Oh God, that scene scared me shitless.Diligent said:There it is! I was wondering how long it would take for somebody to mention this.lilmisspotatoes said:This is a 'scary' games thread and no one has mentioned Project Zero/Fatal Frame? For SHAME!
I still get freaked out playing Fatal Frame 2. The original has more jump-out scares but the second is the QUEEN of atmospheric games. (The king is still Silent Hill 2.)
I will tell you without shame, that the "peeping child" ghost in Fatal Frame 2 made it the only piece of media that ever made me scream like a ***** and run out of the room (but not before taking a sweet photo!)
Dont forget the music before and when you saw the houdini, it basicly gives you the "oh sh*t something bads gunna happen rrreeeaaalll soon" factor.Scrumpmonkey said:Extended time in Call of Pripyat on Master is enough to reduce anyone to a nervous weeping wreck. Made the mistake of testing out my new headphones with that game, you get the "Oh god! Bloodsuckers all arround me! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGG! it's breathing in my ear!" factor.
Also snorks. Jump out of fucking nowhere, kick you in the head. You'll find me weeping when there are about 5 of them and im out of ammo. Maybe it's just the ease with which you can die or the fact that the game pretty much forces you to be in panic mode throughout to stay alive since literally anything can happen but STALKER really is unnerving like no other game.
Also bioshock is pretty good at having "oh fuck" moments like the first time you meet a hudini splicer "The fuck?!.... Did that thing just burst into blood and petals-oh god it's back and throwing fireballs!"
Yea bioshock does have its moments.Scrumpmonkey said:The worst is when they appear half way through an existing fight. You end up being gang-fucked from all angles and have little recourse but to run like a little girl and try and pick them off. That is unless you have a full tank of liquid nitrogen, i love that stuff. Once froze a room full of splicers, took a bite of my sandwitch, then calmly shattered them with my shotgun. You feel so awesome.NewYork_Comedian said:Dont forget the music before and when you saw the houdini, it basicly gives you the "oh sh*t something bads gunna happen rrreeeaaalll soon" factor.Scrumpmonkey said:Extended time in Call of Pripyat on Master is enough to reduce anyone to a nervous weeping wreck. Oh and the first time you pissed off a big-daddy was a moment to remember; "right i'll just shoot him in the- **RAAAAAARW!!* (screen shakes, bowels empty) OH GOD RUN IT'S MAD!!"
Good to see that didn't just happen to me (also when I was young.)powernade said:When I finally...FINALLY reached the end of Star Fox 64 (i was young) and Andross came out of the green mist background with his big face laughing at my puny ship...I reset the 64.
That one bit in Dead Space where the woman slits her own throat was BEYOND disturbing.Gigaguy64 said:Hmmmmm.
Not really sure.
Only BioShock and Dead Space made me Jump.
Iv never really been scared that badly before by a game.
Lol one of my favorite wtf's of games is when he made it look like the game had crashed, but them his voice was cackling when it when it "crashed" and i was like "the hell is happening?"MasterSteef said:Batman: Arkham Asylum, when Batman was doing a slo-mo finisher and punched a guy full force in the nuts and there was a horrible "crunching" noise. It made me afraid for the safety and well being of my own "junk", also the scarecrow scenes were pretty damn freaky too.![]()
Yup. But I haven't played that game in forever.Mister Swift said:Super Mario 64's piano anyone?
Not a whole lot of the post are about jump scares, some games mentioned are scary because of the atmosphere. Silent hill, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., bioshock...I am Omega said:I've noticed a trend here. Most of these either involve the words
"Jump-scare", "When i was (Insert age here" ), or moments that everyone seems to agree was scary.
OT: Ironically, I played Dead Space, had a lot of jump-scares, but the issue was that it wasn't mine, it was a friend of mine's. I had heard it was scarry, and that was the reason I was playing; to get the crap scared out of me. Despite the scares, I wanted to finish, but next time I went to see him, he had finished and traded it in. Were there any really good scares beyond the first third of the game, or was it more of the jump-scares?
Playing either condemed game in the middle of the night is not a good idea.Yosato said:Condemned 1 creeped me out back in the day, but another big one for me was Fatal Frame, or Project Zero for the original X-Box. The game itself was actually really good, but seriously I played it at about 10-11 and oh my jesus it scared me. For those that haven't played it you basically have to walk around a haunted mansion at a snail's pace looking for your brother and taking pictures of fucking ghosts.
