BioShock. I came away from it thinking about Objectivism and fascism like I hadn't before. No one in BioShock is finger quotes evil. They're just well-intentioned people who were far less advanced than they thought they were, with horrible, horrible consequences do largely to their self-imposed isolation. Granted, the fact that they were arrogant enough to try Ryan's experiment in the first place speaks to their character flaws. But it wasn't like they knew how bad everything was going to get. They were just simple people and it got away from them.

I never felt this way about game characters before. These aren't run-of-the-mill bad guys for the player to kill - they're messed up people who must be stopped, but again, it's nobody's fault, the situation is just out of control. I've never played another game that left that kind of impact.
I've never thought of Bioshock like that, but now that you mention it i see what you mean. I'll have to play it again

I feel like we've done this before but GTA 4 hit me emotionally many many times. When your girlfriend betrays you, I felt genuinely betrayed, when roman was kidnapped I was actually pissed off, when I executed darko I actually felt empty, and when kate was killed I genuinely felt both sad and angry.

Syphon Filters 1 and 2. Gabe went through so much crap in those two I just couldn't help but sympathize with him the entire time, especially when Stevens tried to pull that crap at the lab with Lian while she was dying in 2. I was so happy when you get to give him just punishment for his actions.

I agree, I cried at the end of FFX
but I tend to be emotionally involved in most of the games I play. My jaw dropped in awe during COD2 battle scenes.

Not gonna lie-- I teared up a bit at the end of Final Fantasy IX.
You're not alone. Cheesy romance ending? sure. But dramatic in every good sense of the word? You bet.

I'm not afraid to admit I'm a pretty emotional person, so a lot of games that really draw me in make me feel for the characters. Biggest culprit to date is the .Hack//GU series, those games had so many strong moments. Like when Atoli finally confronts Haseo, or Haseo's speech before the last Ovan battle, or the very end scene in the cathedral... and on and on...

Portal, when I had to destroy my companion cube :(

Seriously though, I did feel kind of bad in ff7 when Aeris was killed by Sephiroth

I felt depressed in Halo 3 when the the most annoying and phsycotic thing in the universe kills the most bad ass character in the game. Rest in peace Sargent Johnson.

Mass Effect really hit that button for me. Not the best of games but,
when the game makes you choose between Kaiden and what's-her-name (yeah, guess who I left to die) I felt a pang of emotion as I watched the cinematic depicting the final heroics of the one I had just sentenced to death.

Shadow of the Colossus. It was just epic, and I felt it.
Showed that to my GF a while back and she asked why i was killing the poor giants who were just minding their own business... I tried to explain that the character was trying to revive his love but she said the giants looked so sad when they died...

I can't play that game anymore.

I don't usually get too sad in games. But after the Europe part of MGS4 there's a terribly sad scene (you know the one after the REALLY long cut scene:). Seriously I felt very misty.

Not sad, but I felt quite uncomfortable killing a little sister in Bioshock too.

Are you kidding? Killing the Little Sisters in BioShock is fucking satisfying. 'Specially on a second playthrough.

The end of Cod4 was pretty awe inspiring. It also brought a small tear to my eye.

Uhhh... a manly tear! Yeah... Grrrr!

I have to say San Andreas. It's one of those games that when u finish it, you realise how good it really was. Whilst driving through the countryside after the final mission i kind of felt sad cause it was over.

Good games tend to do that.
