Ravenholm in Half-Life 2 the first time I played through was quite the scary experience, especially since I ran out of ammunition for all of my guns at one point and had to kill a pack of poison headcrabs and a poison headcrab zombie with nothing but a crowbar. Plus, I was wearing headphones, which probably didn't help make it any less terrifying.

Also, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. Scariest game I've ever played, especially the underground research lab portions (made even more scary by wearing headphones, at 2 in the morning, in the dark... I still shiver just thinking about it).

When I was little, Dino Crisis for the PS1! For years i had nightmares of dinosaurs crashing through my window! >_<

The most recent game, was Bioshock 1, when i first played the demo when it came out, that was creepy in a totally different way!

When I was younger, Majora's Mask and some of the places from Ocarina of Time (like the shadow temple or under the well) scared me. They are not as scary now, but they still are a bit eerie. Especially some of the monsters are still creepy like the redeads or the floor master hands.

Metro 2033 really has some tense moments.

Any part where you're alone in the underground Metro can easily scare the shit out of you,
but the real scare is on the surface. It's an incredibly alienating atmosphere and the huge wite rats don't really help either.

But even those are nothing compared to... the librarians...

BioShock was really the only one that I was uneasy playing. Fallout 3 creeped me out for a little bit, but I got over it quickly.

Even though Mass Effect isn't a scary game, I was playing it at about 3 in the morning with all the lights off and just minding my own business driving around on some planet when some Thresher Maw freaking jumps out of the ground right in front of me. I immediately shut my Xbox off.

1. Going through Ravenholm my first time at age 14. Sitting in a room in a lake house I had never been to before, alone, at night.
When I first played Ravenhom it scared me, especially since I wasted my ammo in the beginning and ended up fighting most zombies with a crowbar (fast zombies included). Now it's one of my favorite Half-Life 2 chapter.

And Penumbra. One-part puzzler, another part VERY SCARY.
