The Thief games make the sneaking in Oblivion (and almost any other game with stealth elements) incredibly frustrating!

THIS IS THE REASON MOST FPSES BORE ME. THIS IS WHY I CANT FIND COD THE MESSIAH THAT OTHERS DO.
Damn straight. Though I will specify "TimeSplitters 2".
Nothing beats Shotgun wielding Monkeys fighting aliens and steampunk robots on custom made maps. Love that game to death.

Funny, BG2 ruined BG1 for me. I tried to replay the first one after beating the second one but just found it boring and limiting, even though I had enjoyed it the first time around.

Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood just completely ruin 'screed 1. I tried replaying the first one and I got bored within an hour. It sucks that they made a sequel that just completely dominates the first one because it makes it seem unenjoyable now.

WHY DIDN'T I KNOW THIS SOONER.
Total lack of hype?

Game is just as good as you remember. Better, probably.
Fantastic.
I feel really dumb because I've been looking for a good arcade game and completely missed it when browsing through the marketplace a few days ago.

That game looks fun - and was that the D&D attributes system I saw?
Oh yeah. The game uses AD&D 2nd Edition rules for combat and skills.
Not only that, but there is a wonderful emphasis on actual role-playing.
Something that is very much missing from so many other RPGs these days.

Class and party-based combat, sweeping and epic storyline, so very many side-quests, memorable NPCs, a sequel that improves upon the original in every conceivable way, two expansion packs (One each for both BG1 and BG2) that are just awesome, and a MOD call Baldur's Gate Trilogy that combines both games (And their expansion packs) into one seamless, freaking massive game of puppy-punching brilliance.

Did I mention I love Baldur's Gate?

Careful that isn't nostalgia doing the talking. I felt the same way for the longest time, and then I realised how long it had been since the last time I'd played it. I've played Baldur's Gate on it's own without BG2 etc. a total of 12 times all the way through, but, every time I played it it only serves to reveal new flaws. It's still an amazing game mind you, and it's a testament to that when even when it's become a little rough after repeat plays it's still better than almost all modern RPG's.

That said, my contribution to the topic: Planescape Torment. If I didn't already feel that Baldur's Gate was lacking in some areas, then PS:T came along and blew it out of the water for me. The setting is bizarre. The characters are fun...and bizarre. The plot, while ostensibly about an amnesiac immortal searching for who he is sounds like it should be rife with cliché but for me at least ended up being one of the most engrossing RPG experiences I've ever had, with the dialogue just packed with flavour, humour and intrigue.

It kind of tainted my view on every RPG I've played since since I often find myself comparing them unfavourably in comparison.

ONLINE. CO-OP.

Local is still there, too.

And freedom to remap controls is in, too.

Has a game ever had a feature that was so good that it somewhat ruined similar games for you due to its absence?

For example:

Playing GTA after Assassin's Creed 2 or Crackdown feels a little empty to me now due to not being able to climb and jump all over everything.
this for sure. after playing crackdown i tried to go to other sandbox games and i was so annoyed that i couldn't be the superhuman that i was... >=\

OT:

well this is a very personal example, but after playing socom online (socom 2 more specifically) i have no idea why console shooters have such horrible online lobby capabilities. the game had everything under the sun:

-muting
-kick/boot capability from a majority vote
-amazing amounts of stats/comparisons
-clan names/creation ability that actually meant something, you could send out mass messages, appoint people certain positions, do basically anything, they had whole lobbies/websites dedicated to clans/clan battling/practicing
-you could make rooms that would be ranked but was all custom at the same time, and you could also make custom games like crazy online for anyone to join in on (it would have the rooms specs on the side of the room when you scrolled over it)
-the ranks actually worked well outside of douchebag cheaters/glitchers
-also included in the custom(they also had their own separate lobbies made) you could enter games based on rank (captain and higher or lieutenant or lower examples) so you wouldn't be obliterated every match by hardcore people
(there was some more but minimal differences, still good/better than alot of shooters today imo)

and this game came out for console in 02-03, why have so many console games lost many of these wonderful attributes???

When I say 'Baldur's Gate', I mean both 1 and 2 together. They are inseparable. BG1 is fantastic for it's amazing story and gameplay, and BG2 is amazing because of the groundwork BG1 laid down. Besides, I play using the BGT MOD with combines both games (And expansions) into one massive game. Seamless and Bad-ass.

No. You gotta stop flaming Baldur's Gate dude, wow, like we know you hate it but do you always have to be so harsh on it? :p

I playthrough and beat BG1 and 2 at least once a year. It's never uninstalled from my computer, and it's the first thing installed on any new computer I get. While I certainly appreciate the 'don't forget about nostalgia' warning, it's not the case here.

Crackdown in my opinion got the balance between physics, world size and retarded fun just right. Pity the second one didn't have those awesome boss fights and tactical missions.

I remember being so pleasantly surprised by AC2. I had such low expectations after Ass Creed 1 briefly cured my insomnia, but Ubisoft came along and delivered what went on to become one of my all time favorites and a character I'm still totally gay for after 2 games.

that is very true. i could spend at least an hour at a time (and believe me when i say that is a near impossible amount for me) just jumping around the city over buildings like a superhero and wrecking my agent car going 214 mph over jump. i remember one time after a good 5 hour session of crackdown i went to go get pizza with some friends and i almost tried to go underneath this old lady going 25...i was a good 4 feet from her car before i realized my car wasn't the agent car =[

between doing that and running away as fast as i could from those annoying asians with their nerf sounding like homing rockets...that game was awesome.

Any game released around the same time as a new COD. I don't even like COD, so it's quite upsetting when amazing games are ignored because there's a new way for 12-year-old's to kill you online.
Amen to that!

Lately I can't enjoy my Need for Speed games because I set my Nintendo 64 last week and started play Mario Karts 64 again!

Playing Prototype after playing Infamous is just boring. I don't really know why, Infamous is just the better game I guess.

After Playing Saint's Row 2, GTA 4 just isn't anywhere near as much fun.
This, exactly. I admit that I enjoyed Prototype a bit and GTA IV a lot, actually, but compared to Infamous/SR2, these games are about half as fun.

Unfortunately the same is true of certain shooters trying to compete with CoD. Battlefield, MoH, and even Halo are still enjoyable, but they play slower and wonkier than Activision's cash-cow (the MW games in specific). I'll go play these games for a while, but I end up missing the faster pace and smoother action of CoD. I hate to admit it, but there it is.

I guess you could say that the first Halo ruined all the sequels for me. I liked the feeling of isolation and desperateness the first game provided. Halo 2 was almost unrecognizable as a sequel because it traded so much of what made the first game good for big action set pieces and multiplayer emphasis. I also wanna say that Halo 3 has one of the worst FPS campaigns I have ever played which is saying a lot because I usually find something redeeming in all games.

Persona 3 & 4, other RPGs just don't compare after you've spent a year getting to know all the charecters in non life threatening situations.

After that, all charecters seem underdeveloped.
THIS. I also enjoyed the unintentional learning about Japanese culture in how it differs from ours.
