This. The original TR games were creepy as hell. I think it was the silences, and the loneliness, it just made it so creepy and atmospheric. And then you'd here the sounds of apes or mummies or a giant fucking bear in the next room or somewhere and you'd just be like, "ho-shit ho-shit ho-shit!!"

And then when the music did come on it was suddenly this loud, pounding orchestral stuff that just scared the shit outta you just as like a pack of wolves fucking ambushed you from all sides! Scary as hell.

The Myst games were always a little unnerving because of the loneliness and the increasingly obvious revelation that you're never going to leave. Even by the time we got to Myst IV, what few people turn up either run away or try to kill you if they're not already bat-guano bonkers.

Shadow of the Colossus. Those guys are creepy.

There was a vertical-scrolling shooter on Genesis I can never remember the name of. You play a little Red-Baron-esque bi-plane, and your first boss is a multi-legged tank that literally takes up the entire screen, and yet there I am in my little WWI clunker going 'pew-pew-pew' at this thing with the expectation of taking it down. It's like with the Colossi, the only coherent thought that comes to mind amidst the panic is, "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!"

Need for Speed: Paradise city. Once you knock the door of your car and realize that no one's inside, it makes the game seem like a ghost story. Seriously, the steering wheel turns but there's no one turning it.

And yes, I have yelled "baahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" when that happens.
Haven't we all? I got jumped by two Deathclaws as I exited Raven Rock, and I practically fell out of my chair. And I've played BioShock, F.E.A.R, STALKER, and Thief: Deadly Shadows. *shudders*

Has anyone ever played Zork: Nemesis?

It was developed a little earlier than Myst, but had the same style and a similar gameplay.
Now, there was this one location, a deserted tower in some antarctic wasteland. It functioned as a kind of morgue/hospital/laboratory, and there was this one room, where dead, severed heads were stored in jars. You could then take one head and connect it to a machine and it would suddenly open its eyes and talk to you!
And they were not animated. They actually used actors for all the NPCs so it looked disturbingly real.
I played that, when I was about 12 years old and it scared the shit out of me.

Well, if i think about it now, it just makes me think of Futurama, but back then...

I found Far Cry 2 to startle me at times. One moment you're walking around and looking at the beautiful african scenery, then BAM! Several bullets whizz through the air as you're nearly run over by a truck. Good times.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Metroid's always been good for feeling isolated, and the whole thing about having to stay near the lights made it pretty creepy and suspenseful.

In oblivion when ever you're woken up earlier by someone, or when an enemy sneaks up on you.

In Metroid Prime 3 when you first meet the metroids. [possible spoiler]

You have to deactivate the power supply after walking by at least 30 tanks of Metroids. Than they rush out and you can see them swarming on the other side of the glass walls, also when they grab onto you you can see their pinchers and your HUD turns to static. The music is scary too.

Chicken Run for the PS1. You were a chicken sneaking around the coops, and there were guard dogs patrolling, and if you got caught they'd chase after you and bark like crazy and you'd get a game over scene of the dog growling when they caught up to you.

I'd sit in the same place for minutes at a time, afraid to move because I was afraid of the dogs. Of course, I was nine or ten years old when I played that, so if I were to play it again now I'd probably just laugh at how crappy it is.

I dunno, even with all my awesome gear I always wound up jumping just a bit when I turned around to see a Deathclaw nomming on my ass. D: Or a ghoul for that matter. Didn't really surprise me when a super mutant to a sledge to me though. *shrug*

Doom 64! When your 8 years old and running around with huge Lazar guns fighting demons etc with nearly every wall covered with Pentagrams it starts to get a little creepy.

Batman: Arkham Asylum. Those Scarecrow segments...yeck...
They were supposed to be scary to show Batmans dark past. They are also one of the few parts of the game that kicked ass!

House of The Dead Overkill was meant to be a comedy, but that at times scared me.

Also, can I have Saints Row 2 for the Gary trailers?

Ever heard of Blinx: The Time Sweeper for the original Xbox?

The game mechanics were good and fun to play with, try it out if you haven't yet, yadda, yadda, yadda. /Recommendation Advice

Now i will show you another pic

Did you see that big green shit in the first pic? and the little green shits in the second? the game was littered with these monsters and when i first saw them they scared the piss outta me. Maybe it was because i wasn't used to the newfangled sparkly graphics of the (then new) Xbox, but i could barely play the game cuz i was scared one would pop out.

May i mind you that these monsters were so cartoony and kid-friendly that they would make themselves right at home in Sesame Street or Chowder (more likely the latter) and yet i was terrified of them.
