Nope, Never, don't even think about it,

Dunno whether you noticed, but Hollywood BUTCHERS EVERYTHING.

Edit : Yeah though, Bioshock could work, it needs knocked down a pedal...
Hollywood would do exactly what you said and more to poor lovable little Bioshock.
I thoroughly enjoyed both games, played the first multiple times through.
It would break heart to see such a good game become a slave for a director to push around in his portfolio of craptistic visions.

I don't think you could screw up a Fallout movie. Fallout is about shit going down in a wasteland with super mutants, powersuit people, and robots. The tale of the Vault Dweller, Chosen One, Lone Wanderer, or Courier is so open (because of the choices you make and the fact that the main character could be ANYONE) that the only way you could actually mess up that wasteland fun is to ruin the bad guys, or forget to hire Michael Dorn for Marcus, or to leave out VAULTS.

No more heroes would be good but you would have to cut it down to 5-6 guys instead of 10 to make sure the assassins and Travis are all properly explored as characters and the fights are well choreographed.

Devil may cry could work with a new story and if they can maintain what makes Dante...Dante

I'm still under the belief that we CAN make good movies out of games so long as we get GOOD writers, actors, and directors who know and respect the source material enough to not fuck up the whole thing...

On that note, some games I'd like to see into movies should these brilliant people ever come into existence or take up positions in the film industry instead of wasting it on something like science or novelists (lol)

Metroid - Don't focus too much on Samus' character with this. I'd say the focus should be more of the creatures she fights and the world she explores. We saw the results of focusing on her more than anything else in Other M. Like Batman, we're more interested in what she's fighting than her.

Left 4 Dead - Yes, this seems like a stupid idea with zombie movies being the in-thing. I wouldn't want this live action though. I'd say if they stuck to the tech they used for that opening cutscene of the game, and just made a movie like that, you could get something good there. L4D-Animated would be a fun little series you could do. Plus it would allow us to get deeper into the characters we've all come to love.

Zelda - As much as I hate to admit it... Zelda COULD make a decent movie if they did it in a similar style to, say, Lord of the Rings. Personally, I'd like to add a darker spin to it. Maybe have Link have parents who are killed by Ganondorf during one of his hold-ups for treasure in their village or something. I'd also bring back the Ocarina or something because people liked those games the best and the time-travel thing could be fun and, perhaps, used in subsequent sequels or whatever.

I could come up with others, but I'm trying to think of how to make them a Great B-Movie or a decent A-Movie rather than just a Meh-B-Movie

Bioshock would be a terrible movie (or at least a disgrace to the source material) because it would have to be heavily compressed into a 90 minute box office smash hit, probably losing most of its beautifully haunting atmosphere in the process.
Mass Effect would be a terrible movie (or at least a disgrace to the source material) because it would have to be heavily compressed into a 90 minute box office smash hit, probably losing most of its beautifully written sci-fi epicness in the process.
Any game ever would be a terrible movie (or at least a disgrace to the source material) because it would have to be heavily compressed into a 90 minute box office smash hit and whatever unique qualities that made that game so loved would undoubtedly be lost in translation.
Would you compromise with a tv miniseries perhaps?

I cant think of any game that should have a movie beased off of the game itself. however the settings of some games would make good movies, bioshock, fallout, half life, mass effect all have settings good for movies so long as the movie doesnt follow the game itself
Well, I'm not sure that would work...
the same thing happened with Resident Evil, all they practically did was call the movie 'Resident Evil' and put some Zombies in it, but It really had nothing to do with the game, and frankly, i hated it, they turned what was meant as a survival-horror into an action movie, and it was pretty bad...

true but as you said, it was because they just used the title and zombies as well as references to a few things but mostly they changed the setting

I would of said mass effect but its already going to happen.
Next choice would be Knights of the old republic or dragon age.

Just as long as the people that like completely ruined bloodrayne keep the hell away from it.

None of the movies would ever be any better than the games. I'd love a Mass Effect movie, but the games would be better. Why do people always try to combine these two mediums? Just because it worked sort of well with books and movies, doesn't mean it will work now. Or maybe it will, if we keep trying? You know what, I'll give it a chance. But only if people will realize that while books can be turned into movies, movies can't really be turned into books. So you guys can make movies from games if you stop making games from movies!

None.
They managed to fuck up Doom.
The absolute most simple premise possible for a survival-horror-action film.

One Marine watches his friends die; he kills a bunch of demons, assaults Hell itself, and emerges victorious.

Instead, they made it into Resident Evil on Mars.

If movie-makers cannot get even that one, very very simple premise correct, then they have no business touching anything else.
Really though, if they just stopped treating video game movies as exploitation-cash-ins and actually TRIED for once, we might get something good.

The closest they've come so far was the original Tomb Raider movie, which was at least WATCHABLE. The cast and crew looked like they had a lot of fun making it too (really, it shows when this happens).

Halo:

Steven fucking spielberg wanted to direct it... -_-

The books, if done well would make good movies. Start out with the fall of reach, then go from there.

But they can't appeal only to the playerbase or as an action movie, it has to have all the emotional and morraly grey stuff from the book as the first priorty, and viral marketing and stuff.

It also MUST be an R rating, and show the true horrors of the war, it can't shy away from showing childern die horrifically, as many do in the book.

All people involved must know and care for the canon, and be good at what they do.

The problem with making a movie out of a game like Halo is that it's hard to relate to the Master Chief as a character both because of he wears a helmet that completely conceals his face and because he has no real weaknesses or flaws.

Most FPS wouldn't make good movies because they tend to focus around a single character, and not a whole lot of fantastic dialogue. Admittedly, Bioshock had some great dialogue, but having a single character listening to recordings and hearing disembodied voices through radios is unlikely to translate well to film.

Mass Effect doesn't have this problem, but trying to compress it into a 90-180 minute movie would probably make it fairly shallow. A TV mini-series would work better if you wanted to recreate the events of the game(s), although there'd also be potential for a regular TV series if you want to also have subplots involving people who aren't on the Normandy.

Bioshock also has the same problem as Mass Effect: If you compress it to a 90-180 minute movie, you'll lose something vital.

In my opinion, gamers need to stop wishing for movies based on their favorite games, and they need to stop supporting movies based on video games unless the movie is good in its own right. If for no other reason, getting people to realize that games are their own, unique medium of entertainment and their appeal can't be translated to a more passive form might be a useful step towards getting video games recognized as its own artform.

If one would make a super dark Zelda movie with a silent anti-hero Link and a Gandorf that ISN'T evil just because he feals like it, that could make a epic movie, as long as there ain't no navi.

I'd also like to se a movie of Leauge of Legends, way to much lore for the way the game plays. (it can't be focused on one character tho, that wouldn't work, one event would be much better, like a battle)

warhammer 40k (not just games, i know) could also make a good movie, tough what side would be the good one is questionable...

pretty much any game CAN be made into a good movie, sadly, most people dosn't know what good is... Legend of the Seeker is a great example of this (not a movie, but the series still suck)
and so is the Eragon movie, god, I can write better stuff then that in english and all, and i am F***ing swedish (i write great books in Swedish tho), Hell i can write better series then Legend of the Seeker in two hours (a season, that is)

Yes, i am ranting, yes i am insane, but hell, i am right!

Have you ever watched somebody play a video game? It's pretty boring. The fun come from actually playing it. To make it enjoyable as a film they'd have to change so much that it no longer accurately represents the game. I'm looking at you - the Hitman film.

I would have said mass effect, but it's already being done

I would have also said world of warcraft... but... there's news on that happening too.

However, I would like to add that if you do a movie, I generally think it shouldn't be done on the main story, but maybe as additional lore to the universe. That way it adds to the game as well as not re-doing the main plot, since the main plot will be squashed into feature length and people will be missing out on stuff. The events from the game doesn't have to be the plot of the movie, but can simply influence it.

Civilization.

I wanna see Genghis Khan peacefully trading for technology as Gandhi rains nukes across the world in a blood thirsty wave.

Can you say "trilogy" anyone?
if they (the corporate idiots) decide to do the Legend of Zelda Series, I sincerely HOPE they don't do Majora's Mask... that's not worth a movie...
