Dont laugh but I was playing Tomb Raider 3 Pacific Island around 3 am. Had been in the raptors cage and got quite scared allready, but picking up the keys off the T-rex nest and hear Mammas roar on my back just made me jump of the chair, unplug the PC and go back to bed trembling and with cold sweats.

Later by lunch time I went back and shot the hell out of the T-rex with the bazooka.

Super Mario 2 was truly a thing of nightmares xD

Though once you get used to how surreal it is it's actually quite fun.

Condemned 2 is easily the scariest, or at least atmospheric, game I've ever played. Followed by Dead Space

A flash game, a couple of years ago, I think it was called Darkness.

It's a really good game, actually, and I was really engrossed, so much that my face was pretty close to the screen. There's this one bit, where you wind back a cuckoo-clock, and, well, it scared the bijesus out of me.

I still get a little shock when I hear doorbells.

Jesus...nothing. Games aren't scary. They may have some shock value, but nightmare worthy (...or even turn a hallway light on when walking around when you wake up to take a piss)? No bloody way.

Playing a game, to me, is a different mind set than what you have during a movie. I can't understand when a person say's they were scared by a game.

Blood is the only game to have really terrified me, and most of it was due to the excellent sound.

I recall drunkenly playing Resident Evil 2 for the first time on a widescreen television, and that too was frightening, but never in a shit-your-pants sort of way. It was more atmospheric.

Doom 3 was scary too, but in a cheap sort of way.

Dead Space.

I haven't played it in a month because I know it'll just shit me up. I'm at the part after the medical station. I got past that part, thought "what the fuck", and turned it off... in a good way.
Yeah, the first time you play Dead Space it is shit scary. Especially playing it in the dark around midnight. That lift scene got me good.

Oblivion once scared the crap out of me because I wasn't paying attention and suddenly a zombie was right in the middle of my screen

Also the Ocarina of Time wallmasters in the forest temple, just seeing their shadows made me run screaming away.
