It would be a risk.

Mass Effect could, quite easily and story wise could be condensed to a single film probably.

So far Dragon age could, but as like part of 3 or so 3 hour epics directed by Peter Jackson, but that would make it far to similar to Lord of the Rings.

Dj Hero: the movie. It's in 3D and you have to try catch the coloured tiles as they fly at you. And it will have an awesome soundtrack.
^_^ I want that!

I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to this. I like some movies. But games don't need to be movies, they're already games. Our society elevates the film industry to the top of media food-chain for reasons I will never quite understand and as a result, when the product of another medium gains a speck of popularity it's only a matter of time before some film studio picks it up and grants it the glorious priveledge of becoming a film. Usually a bad one. This has happened to comics, books, games, just about every medium for storytelling out there and it really needs to stop.

The main problem with film adaptions of stories from other mediums is that they are just that. Adaptions. Nothing new is done. They just retread the same ground in a new multi-billion dollar way expecting to make something better than the original because by god its a multi-billion dollar movie and the original wasn't.

But there is a solution: Creativity. People need to stop re-creating and just create. Instead of retreading that same old ground, create a continuation of the story or explore a different part of it that wasn't explored in the original. Final Fantasy: Advent Children did this and it's one of the few video game movies out there that doesn't make me want to put forks in my eyes.

With that in mind, the possibilities are endless. Just off the top of my head, how about an animated Brutal Legend movie expounding on one of the important events in the history of the land before the game. But then again, I'd sure as hell rather play it.

Besides my obvious choice I'd say Assassin's Creed, those live-action promos for ACII were awesome.
I'm hoping that BioShock will be a good movie when it comes out...

Left 4 Dead would make a killer movie. Especially if they do it like they did with the opening cutscene.
Woah woah woah woah woah.....woah.....woah, (says very fastly>) Their making a Bioshock movie

And the answer is...

...none.

Leave the video games in the consoles & PCs, and come up with something original to make into a movie.

Assassins Creed
Brutal Legend
Half-Life
Dead Space
Pong
Resistance
Bioshock
The Saboteur
Uncharted
Heavy Rain

theres so many that if done right would make truly awesome movies, but thats the problem, people dont know how to do them right so sadly, some really great movies wont be made
but regardless, about half of the games i listed actually are going to be made into films

Yes I agree, what we all really need right now is another fucking zombie movie.

OT I'm am tentatively hopeful a/b bioshock, I personally don't really see how it's going to be done but I have hope that some amidst the hundreds/thousands of people involved in making a big-budget movie have the vision I lack.

As for others, something set in warhammer 40k/starcraft universe would kick a fair amount of ass

Has no-one said what I am thinking? CoD4! Seriously, it's like playing a movie already. Bad Company would also work well, especially considering the movie-like plot (pretty much ripped directly from Kelly's Heroes), and the comedy present throughout the game.

Games cannot make good movies, the same as movies make terrible games.

However, if you take the basic universe of a game and create an original story from it then it can make a reasonable film. Just taking a game and taking out the interactivity, and then changing some of the plot elements to be more appropriate for the audience and medium does not make even a reasonable film. (Resident Evil producers take note)

Halo, should it ever go to film, should follow up on some of the ideas covered in the books. The Fall of Reach would be interesting because:

It covers the story of the chief and his fellow spartans growing up, culminating in the failed defence of Reach and the hyperspace jump that takes them to Halo in the first place

I say we make 3 or 4 movies to encompass the stories of the Final Fantasy games. I mean, Final Fantasy VII, assuming it's told over a good amount of films, would be amazing. And dang, I would LOVE to see a trilogy based on Final Fantasy VI. If they can tell the story so well with SNES technology, I'd kill to see them do it in film.

oddworld strangers wrath
yeah i know they all suck but i dont care this is a fantasy where people treated video game movies like normal movies, not just stamping a title on a peice of shit to get someone to see it. Also that wouldnt work with oddworld stangers wrath because it's not really really well known by your auntie and uncle.

Call of Duty would............. Wait I forgot it was based off of Band of Brothers and other war movies. DAMNIT! Resident evil seemed like a great concept but they f*cked it up in the long run. But that Resident evil Degeneration movie looks decent for a video game movie. I think I'll rent that if I can find it.

The thing about a lot of movies being made from games is that the medium does not translate. Games have to have enough story to stretch out along playtime that lasts longer than any reasonable length movie(or it should anyway). Also, I believe Yahtzee has commented to this effect as well as Movie Bob = Several games are basically just knockoffs of successful movies. Dead Space is a knockoff of Event Horizon, and Uncharted is Indiana Jones mixed with Tomb Raider. Does that sound like a good combination?
If we learned anything from previous attempts to take video games and make them movies, it's several points. In the 90's there was a race to cash in on arcade classics that had no real storyline. Trying to invent one produced utter shit. Current films came closer with games that actually had a plot. However, if you try to keep to the original story there's little room for creative license or expression, and if you try to venture into different territory without coy or cheesy references you end up alienating the core demographic that made the game popular in the first place.

On a different note, the only games which would make for good movies would be ones with original stories that have not been done to death in both games and movies. Enough grizzled space marines, enough adventurers looking for lost treasures, enough dangers of the unknown IN SPACE!!!
The only games that comes to mind that are doing at least a little something different are Bioshock, Assassin's Creed and Half-Life. Complaints about the games aside, each of these games change things up in terms of setting, story, and most importantly = characterization. I would actually like film-makers to do something with these materials, even if at the cost of integrity to the source. That way, I wouldn't already know what happens when I see it. Sorry for the rant.

(P.S. Doom and Hitman were unmitigated pieces of shit.)

Just so you guys know, in accordance with wikipedia, there is, in production, a BioShock, a Metal Gear Solid, and a Prince of Persia movie. As well as an animated Halo movie called Halo Legends.
