Kaim from Lost Odyssey. They try to build him up as mysterious and brooding but then they completely throw this out the window and he starts crying in every other cutscene.
While I love Lost Odyssey and didn't dislike Kaim, this is so true. Plus, he has zero personality. It wouldn't have killed the writers to make him smile a little more or, God forbid, laugh at one of Jansen's jokes.

Yeah but it sucks we can't now. Let's drop the retard alien with an actual back story for the green quiet guy! 10 seconds of being invisible were better then a flash light.
The flashlight is only there so Master Chief doesn't get scared when he is in the dark.

Nathan Spencer from the new Bionic Commando. He used to be so cool! Why did you make him annoying and stupid?! I LIKED HIM!

(Also Super Joe was not a dick head before... he is now.)

The main guy in the Gothic series, 'cause he's just retarted. Also, I couldn't bring myself to play a guy in Mass Effect just because I hated the voice.

The Secret Apprentice in The Force unleashed.

I still felt kind of bad when he died, however.
I'm just mad they felt the need for the character in the first place. So, of course
he had to die,
or destroy continuity. Ugh.

Shion from episode III of Xenosaga. I tolerated her in the first two, but in the third she really crossed the line.

Lara Croft because she has all the personality of a sock puppet. You can try to give it emotions but it just isn't convincing at being human.

Zidane in Final Fantasy IX was the threshold for me. I wasn't big on Cloud and Squall from VII and VIII but they had qualities that redeemed them in my eyes. Zidane did not, and I blame him for being the first of the blond-haired douches with bad hair that are a bit on the short side.

Ayumi from X-Blades. Hopefully I don't need to explain that one.

The Prince from Prince of Persia circa 2008. All was well and good until you were forced to press x to screw yourself over.

I guess I need another male to round it out a bit. I'll just go with Sonic the Headchog in Smash Bros Brawl. 12 hours of gameplay and I get this blue piece of stool? Joy.

I don't think he actually hates most or any of them. It's just cool to hate and he was naming as many characters as he could think of. Heck, he didn't even know Squall's name, he just said "FFVIII cause whats his names a baby. Leon, Sion, or something like that," so I'm pretty sure he didn't even play it enough to form a reasonable opinion of the character. We all know how cool it is to hate JRPGs these days

Would you really say that the experience a white dude has playing CJ is similar to what a black dude has playing as, say , Gordon Freeman?
Yep, I would say that. Gordan Freeman didn't talk though so it's a bit tougher to discern but a picture is worth a thousand words. Especially if you're seeing that picture in almost every game you ever play.

Personally, I don't think its a matter of race as much as it is culture.
These two are pretty much inseperable. Especially in the perspective of how GTA works.

Nobody would say anything against Louis from L4D but CJ was a crim who hung around with twats and spoke with such a thick street dialect, I had to put the game on mute just so I would stop jumping him under cars.
"Its CJ, fooool! You remember dat!"
Oh SOME people did & would. Louis was a token he does not undermine the basic premise.
Right on, Gordon probably wasn't the best example to use but he was the whitest video game character I could think of, besides Kratos, who's voiced by a black dude, so that would be another crap example. Anyway, thats interesting none the less and may I ask your feelings towards CJ, do you find him a likable/ sympathetic/ relatable protagonist?

The new Prince of Persia, jesus christ. Partly because the writer is obviously trying so hard to make him endearing, but mostly because his "chemistry" with Elika is fucking horrible to listen too. I have never seen two love interests that were so completely forced before.

I liked Raiden, but I knew better than to assume he was whinging about his love life. No, guys, he wasn't. That was all Rose, who Raiden often had to remind of the mission before she shut up. Don't blame him for her shitty melodramatic writing.

And you weren't supposed to play Snake, the Legendary Hero Guy, in MGS2. You had to play Raiden and be belittled and left out of the loop and
even manipulated by said hero guy and his partner, the good guys,
before you could be awesome in the end.

Earth 2160. Which character? ALL OF THEM. Those writers should be shot, revived and shot again.
Space Siege. Well, not really hate, I just don't care about the guy I'm playing. Not really much of a character or personality there. Even the one-dimensional supporting cast is more interesting than Mr. "I'll think about it".
GTA: San Andreas. I hate the whole "gangsta" culture, and I hate every part of San Andreas that takes place in Los Santos. As soon as it goes outside the city, however, I really really love it.
Dawn of War. Well, not really hate, but even the GOOD guys regularly commit mass murder in the name of the Greater Good, and no-one except the T'au can really be called the "good guys" on a regular basis with a straight face. The human factions especially, bunch of genocidal twats. (I've never played as Chaos.)
