This might be of interest to you. Not exactly a true sandbox (virtually impossible for a video game that isn't a holodeck, lol), but there is no story, no quests and nothing to do but run, hide, find help and do whatever you can to survive for as long as you can.Zhukov said:The obvious one is a zombie apocalypse sandbox.
People have been begging for one for years. I would have thought some savvy developer would have stepped to supply the demand by now.
Notice that ARMA II: Something or Other hit the top of the Steam top sellers list when that Day-Z mod came into the limelight.
Project Zomboid is a Zombie Survival RPG. Here are some of its planned features:
Retro-isometric style with plenty of zombie insides thrown in for good measure.
A massive city and the surrounding areas to traverse, explore and loot.
Open-ended sandbox world - survival is your only goal, and we're sorry to tell you... you WILL die eventually.
Get infected. How will you spend your final days? Will you have a heroic moment of self-sacrifice, or end up chewing your best friend's throat out?
Meet other survivors who you can join forces with, trade with, undertake missions for, or fight with for resources.
Loot, salvage, and build what you need to survive the apocalypse, from food and medical supplies, to weapons, even just booze to help get you through the nights.
Advanced item crafting allows you to use looted items to build weapons, traps, defenses, and many other things to help you survive.
Character progression. Learn skills and perks to help your character face the challenges of survival.
Starvation, illness, loneliness, depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, insanity, trust issues. There's more to zombie survival than shooting zombie heads off.
Join your friends and survive the apocalypse together in co-op multiplayer.
The world changes the longer you survive; power plants fail, plunging the city into darkness and making batteries and tinned food prized commodities. The army rolls into the streets to perform 'clean up operations' and other gamechanging events occur the longer you survive.
Colosseum was just pokemon battles. Like a pokemon turn based version of street fighter. Pokemon XD put a lot of things in there that were definitely not pokemon as we knew it. And from what I've seen the battles in that game were just turn based street fighter, pokemon style as well.Quala said:sanquin said:I'm surprised Nintendo didn't make a 3d pokemon game yet. No, not the sub games of being a photographer or mystery dungeon or whatever. A game like the original ones, but in the same 3d most rpg's these days use. I mean, the technology is there. Skyrim and the like prove a game of that scale can be made, with stunning (stylistic/cartoony) graphics. I bet it would be wildly popular as well. Yet it hadn't been made yet.Weren't Colosseum [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Colosseum] and XD: Gale of Darkness [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_XD:_Gale_of_Darkness] on the Gamecube basically this? Or maybe I'm misreading something, but I remember them being 3D and on console while staying along the lines of the original handheld ones. Although, it has been years since I played them, and I don't remember much, so I might be mistaken.Andy Shandy said:I'm surprised Nintendo/Game Freak/HAL Laboratory haven't made a Pokemon game on the console in like the handheld games. It would make a metric fuckton of money.
OT: I second a sequel to Metal Arms and a new Timesplitters. Those games were too awesome to NOT get continued in some way.
A wii game did this actually. Although this mechanic did not appear till half way throuh the game, it did come out. Look through Yahtzee's videos. Also, Silent Hill's Wii Remake did a puzzle with lights.dessertmonkeyjk said:A Puzzle Platformer with the ability to go between physical and shadow form solving light and color puzzles.
Nobody thought of taking shadow puppets to this degree?
While that may seem so, let me tell you: Hell no.neoontime said:Umm ,am I detecting some PC Elitism. I'd hate to bate but he hasn't really asked for too much like the other post. Besides most games do feature an option for a gamepad so it's worth looking it up.
OT: I'm with Z of Na'vi for the next metal arms!

Survival elements are also thrown in games as an after thought, but I have never seen a game implement them properly. I would love a game where survival is the focus.
The why of that would be technological restriction. It would be expensive to do something like that. You're onto a complete winner as a concept, though.Sean Hollyman said:Battlefront 3, with massive scale battles..

Oh, sorry then. I didn't mean to sound like I was calling you out, just to point out your seeming hostility that centered around a pc basis. I guess I was wrong to call out that pc elitism crap and I sincerely apologize.sanquin said:While that may seem so, let me tell you: Hell no.neoontime said:Umm ,am I detecting some PC Elitism. I own both a pc and a ps3, and have owned a variety of other consoles in the past as well. Some games play better on the console. (fighters and racing games for example.) Some games play better on the pc (shooters and rts games for example) And some play equally well on both. (some rpg's and hack'n'slash for example) That being said, I will admit that my favourite platform is the pc, since it has more utility, can be upgraded, and I just...like mouse/keyboard over gamepad most of the time. I just wouldn't say one is fully superior over the other.
OH MY GOD! you've read my mind!Sean Hollyman said:Battlefront 3, with massive scale battles..

Didn't mean to sound hostile with my reply there. Was just trying to be clear about my stance on it.neoontime said:Oh, sorry then.
