Games that should not have been forgotten.

Over the course of time, many a good game was wrought at the hands of developers. Many were good, most were ok, and some were horrific. Among the good games, however, there lies two categories. Those that lasted on the course of history, and those that didn't.

The Escapist as a whole remembers a lot of games and discusses them frequently (particularly those Valve made). What are great games that nobody ever talks about? If I had to say there was one series that is woefully underdiscussed, I would go with the Megaman Battle Network series. Yes, the plot was stale to the point of being formulaic, and yes, the sequels were stagnant and boring, but the game featured an extremely innovative combat system and great bosses. It's not even like it was unknown or anything, I know at least 5 kids my age in my town played it back when it was big. Did the series just suck and I didn't get the memo?

What games do you wish were talked about more?

XIII (the cel-shaded shooter, not the Final Fantasy game)

Why did that game have to end (and receive no sequel) seconds after the big reveal came?!

Sanitarium. A wonderful, dark, amazing point and click adventure that deserved so much more attention then it got.

Oh, and Septerra Core. I don't like JRPGs or Turn Based Combat.. But even I loved that game.

Wing Commander, Popolous, Ultima, Monkey Island, Lemmings.

I can't understand why there hasn't been new games in those amazing series, especially with Kickstarter existing now.

A properly done next-gen Ultima would be even better than Skyrim!

Future Cop:LAPD.

A third person game, published and developed by EA before they succumbed to the dark side, where you control a police force mech that can transform into a hovercar with 4 weapon types and plenty of weapon choices to use within them. Aside from the main singleplayer campaign, it also had a co-op campaign mode and a 2 player versus mode in which you built towers to defend your own base and built tanks and aircraft to reach the other player's. If a second player wasn't present there'd be a CPU controlled aircraft by the name of Sky Captain who would taunt and harass you instead.

I had so much fun playing that game. There were rumours of a sequel but it never came.

And now you shall point me towards the latest few HL/L4D/TF2/whatever by Valve topics from this month that aren't "What's up with Valve/HL?" because I keep missing them, it seems. I'd like to see and maybe participate in a HL discussion, but alas, nobody wants to point me in the right direction.

Other than that, some more Legacy of Kain would be good. Granted, the old fans probably don't have anything worth discussing, but I'll still be happy, since it would be a sign of new fans. And that's always nice. I'll also like some more PnP RPGs discussions. Pretty much anything, aside from alignment/morality[footnote]I'm absolutely sick of those. It takes just one "good" alignment thread to one wish they stopped...I've seen way more[/footnote]. And Might and Magic franchise stuff.

Yes it would be better than Skyrim. But it will never happen as long as Electronic Arts lives.

The last Lemmings game I saw was on PSP. Probably is on the PS Vita now as well.

And Wing Commander [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.355503-Wing-Commander-Saga-The-Darkest-Dawn-Launches#14122584] just recently got a ressurection, quite a nice one too.

I've said it a million times, but I'll say it again: Shattered Steel by Bioware. We need more good mech games, especially ones that focus on mech vs. alien combat!

Whenever I quit my copy of Shattered Steel, it shows that old-style full-page advert for the next game in the series. Of course Shattered Steel 2 was never made, like so many other promising games.

I don't know how that game stayed under my radar all these years. Sounds like it would have been my favorite as a kid too! Ill make sure to pick it up if I see it at one of the retro stores around town.

My favorite N64 game was Battlezone 64 until I discovered it for my PC for free...

Magic Carpet 2. An old 3d DOS game that was awesome. If it wasn't buggy as hell I'd consider it just as good as TF2.

Otogi series
Lost kingdoms series

But most importantly

The legacy of kain series
That is a travesty my good people.just like there are pieces of literature that are required to be read in order for one to be considered cultured, so should this beautiful, magnificent series which to this day, has gone unsurpassed in the quality of not only its narrative, but atmosphere and characters.

This game here.

This green rabbit kicked so much ass. Though I have only encountered like 2 other people who have ever played it.
