I for one wouldn't mind seeing Parasite Eve as a movie, or at the very least PLEASE make a current-gen new game.
Well I was rather hard pressed to think of examples and I was trying to type that post in the middle of class while half listening to my boring instructor. I'll be honest with you, the only Die Hard movie I've seen is "Die Hard With a Vengeance" and so I haven't seen the original.IHaveNoCoolness said:No, it's quite obvious you don't think highly of movie critics, but that's fine.canadamus_prime said:*snip*
Before you write off the Academy Award and call them bullshit, I would like to snarkily point out that Return of The King won the Academy Award for best picture. I really don't think it's fair to call the Academy Awards bullshit when one of the movies you cited as being better than these movies (Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat) won the best picture award.
As far as your 3 (4) films at the end, The Terminator, Escape from New York/La and Die Hard, I can't believe you would compare The Terminator and Die Hard to the Escape movies. The Terminator and Die Hard are towering pinnacles of cinematography compared to the Escape from ... films.
Also, the Terminator and Die Hard are both 100 times better than Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat... As for the reason's why, lets look at the original Terminator and not the more recent and crummier sequels.
The Terminator, the original was is a pretty terrific and serviceable horror film, that actually has a pretty poignant commentary on the dangers of reliance on machines. The Terminator as played by Arnold as an unstopping, unrelenting killing machine that can't be bartered, bargained or reasoned with is pretty scary and amazing. That film was wildly successful and is considered a classic film and one that defined an entire genre for many years. Compare that to Mortal Kombat which is campy at best.

The Terminator. 100%.
Die Hard. This movie basically wrote the book on how to make a successful big budget action film. All the cliches come from this movie and it is pure genius. The premise and set-up make for a believable thrill ride, where you can't help but cheer for the scrappy underdog. Couple that with an amazingly and believably creepy role from Alan Rickman opposite to Bruce Willis' likeability as John McClane and enough twists and turns that this movie just never stops firing on all cylinders. This is a great film in that it sets up it's hero with problems and demons and then thrusts him into and extraordinary situation, and is amazingly believable and a lot of fun.

Die Hard. 94%.
I'm sorry, but I can't possibly believe that Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil can even hold a candle to these to films.
Granted, at this point we've gone off topic. The whole point of the thread was to discuss which video game would make an awesome movie. I don't think there is any hope of making one, and you clearly disagree. I don't accept mediocritry from films before I call them good. You can enjoy a bad movie just like you can enjoy eatting bad food. There's nothing wrong with that. You can enjoy bad things, but you just have to recognize that they are bad, and there is vastly superior stuff out there that might not be to your personal tastes but is clearly much better.
Sure, they could make an goofy movie based on Left 4 Dead, and it could be fun to watch as a distraction from our hectic and stress filled lives, but I'm willing to bet money, that the movie would just be a bad movie with little to no substance. In no instance would I ever refer to any movie about a game as being awesome at this point. Maybe one day I'll be surprised and they will make one, but in the mean time, I'm going to stand by the assertation that they are all terrible, because they are. They might be worthwhile distractions, but they're not going to be worth pointing at as the pinnacles of cinematography.
then perhaps you can enlighten me to this mystical creation?blindthrall said:Really funny you should mention that, because it is. The game is based off it. Good luck finding it though.renner-08 said:the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series might make an interesting movie...
You asked for it. It was filmed on location around Pripyat. The film was destroyed due to an editing mistake, although being Soviet Ukraine who knows, and they had to completely reshoot the movie. After the second time, pretty much the entire crew got radiation poisoning or cancer and bought it within a decade. The actual movie doesn't reference radiation as the cause of the zone for two reasons: the government was touchy about it, and the original book, Roadside Picnic, doesn't blame radiation for the zone's creation. The book, which I have read, isn't too hard to find online, takes place in Canada and the Zone is caused by alien visitation.renner-08 said:then perhaps you can enlighten me to this mystical creation?blindthrall said:Really funny you should mention that, because it is. As far as the plot of the movie, I've only read summaries. Apparently a Writer and a Professor talk the Stalker into escorting them into the zone so they can find the Monolith. Weird stuff happens, bricks are shat, and there's no consensus among people as to what actually happens in the movie. Check IMDB if you don't believe me. And Wikipedia has links to a translation of the book, which is a pretty good read.
It is very much a movie. The problem is it's a Ukrainian movie, and when was the last time you saw one of them.renner-08 said:so..... it's not really a movieblindthrall said:You asked for it. but a book is the next best thing (which i shall definitely try to find)
