Arkham City, but not in a good way. I couldn't believe the way it ended. I did not like that ending.
Yeah, the thanks for that go out to a special voice actor. Many people liked it but i still hope he comes back.

I felt it was just off. Rocksteady will have a hard time for future batman games since the most interesting character is no more.

A game I completed recently that made me feel that way? I think bastion is the only one that comes to mind at the moment.

Spec Ops: The Line
Holy shit that game was dark

Mass Effect 1 + 2 both had epic endings that really made my pants tighten

Call of Duty 4's ending had me silent.

I was literally shaking after I executed Zakhaev and his two guards, and once I saw the loyalist Russian soldier trying to revive a dying Captain Price....whew.

I was also stunned after HL2: Episode 2.

Penumbra: Black Plague had that effect on me.

The ending was absolute shit. The game was one of the most terrifying ever, yet the ending was rather chirpy and involved a bunch of tests narrated by a benevolent hive mind trying to teach me about cooperation.

No, seriously, that's it, I'm not making this shit up.
Having a Gilbert Gottfried soundalike in your head for most of the game didn't sort of remove something of it before that?

(Didn't kill it for me, somehow :D)

I disagree about it being chirpy, but it certainly was a drastic change, especially compared to Penumbra Overture.

Metal gear solid 4. Man when the credits rolled i just sat infront of my TV gazing straight at it and barely blinked. "Heres to you" was the perfect song to use after the perfect tear-jerking debriefing that was MGS4.

Also arkham city, the only game that gave me the same reaction as the one i had with MGS4

Journey and Deus Ex: Human Revolution were the two games whose endings I was so shocked/pleased by that I sat through the entire credit sequence.

That ending...is Final Fantasy X. Yes, I am admitting it now. I cried at the ending of Final Fantasy X.
I didn't...I started tearing up during the cutscene that plays before you fight Jecht at the end of the game.

"...I hate you Dad..."
"I know you do."
*sniffle*

Final Fantasy IX made my eyes myst up as well...

On the other end of the spectrum is Halo 2, where I was left staring at the end-credits in disgusted disbelief that the game ended as it did. Also, Halo 3's beginning made no sense in the context of the Halo 2 ending. If anything, Halo 3 should have started like CoD4 began: The Chief in that alien ship making his way to the cock-pit/control deck killing everything/everything in his path.

All three of the Mass Effect games. Unfortunately, the last game was for a much, much different reason. It stunned me the same way a good kick to the balls would.

Rome: Total War. I'm struggling to remember if there were actually credits, but sitting back and realizing I just conquered the (known) world was... so damn satisfying.

The Fire Emblem games. I've got a special place in my heart for these games, because they were the games that first got me into gaming more seriously than just a way to pass the time. The endings were always pretty satisfying, especially if you managed to keep everyone alive.

Front Mission 3.
Amazing story, amazing characters, 50+ hours campaign... all these memories and then comes the music... I still have it on my iPod.

Ninja'd by the first 3 posts. Aquaria, Journey and HL2 E2 all had stunning endings, also Bastion and portal.

Where do I start?

Silent Hill 2.
L.A. Noire (if you've played it... you know why)
Bastion
Alpha Protocol (its story redeems the bugs... most of the time)
Mass Effect 3 (though in this case it was more... 'how can they be so fucking STUPID!?!?!?')
Dear Esther (mainly... "what the fuck just happened?" in a good way)
OddWorld: Abe's Oddessy. (just... awesome)
The Walking Dead (yes, the game... even though it isn't 'finished' yet)
Vampire: The Masqeurade: Bloodlines (the "individualist" ending was so satisfying)
KOTOR 2 with a restored content mod (its a masterpiece, makes Inception's mind screws seem feeble and clumsy)
Fallout New Vegas (actually... it was a point far before the end credits - which I always put off getting to - ... Vault 11... just... Vault 11)

Press Spacebar to Progress. Also known by other names, its a game on Newgrounds where all you do is press spacebar. Its the only button you use, and you will win the game if you keep pressing it. I didnt exactly stare at the screen stunned in awe as the credits rolled, but I did laugh my arse off.

Super Mario Bros - I never would've guessed that he would save the princess!

*Ahem*

In all seriousness, for all it's faults GTA 4's ending left me feeling appropriately empty for a few hours after.

EDIT: And also Slender. A hopeless ending, very fitting for a hopeless and terrifying horror game.
