personally my top 5 would be this

Halo
prototype
Half Life
Bioshock
Gears of War

seriously they would be amazing, who wouldn't like to see a dude fighting a big daddie or seeing Alex running around flailing his black mesh around? or some Spartans mopping waves of elites up?

sooo anyway...what games do you think would make great films?

EDIT: Ok maybe i should say... what games could (if done really well) make a good movie =P so we avoid the none posts and the end thread posts =P
monkey island, and most of your suggestions have no stories in them.
That might not be such a bad thing because they generally deviate from the story anyway.

End Thread.
"Iraqis were behind the terrorist attacks, so no Iraqis should be allowed on planes"

Give it a chance why don't you?
I bet if a proper, good director took on a film based off a game, they could make it work.
My vote goes to Canis Canem Edit.
If it weren't as linear as the game, & was more about Jimmy & the nerds simply overcoming the jocks, then the townies, it could work.
Off-Topic: I don't want to get in a political debate here, but what you said is simply incorrect. More than half of the hijackers on Sep 11 2001 were born and raised in the country of Saudi Arabia. They were trained in Afghanistan for maybe a couple months, but they were still Saudi Arabian nationals, and Iraq had jack shit to do with them.

Anyway Dreamfall: The Longest Journey might make a good movie if done properly.

If they did "The Getaway" movie without fucking up the plot it would be the sickest movie of all time

As some people have said Halo and Bioshock are trying to be made into movies, but I thought that there was a Gears of War movie being made as well?

Anyway my ideas for good game movies: possibly the Assassin's Creed series, and
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I've given CoD4 some thought and I think it culd be a great movie, first, just drop the 4 from the title and make it Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Next instead of telling the story with the main characters being Soap and Sgt. Paul Jackson, make the main characters be Captain Price and a squad of marines. (Soap and Gaz would still be there and the squad would include Jackson and Griggs and whatever)
I haven't played Modern Warfare 2 yet, but I'm sure that it could be a movie, too.

Fallout and The Longest Journey.

You know it to be true.
Both fantastic choices...but I think I'd much rather see The Longest Journey made into a movie. It would be the single most epic thing ever created by man. EVEN GREATER THAN THE MASSAGE CHAIR. That is, providing they don't fuck it up, like they do all the time.

EDIT - Also, if done right, Jet Set Radio could be pretty cool.

That Mario Bros Movie with Bob Hoskins wasn't that bad, at least I remember it wasn't that bad, but then, I was only 6 when I watched it, and I'm easily entertained at that age. I even bought the VHS, but I lost it :/

After the recent ODST advert im convinced that with the right script and backing they can make an awesome Halo film.

Other notable mentions are God of War and Beyond Good and Evil.

You know if history has taught us anything, video game movies are either really, really bad (Examples: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108255/ and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111301/ ),Or so far removed from their source material that they are alien to the games that spawned them. (Example: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384537/ and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120804/ )

In my opinion, Resident Evil would have been a great movie if they had filed off the serial numbers and made it a generic Zombie Apocalypse film. Instead, I found myself fumbling through the plot based on my uncountable plays through original RE and asking "Who the fuck is Alice and where was she in the game?"

Filmmakers should start coming up with new ideas instead of having to continually ravage the corpse of what's already passed just to turn a quick buck.

End Thread.
Let me introduce everyone to the wonderful world of logical fallacies. For example:
A+B=C, C therefore B.

Just because there have been very few good video game based movies done to date (in fact I can only think of 2), doesn't mean it's impossible to make a good video game based movie.
My choices:
Metroid
Fallout
StarCraft
CnC: Red Alert (discounting Red Alert 3)

Granted all of these would have to be handled carefully to ensure successful medium transition.
What are the 2 movies based on games that you think are good? Honestly? I want to know, because I can honestly think of none.

Movies based on games are terrible. Always. Even the best ones can only hope to reach the level of mediocrity...

The first Mortal Kombat movie (the one with Christopher Lambert as Raiden) & the first Resident Evil movie. I thought the first Mortal Kombat movie was really very good, esp. considering they casted Christopher Lambert, my only complaint is that I would've liked his character to have had a larger role in the film.
And the first Resident Evil movie, I thought was pretty good, even by normal movie standards. Granted it I understand it wasn't an exact copy & paste of the games story, but if you were honestly expecting it to be then you were setting yourself up for disappointment; same for all video game based movies.

Cave Story (as a computer-animated thing, I think), if we can keep Tim Burton away from it.

Mortal Kombat
24%. I would say you are in the minority of people who say this is a quality film.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/resident_evil/

Resident Evil
34%. Better than Mortal Kombat but still not very good.

Now before you say that's all biased and that zombie movies and stuff are for a certain crowd....

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dawn_of_the_dead/

Dawn of the Dead REMAKE. A remake...
74%. Not too shabby.

Sorry, but I would die before I called Mortal Kombat a good movie. They might be fun, but they are trashy fun. They aren't good. Neither of those films hits 50% which you could say at least 1/2 of the people that reviewed thought it was okay, so they weren't even mediocre. They were bad.

Dragon Age. LotR, but with a dragon instead of a stupid eye and less gay hobbits.
Okay...

Let me get this straight...

You want to make a movie.
About a game.
That was based on a movie.
That was based on a book.

So we're going to start filming The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: The Game: The Movie.

I'd pay to see that train wreck.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I see you wanted to see Dragon Age made because it's like LotR...
RE-EDIT: I'd still pay to see that train wreck.
