I think I've said this before but:
Anything in the Oddworld franchise; no-one seems to care about it any more so even if they screw it up, it won't matter and Oddworld are already kind of looking into films, I've heard that they've done a few adverts and have been outsourced by various companies for several projects.
Don't bother basing it on the games and their story lines, that is the road to ruin, just base it on the the planet that i'ts set on and draw your inspiration from there.
Please don't have any humans ending up there, that would ruin the entire point of the messages that Oddworld is trying to convey and completely destroy not only the subtext but also the verisimilitude.
Use canonical characters, non-canonical characters or even make up an entirely new species for the movie if you want; as long as it feels like Oddworld I.E.: has the same kind of humour and aesthetic, then go for it. People who aren't familiar with the franchise will see it as an entertaining movie about aliens with an interesting personality and people who are familiar with it will be more likely to get any references, wildlife, environments and/or characters you put into it.
Also, don't listen to the fans; we're idiots who don't know what we want.
