Dawn of War II.

The very definition of taking a spectacular game and completely ruining its mechanics.

I tried to very hard to love that game as I loved DoW I, but I'm sorry, it's an embarrassment to mankind. Worse than Soulstorm.

FF12, Mercenaries 2, Ninety Nine Nights 2, MW2, Mass Effect 2, also the entire Halo franchise...I thought the first one was a pretty good fps with a lot of potential, and then I saw Halo 2 and 3.

I would say Modern Warfare 2, but I think I've done that enough for a lifetime..... so....

Command and Conquer 4.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot. I don't think "Where did it all go wrong" has ever been as appropriate for me.

It starts off well, actually gets better as it goes on, but it reaches a point towards the end where it takes a massive nose dive in quality and it just becomes a struggle to finish.
Dude I agree. The first was excellent and 2 started off well. But it slowly went insane and started making no sense at all to the point I questioned my own sobriety.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.

I hated it after the first mission for the game's horrible innovations in controls: a "dynamic" cover system and the inability to crouch. After figuring out that I could turn these ingenius functions of and play it like... well, pretty much just play it. It was pretty good for the next 10 missions or so, then it forced me into a sneaking mission with it's lovely AI. After pissing me off with that, the ended the game in a very long fight with instakilling enemies and one cover spot.
Ha the auto cover system didnt bother me at all but the stupid duels did. It was literally just pure luck if you actually won them or you had to count the seconds untill the bell goes off.
Man, I couldn't even get that far. I just can't stand those accents, and I'm FROM Texas.

Im surprised no body has mentioned some of the game I'm thinking of...of well, maybe some of you will agree once you see what I am talking about.

WET: This game had me so excited to play it, then once I got to the point where you "defeated" Ze Kollector, I was starting to realize where the game was going, and that was all downhill....I mean, I know they where going for the "cinematic" experience, but I felt like during the tougher parts of the game, and by which I mean the boss fights if you can call them that, where nothing but QTEs that felt like I was watching an old 80 joke film of some urban ninja girl killing guys cause she never got loved enough as a child and decides that slicing and shooting guys in the balls is the only way to show people how she feels on the inside.

I could go on, but truthfully, i haven't been so let down by a game that I got so worked up to play. If anyone out there hasn't played it yet, don't bother. It's not worth it.

The gameplay concept and visual design was truly amazing, but the execution was balls.
This.
That game had no reason not to work. Interesting story, cool concept, and some downright beautiful visuals. Slap on just some basic tried and proven controls, and a camera that doesn't hate all living things, and you have a great game. Didn't quite happen like that though.

MW2: need i say why ?

Mercs 2: Just too glitchy. AI was BAD. Also, if your gonna give allied AI, make them help. Airdropping was also bad. You couldnt tell where the smoke grenade would go. I dropped many vehicles, supply drops, and allies on the top of buildings. Also, the buildings had HEALTH BARS.

Dantes Inferno: I just... didnt get into it. One of the most regretful purchases i have ever had in recent years. Weekend rental. You cant even play it for the story. IT gets butchered. The poem ( as far as i know Dante didnt run around Hell killing (?) people. Atleast is spawned a good inside joke with me and a couple friends ( the way Dante says Beatrices name is hillarious, no matter what his tone is, whenever he says the name he grits his teach and shouts it, hillarious)

Grand Theft Auto 4: IT just feels like tried to ground it in reality, and thats not GTA for me. ITs always been a bit over the top. But the worst part was movement. Niko handles like im playing drunk. The cars handle like were both drunk. Saints Row 2 is better ( production value not by a mile, but WAY funner, i cant dick around in GTA 4 like i can in SR2)

Lord of The Rings: Battlefront or whatever it was called. I almost came when I heard that this game was getting a graphics update and online features. ALONG with LOTR which is my favourite fantasy trilogy. What a massive letdown that was.

But then again maybe Battlefront games have always been bad; I mean as a kid maybe I just thought they were good because I had no base of comparison.

I just don't know anymore. ;(

Tactics is the only FF game I've ever really enjoyed, so I was looking forward to FF12.

Unfortunately, as is the case with many games that base their appeal almost exclusively on the strength of their characters, one extremely prominent and shitty character made this title effectively unplayable for me.

Err... And which bit was that again?
Way early in the game you have a giant booming voice teach you how to use a flashlight while light shines down from above.

I mean, it was just too silly for me.

I still liked the game, but from then on any chance this game had to be scary was completely vaporized...lol
Well, it wasn't really God... But then again the whole premise was slightly bizare but I think you have to just accept that odd shit will be going down. Besides, poor Alan does have a little trouble with reality.

Oh and if God talking to you is a problem, you won't like Silent Hill 3. You're destined to give birth to God!

OT: I'm going to say Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) I mean half way through... just WTF? Also, mirror's Edge, it had such great gameplay and was totally unique... but had zero storyline and some awfully animated cutscenes. Depressing.

And this. Seriously, when you have to shout at people to make their heads explode (or something) you just know that the storyline department got a little bit bored.

I can understand not liking the route they took with DoW2. I can understand being mad about them completley changing most of the games mechanics and moving away from the traditonal RTS format. I can get that.

But worse than Soulstorm? Are you serious?

But... Did you... What?!

Did you play through all of the game? That wasn't God, and even if it was (which it's not) it's a dream anyway.

Gotta agree there, the plot twist was completely retarded, not to mention unimaginative and cliched.

Aaaah I'm under attack! Oh, it's ok, I'll just shout at them.

to be honest, on this kind of questions I usually think about Lair. I mean, a game in which you could ride a dragon, figth in huge aerial battles, how could it go wrong?... well, it did. The worst controls ever (later partially fixed by a patch), graphics similar to the ones of a PS2 among other things were the responsible of this. I wonder, had the game not been rushed, what kind of game would it have been.

Spore. I suppose where it went wrong was in the design team's ambition. They wanted to give us the damn moon, but it turned out to be a bit beyond their grasp. We're left with a space shooter/first person shooter/gene simulator weirdness/Civilization thingie that tries to do everything, and does it all in a sad, mediocre way. I'll give Wright full marks for the attempt, but it's still a massive disappointment.

PS. No one's mentioned Daikatana yet? Really?

Final Fantasy XII. Oh, but I'm not a hater. In fact, I really like FF12. But I sure as hell do know where it went wrong(you know, besides Vaan.)

First of all, what was FFXII? A decent offline-MMO. It did alright as a game, but it fell short of what it promised.
What did it promise?

EPIC AIRSHIP BATTLES!
OLDER, MORE MATURE MAIN CHARACTER!(Basch)
DEVELOPPED BY THE GUY WHO BROUGHT YOU FINAL FANTASY MOTHERFUCKING TACTICS!

So what went wrong? The head honcho quit. They took out the airship battles. They added Vaan.

God dammit Square...
How many times do they hafta fail before they wake up?
