Half Life. Yes it is good and there are some things that still hold up but the genre has just evolved so much since it. Also I hate unskipable cutscenes/ingame events which Half Life invented. They would be better if they were skippable. It doesn't bother me for first run through but second and thrid runs they get old and break the pace of speed run.

I would have to say Sonic. Most obvious choice to pick. He has been milked more times than a cow and I can say he needs to take some time off from the video game world.

Pretty much every early PS1 and Sega Saturn game has aged terribly. The companies insistence on shoehorning 3D into every game they could, regardless of genre or technology, has made most of them look like crap by today's standards. Some got off ok, primarily those that still used 2D backgrounds like Resident Evil, but they all controlled more or less terribly, thanks to the lack of analog control.

Not a whole lot on the N64 has aged very well either. Goldeneye is fun, sure, but as an FPS its pretty crappy. Super Mario 64 is another good example, it just looks and plays terribly.

Sonic Adventure 1 has a little bit of this. I recently decided to download the trial off of XBLA, having personally loved the game when I was younger. It was.....disappointing.

I submit Star Wars: Dark Forces as my choice (random ass Boba Fett fight at 7:28 in the video)

Part of it is because my tastes have change since I played this game. I don't like the first-person perspective anymore. But this game and the older ones its gameplay was based off of haven't aged well at all.

Poor control should be listed as a feature in survival horror.

For me it's the level design. It always seemed really counter-intuitive in the Dark Forces games. The live action cutscenes are still the greatest thing ever though.

the first final fantasies on the nes are reeeaaaally hard to stand today :D
and, i know, i might get some enemies for that statement, but i think that castlevania: symphony of the night has been made obsolete thanks to its successors, i only think about aria/dawn of sorrow or order of ecclesia.

In a weird way, I think Crash Bandicoot has aged in a Benjamin Button pattern. Meaning the new games quickly seem dated and unplayable yet I still play through the first 3 Crash games every once in awhile.

Metal Fatigue, managed to get it working on my xp ...and I still love it, but I would pay for a remake of it, only graphically and maybe the AI but that's it. Gameplay wise, it's flawless. Also soundtrack is sexy.

In case you didn't notice, I love Neuropa.
